  1. dont listen to everything your delaer tells you... you can still buy any kit for PCM3.0 in any country and have an indipendent dealer with PIWIS put in a code to activate it. I have installed voice control, IPOD kit, BT, Camera into my PCM 3.0 without paying anything to Porsche for the codes. BTW, Porsche is not concerned about trade in stolen parts but missing on profit with people buyinp parts based how cheap local currency is. Go and ask your dealer if it will be possible to bring Porsche from USA to Europe and certify it. He/she will tell you that it is nearly impossible, would require $$$ of upgrades, would not be supported by Porsche, will have no warranty, etc etc. All that is 100% BS.
  2. pull two cables out of connector put end to end and fix with tape. as long a light shines at the end of another you can try before you buy a permanent solution. Please dont fall for optical connectors with gold plating (i had a salesperson trying to explain its advantages once...)
  3. off-top at 19k miles you repalced all that in order to sleep better? dont think you can do that. think of radiators, break pads, sensors, old navi maps, cup holder wear-out, protective bra, glass-spray coating, leather treatment, belt, all filters :) JR, will wait for the article
  4. strange, i had three different models of BB over the last 3 years (including 9800 now) all work with PCM 3 without any problems and without any setup from PIWIS. be it as it may. as an fyi Porsche released a software update for the PCM 3.0 (for the new 2009 Carrera, Cayenne, Boxster, & Cayman models). The update will fix a few common "bugs" that have been found in the new system. Most of the fixes are only relevant if you have factory add-on modules, such as XM, Bluetooth, Navigation, or the iPod/Interface kit. Updates PCM 3.0 from V1.10 to V1.4 Here are the current "bugs" which are addressed: "INFO" and "MAP" buttons do not function if "INFO" or "MAP" is used to leave an open route list. Incorrect display of remaining range when in "miles". FM audio is muted until source is changed to AM. When a saved preset station is selected, the wrong station is displayed. In "ASIA" coding, RDS does not function. Intermittent loss of XM radio. Display does not match with the selected source. iPhone: Audio playback does not restart after phone call. USB device not available until system restart. Only USA: Maps set to European styling (wrong highway colors, POI icons, etc.) Temporary disappearance of TMC (traffic) messages during a drive cycle. For Voice Control, the "closest gas stations" command results in a list of the closest hotels. Bluetooth disconnection with Nokia mobile phones. The first activation of any function of the steering column switches (i.e. turn signal) ends a current telephone call. The opposite party cannot be heard in the vehicle if a phone call is made immediately after system start-up. Pairing or connection with a mobile phone via Bluetooth is no longer possible, although it had previously functioned.
  5. if you can connect other phones and they work then you have to ask your dealer to check your version of firmware on PCM (i believe v1.4 is the latest). the early verision had some issues with phone connections and there was at least one upgrade since they came out in 2008. there is no other BT menu in PIWIS. the only PIWIS option is to active BT option by entering a code
  6. Your VIN shows no Bluetooth installed on your car to start with. Did you have any other phones working with BT on that car before? My guess is not but I could be wrong. In that case you have to pay money to Porsche to get a code for that and then enter it in PIWIS. there is TSB on this site about adding BT to PCM 3.0.
  7. you building a monster truck? i can understand thick profile tires on 18-19'' but putting something in excess of 22'' is not going to help with off-road capabilities. as is it has 270mm ground clearance which is higher than escalade if I remember correctly
  8. if you have a light sensor (middle of dashboard under windshield screen) then you dont need anything else
  9. i have done it on my CayenneTurbo 2009. on Turbo it only needed OEM auto dimmable mirror which I got on ebay for like 100usd it then plugs into 12DC and one wire into overhead controller (under the glass holder). On a non turbo you need to install rain and light sensor which will be a pain and waste of time. easier to get aftermarket dimmable mirror.
  10. Piwis clone (and not Durametric cable sold as "piwis") will work the same way as regular PIWIS. Updates are not that critical. But check on Digital Kaos there is a discussion about Chinese PIWIS
  11. why not buy a used cluster on e-bay for $200-300 and swap it? (your miles reading will be different but you can always provide DME readout if anyone questions). opening cluster is easy, no different to a radio. takes under 1 hour to get cluster out of dashboard
  12. 2009 and 2008 are different cases. PCM3.0 on 2009 has to be recoded with a code from Porsche and NAV reinstalled (there is no DVD there, it is Hard Drive based system). Porsche now either refuses to give a code or charges silly prices. I got mine done for Euro800 but that one was one first cars. things got worse since then. It doesnt require new PCM and you can tell your dealer that at at best he doesnt know what he is talking about.
  13. i can agree with you on 996 and Cayenne. frustrating part is not that they break but the fact that many of these serious errors are known to the manufacturer and they have done nothing about it... I remember a similar company that was an unquestionable leader in its space but too arrogant to listen to anyone around - Nokia. Anyone has their phone nowadays?
  14. when you went for a drive did you have a valve open to get rid of air you have intrduced?
  15. If it has KTS tester it is not based on Durametrics. Frying DME also sounds like an urban legend considering the fact it uses the same Bosch hardware as the original PIWIS
  16. as an FYI tophillipj there is no such thing as buy Warranty in Europe and unlike the US manufacturers warranty is only 2 years not 4. I tried to buy extended warranty on Cayenne for my 3rd year and it took dealer a month to find out how it coud be done. One year warranty was then offered at Euro 2000 plus I had to book an appointment 2 months in advance to have car checked before warranty could be extended (obviously pay extra for checks with no guarantee warranty will be extended)...and no, there arent better dealers. the other two I went to could not even understant what I was talking about. to people like dryslick13 I can tell that my cayenne with scorred cilinders had 4 oil changes by the time it got to 20k miles, it was not tracked, it was driven at low RPM for first 3k miles. maybe one can explain how lack of maiantance contributed to cracked coolant pipes and bad pump? or cracked pressure plate in 996 clutch? or all electrical gremlins on both 996 and cayenne?
  17. strange how my previous post just disappeared so here it is again. Mikez, did you know that you are not allowed to bring up bad engineering/quality/customer services but only allowed to adore your Porsche and keep telling everyone it is the best car ever built? this is a joke of coures. This car is a Gillette razor where once you bought relatively inexpensive (compare to Ferrary or Lambos) handle you have to fork out fortune on blades (parts and service). Whatever people claim Porsche is learning I seriously doubt since I have a third modification of Cayenne in addition to 996 and it has scored cilinder walls at 20k miles (never tracked, properly serviced etc). This is on top of almost CHF4000 repair bill for cracked coolant pipes, pump, compressor which was after 12 months of driving... 996 had its share of problems too and eraly on and no interest from Porche to do anything about it. How many of you replaced transmitters on keys? Yes it is tiny item but it is $1000 of extra in 10 year life of car (each of mine stop working after 2 years and after that it is Euro120+ PIWIS). Do they learn? Why bother.
  18. waiting for DOT to change is not a solution as we all know. Headlights, rear turn signals, side blinkers (on 2007 car it is controlled by PIWIS) are different under DOT and Euro standards that I am 100% sure as I imported my car to Europe from the US. Emission is unlikely to be an issue. Tax may depend on a state but not on a make of a car. Internet is your source. Booking a container is easy (being in Dubai this must be like sending DHL :).
  19. DIY. most cars go the other way around (out of USA) that is why most companies dont care. You may look at US prices and decide if it is worth the hassle of tax/conversion/shiping. Maybe you save 1-2k USD by bringing your car over is it worth the trouble?
  20. Get your dealer to do a compression test. if difference between cylinders more than 1.5bar dont buy.
  21. I have c4s and at only 80mph went spinning on highway in a rain after hitting a tiny puddle. I could be a really bad driver but those wide tires dont hold rain or snow on speed. Winter tires on the other hand make huge difference but I am sure you know that. (check on c4s you may need to buy new rear disks for winter)
