Kevin......I think you are probably right........ :unsure: After sitting all winter the noise is worse. I bought a brand new set of 19" wheels and tires and the noise seemed a little less for about 5 miles......then I accelerated hard through 2nd gear. The noise was the worst ever. Tommorrow I am dropping the car off at my region's tech representative's shop to have both rear wheel bearings replaced (at 1/2 the price quoted by a dealer). He explained that it is dificult to discern side-to-side noise due to the bearing loads and camber here. I will report back this weekend.....weather permitting. Thanks, John

I am seriously considering purchasing the BAS top made in Great Britain. It costs more than a GAHH or a Robins. Any comments?

Brad....Those are exactly the style (Carrera S) 19's that I want to put on my '01 Boxter S. Can I use Carrera take-offs or replicas? What rear width and what offsets will work with or without spacers? Is that red car lowered? Thanks, John

.........a great deal......but you cannot use those tires.....they are too tall. Before they are worn, try to get a tire store to swap you for the correct Boxter sizes that Sputter recommended (F-225/40 R-265-35).......keep the rims.

I would recommend buying tires and wheels for the winter, then its a simple matter to swap them over. Remember......You are only using (wearing) one set of tires at a time so you do get your money's worth! Try www.tirerack.com for great service......I have used them for 20 years. Top shelf. I don't drive my Boxter S in the winter but I have been using winter tires on my daily driver since 1990. Started with Pirelli winter S2's, then several types of Blizzaks and now Dunlop Graspics. Just swapped them on again last week (Ohio). After 3 seasons they still look like new (8/32 in the center of the tread and 10/32 on the edges.....no cupping whatsoever. Smoooooooth...... Anyone who hasn't tried these is in for a revelation. If the snow is less than 8" deep, I would rather take my front drive Grand Prix with the winter tires than my Duramax Diesel 4x4! When I get on I-75 and it is a black mirror............there is nothing better.

It's the tires.......Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position.....NO wear issues. When I first replaced them it was quiet for the first few hundred miles........and you don't hear it if it's warm and the top is down. Cold fall weather......top up......radio off......first 20 miles driven - very noticable. I'm a certified GM and Toyota service manager........I know how to diagnose a bad wheel bearing........That's not what it is. Original tires (taken off at 8300 miles (because they were 6 years old) also looked PERFECT but would drive you out of the car with top-up noise.....again, much worse when cold.

I have a 2001 Boxter S and am considering buying an '09....but Boxter or Cayman? When I have the top up on my Boxter......even with new tires (good ones).....I have a degree of tire noise. Is the Cayman going to be quiet or am I going to have rear tire noise all of the time?

I am anxiously awaiting the outcome......and the report on the GAHH top as I still haven't finished waffling between the GAHH, Robbins and B.A.S. tops. Anybody here used a B.A.S.?

Doug Robbins responded that they have been selling lots of tops with no issues. I would still like to hear owners actual experiences with Robbins and GAHH. There must be someone out there!

Updated Information: Well, since I have heard from No One .(and I can't believe it!).......I have emailed Robbins (no response yet) and BAS. BAS sent me the following info which I had never seen before stating that they are using an exclusive "factory style" glass encapsulating method that eliminates the glass/top fabric seperation problem. This, combined with the look of the BAS tops pictured in this thread have sold me on their product. However, it is more expensive ($1250.00 + frt) and I can't find any U.S. source other than their one dedicated supplier on the extreme upper left coast.......plus I can't seem to get a freight cost out of them (yet). At least my 944's and 951 had three jack points under each side........one in the middle of the door sill so that you could pickup the whole side from the middle and put the stands under the front and rear pads at the same time. Too bad these aren't made that way. My question is.......if I just want to get the tires off (or off the floor) for winter storage; is it bad for the shocks to hang fully extended for 6 months?

Update wanted on BAS, GAHH and Robbins glass window tops. Since the glass window tops have been out for a couple of years I would like to hear about any problems or praises since I want desperately to get mine done this winter (even though my OEM top and window are perfect). I have found an approved installer nearby and I think I like the look of the BAS version the best.......but would consider the GAHH or Robbins as well. I just want to buy one that doesn't have any glass seperation issues (and I have't seen any mention of that on the BAS version). Are these glass issues a thing of the past ater all this time or are they still problematic? Does anybody in the US have a BAS top? Can they be bought here? Please comment if you have had a glass window conversion top on your car for over a year or more. Thanks! John

After much suspicion, I have verified that the speedometer on my 2001 Boxter S (12,000 miles) is reading consistantly 4 mph faster than the actual speed of the vehicle (stock wheels and tire sizes). Are there any programming changes or calibration updates that can correct this? Does anyone else have this concern?

I thought that I read somewhere that the warning light issues mentioned earlier were only to do with the newer (987) cars. My 2001 S has never had a problem. What models were being referred to?
