  1. Thanks dave, I will search the site. Sadly the RMS is now weeping so I won't get a new warrantee unless they fix that first
  2. Hi All, I would be grateful to hear opinions on this problem. My 2003 Carrera 2 ,3.6 has suffered an intermitant missfire for 18 months. workshop has replaced coil pack , maf ,and spent many hour of fiddling. They say they have fixed the problem each time but don't know how, then back comes the problem. The car has done 24,000 miles full OPC service history . I am now told that the problem is the two stage valve lifter mechinism that is sticking so engine out and a large bill  Symptoms are : runnining fine, give the car a good high rpm workout then come to a halt at a junction and it is missing on at least one cylinder. Sometimes after a good quick run home it starts and misses from startup. Always happens at idle and goes as rpm rises. Error code sometimes show multi missfire but nearly always just cylinder 6.Now the engine seem to have faultering pick up from low revs. Porsche technician friend says this is quite a common fault now particularly 996 mK 2. Does anyone out there know more about this and is it always a top end strip down or will something like a Forte oil treatment help ???If this is a mechanical failure then I guess I have no choice but if it is gums and varnishes built up them maybe there is another answer The warranty has now expired of course !!!! YOUR HELP AND ADVISE WOULD BE VERY WELCOME
