  1. Hello there...i was in the same exact position as you...Over the last years I changed many BMW M cars and after an amazing drift car, supercharger M Roadster,I changed team and bought a boxster S(04)...the car had amazing grip and quality...After a year I bought a 996 carrera2cabrio(02). Very nice car, different handling than the boxster (more difficult to drive it hard) and good power with PSE,reflashed ECU and KN 63-7000 kit...I was able to be faster than any NA M3 of my friends here...But I wanted more power...and more power...and better grip...and tons of torque...so the solution was 996TT...Just amazing...i will never forget the first time I drove it...I was speechless of the power, grip, handling, brakes and quiet level of the car...but the need of power is still here.after a month i reflashed the ECU and installed a BMC filter so to get close to 500hp...i wanted to be able to pass M6,M5,gallardo and ferrari430...But the need of power is still here so now I am trying to buy an exhaust and a set of bigger turbos in order to get at 580-600hp...The chassis is so great that handles the power with extreme ease...when cornering at high speeds I try to hold the wheel stable because I am moving out of the drivers seat...i ve never missed the cabrio...(friend bought it so at summer we may switch for a ride,he loves the TT)the only problem with the 996TT is that it does everything so good that there is no other car you will buy after...except maybe for the 997TT but who knows...

Skandalis447 . . Very good answer in that the TT's are top performers and essentially super cars . . I think the quest for more performance is not so much displeasure with the car's performance but rather simply a hobby . . I am fairly certain that if I move my 996 and pick up a 996TT . . I will not be wanting a Lambo or anything "visually" that loud. Plus I really like Porsche and their designs, so I really do not think I would jump ship from a TT.

Also I gather from the posts on this thread that moving from a 911 and then to a 911TT is more of a progression.

    Thanks for the posts.

    Cheers

  2. I currently own a guards red 2002 996. . Immaculate . . But I have started to look at 996 twin turbos. Saturday at lunch my wife said . . what are you after?

Once you get the Turbo, then you will want a Lambo and then who knows . . Having drivin the Turbo, there is an added excitement factor and a raw power vibe that you can not get with the stock 996 . . However I have a hard time even opening up my standard 996

I guess my question is, even with 911 Turbos I see people wanting to get somewhere around the 500hp range . . are most of the people that own Turbos with slight modifications Happy ? or are they looking for 600hp . . etc . . ?

    Any thoughts would be helpful.

    Cheers

  3. I have a 2002 911 and when I purchased the car it looked brand new except for the exhaust tips . . After doing some research my options were to purchase replacements . . or polish . . Replacements were around $250 to $600 . . and friend of mine in metal fab told me to get them "professionally" polished . . To make a long story short, I went for the polishing option. A $125 later my exhaust tips look like they were chrome dipped but of course they are polished SST and OEM at that . . . .

They even polished the large connecting bolt that attaches from the underside . . I am very happy with them now . . Also . . when they get dirty the wipe clean . .

    Cheers

  4. Really like BlueLine's Mod . . but was wondering about pilling air from around the PVC pipe since it is not sealed?? I like the idea of sealing with a rubber gasket and was wondering if anyone did Blueline's mod but with a gasket to seal the connection?

Edit: I have been thinking about this and you would need some form of a threaded coupling so you could compress the rubber gasket . .right ?

    Cheers

  5. I had purchased and installed one of the Red Schnell Air Intake hoses that come with the plastic "intake muffler or silencer" plug & cap. I liked air intake sound that resulted but thought the red hose looked kind of cheap. Not liking the way the Schnell main hose looked I changed back to the OEM Air Intake Black Rubber Hose.

I was wondering, has anyone ever used the OEM air inlet hose but used the plastic plug to block the noice silencer cavity from inside the cavity itself ??

I guess the only possibly risk would be that the plug could come loose and move towards the main intake.

    Any thoughts ?

  6. yes. I pay $2400 upfront and they credit me that amount upon satisfactory return of the core.

Have you heard anything from Porsche NA. . I can't believe this stuff they should cover it, what a joke.

Sorry but we are loyal Porsche people . . . and I expect more from them, they do of us and we all stepped up and paid the asking price.

If you do not get them to participate at 75% or above I would consult a lemon law attorney.

    Sorry to hear this.

    Good luck

  7. The RMS is really not going to kill the car except under very unusual circumstances. The IMS failure, the coolant intermix on the oil cooler, the cylinder sleeves slipping, or a valve spring failure are the costly ones, kind of in that order. Do not let the RMS keep you from enjoying the car. Also, while they are in there, you might want to get them to update the case bolts and the bolts on the IMS, assuming that they don't have sense enough to do it on their own.

Hey Viper501, talked with Walnut Creek Porsche ( Service Mgr: Eric Shaffer- really nice guy) they said that they will also update the case bolts to that of a 997 . . He said they do that on all RMS replacements . . What specifically is the IMS ?

    Thanks,

    Chuck

  8. Just picked up a 2002 911 w/20K miles, (still under warranty) and during my first oil change today they found a leaky rear main seal !!

The guys at the shop (private porsche shop Dublin Ca ) said sometimes Porsche will not cover a RMS leak if they do not classify it as a true "dripping" leak.

Is this true . . does anyone have any advice for me when I take the car to Porsche ? Which is better for this kind of thing Porsche Fremont or Walnut Creek?

    Thanks,

    Chuck

    :o

I would take to Stead Porsche in Walnut Creek and speak to the service manager, Eric Shaffer. I have been having my cars serviced there for almost 20 years.

Thanks mffarrell, Stead is the closest, I will give Eric Shaffer a call today. Thanks again

  9. From what I've seen, Porsche is replacing seals if they are even sweating. I'd take it to the dealer and get them to deal with it while it is still under warranty. From what I've read, the 'new' seal is apparently working well. Also, the dealer is motivated to do the work considering Porsche is footing the bill.

Thanks Vipor501, I guess these guys at the porsche shop are being little over dramatic. My god on a $100K car (new) that develops ans engine case leak bad enough to coat most of lower engine, you would think it would be a no brainer???? It was a real drag seeing that nice sports car underside covered in grease . .

I love the car, and plan on doing the cool guy gray epoxy garage etc . . having a puddle of oil under your German sports car blows the vibe.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Cheers

  11. Good Afternoon My Brothers,

Just going through my recently purchased 02 911 and all looks really good except for the stock exhasut tips. Currently my exhaust tips are rather dull and in need of some work. I know you can buy new custom chrome ones for $300-$600 but was wondering if there would be a problem dropping them off at my local chrome platting company ?

Also will I be able to re-use my clamps or should I plan on purchasing new ones?

    Thanks

  12. Just took delivery of my 02 Red 911 . .love it! Wow, extremmmly fun to drive.

Question: I have been known to were Designer Jeans (True Religions) now and then that have substancial silver buttons on the back pockets. I am concerned that I will eventually scratch or put a hole in my leather seat.

Can anyone recommend a decent looking seat cover ? Not interested in the sheep look . .

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks

I use seat covers from Tweeks. They are neoprene-like (probably not real neoprene) and extremely durable. My interior is all black so I have all-black seat covers and they look pretty nice. The bottom piece is not very easy to install, but it stays in place pretty well once you get everything hooked up. I bought them because I would always take my car to work out and getting back into leather seats after a workout was not good.

This link might work for you: http://www.tweeks.com/shop?frame=5.90.4268

They are about $50 for a set of two.

John, thanks my brother . . This is exactly what I was talking about and looking for. . and the price is excellent. Never thought about the post workout thing but you are right I would not want to get in my 996 all sweaty either . . Guys I know the question sounded shallow . . but my friend ripped the H@ll out the back of his seat with a button . . Thanks again.
