  1. That was it! I put new drop links in the front and it went away. Now for the back and a suspension changeover...M030 perhaps.
  2. I am trying to chase down some front end rattling but I cannot pinpoint where it is coming from. I know that my control arms are creaking and they are due to be replaced soon, but this noise doesn't seem to coincide with it, plus I can only notice this 'rattle' at lower speeds and sounds like something is loose. My first thought was the upper strut brace, but I checked and although it was loose it was not the source of the problem (yet it did seem quieter). I had just enough time this morning to pull the left wheel and check for anything loose and it was still good. Maybe it is the front hood and the reason I don't get the noise when I am moving along is from the air down force? Thanks Chris
  3. I know this is an old topic but I see Maxspeed still sells this model. Does anyone else have it and can comment? I was thinking of giving it a try. Thanks Chris
  4. The EVO is pretty decent and has a decent shroud so that only outside air is taken in. The last thing you want to do is get one that doesn't properly block taking air in from the engine compartment. It will come with a metal tube that the MAF goes into and a plug to remove the intake muffler, which will add to the sound. I've not had any MAF fouling either. Chris
  5. I take mine on long trips and it is quite comfortable to be in for several hours. Last June I went from CT to NC for the Porsche Parade in one shot. Next month I am going down to VA right near Skyline Drive from CT. You should be fine. Chris
  6. Welcome to the Porsche world! I'll chime in again and say join your local PCA when you get your car. Great people and always lots of fun things to do. My only warning is don't get frightened off by all the 'my engine blew up' posts. In any forum typically see all the bad stuff and very little good stuff. I have a 99 2.5L that is almost a daily driver, is well maintained, slightly modded, and she doesn't give me a lick of trouble. I'm a firm believer that these cars like to driven and more problem occur when they sit. That being said if you do run into trouble there is a ton of knowledge here. One minor tip (I didn't thoroughly read all the posts so sorry if this was mentioned) is to clean out the leaves and other gunk from the radiators. You'll be amazed how much material can build up, especially in between the radiator and AC condenser. This will require the removal of the front bumper, but well worth the time. Pedro's Garage I believe has a DIY on it. If you don't eventually that gunk can eat into a radiator and cause a leak. Cheers! Chris
  7. That is actually pretty cool! I was already planning on getting a C4S in a few years (after I build a garage) and that just helped seal the deal. Chris
  8. djmads41 is correct. Years ago I had a Buick and learned a lot about automatic transmissions. Torque converters work off of hydrolic fluid with one set of blades pushing the fluid that moves the other set. At certain points (only one on my old Buick) a direct connection is made. The surge you see in the RPM is when that connection turns off. If it didn't you would stall out at a stop sign because when it's like having a clutch. Chris
  9. Hi All, I have been getting some interest on the other Boxster forum about a mini tour I am putting together. I have put major details together yet but I have been picking out roads to take. I would like to know is anyone else here is interested. Thanks! Chris
  10. I painted the bumperettes and it does look much better now. She's staying on! Chris
  11. I already have Maxspeed headers and the EVO intake installed. The sound right now is awesome and there is a definite improvement in the butt-dyno. The Danks is supposed to have the same sound as the PSE without any of the controls. Chris
  12. Thanks Bob, that helped. I figure if I have to try this hard to convince myself that it looks good to me then I really don't like it. Mind you I didn't know when I got it that the pipes would interfere with putting diffusers on there. I am going to sell this one and put the new Dansk on it instead. Chris
  13. A friend of mine I was discussing this with photoshopped the pipes to a darker color. Here is what it would look like. I think this may be the solution to balance the look.
  14. I have a Maxspeed one that was on there before but I got a good deal on this PSE so I went with it - much better on the resonance. However, I was never able to experience it with the top down. I was in the middle of selling the Maxspeed but now I may put it back and get diffusers instead which I really like the looks of. The other thought I had was to get hi temp paint and put that on the pipes.
  15. I have had the PSE (bought used) on my box for a little over a month now. I still haven't made up my mind if I really like the bypass pipes that it has. Do you like/dislike? Thanks Chris
  16. This was Maxspeed's first muffler and was more expensive than the new one. I had the new one until I got a used PSE. The new one has resonance and I think I would have liked this other one better. However, Maxspeed has a new one in development and should be out soon. Chris
  17. Hello all, As I pull out parts for mods/replacements, I had tried to remove the air box this weekend and was unable to get it out. Is there a special trick to it? This all started when I needed to remove the MAF and the screws were so rusted that one snapped inside and I had to hack it apart. I was thinking about installing a cold air intake instead so how the heck do you get the old one out? Thanks, Chris 1999 Boxster 2.5L 58k Miles
  18. Those are for hood emblems. I need the wheel crest that goes to the center wheel cap. I found all those you mentioned already. Thanks though! Chris
  19. I've been looking on eBay but have never seen one of these. :(
  20. I had one of my crests fall off somewhere and I found a replacement in the uk. I cannot locate any as of yet in the USA so before I spend the extra $ to have one shipped does anyone know where I can get one of these? I attached a pic of it below. Thanks! Chris
  21. Hi all, Someone is selling this part 996 653 101 10 FFA and I need to know if that will replace my climate control (some LCD's have gone out). Mine is a 1999 and I haven't pulled the unit to see what # it has. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Chris
  22. Update: Mine turned out not to be the RMS and just a little out of the crankcase. My Porsche mechanic mentioned an update kit but said it was so slight that unless I was everly concerned that it really didn't need to be done. In fact, it was dry yesterday as well. I will just keep the usual eye on oil level and such. Thanks all Chris
  23. Mine looks similar too. I am going to have the dealer take a look tomorrow in any event. Thanks Chris
  24. I have the exact same thing. A few drops of oil on a 99 with 49k on it. I just got the car (first Porsche) and all the talk of RMS has me nervous. Chris
