  1. OK ... I checked the fuses and they look good. I checked B2, D9 and E1. They were/are all the ones that seem to have any relationship with the radio. What i'm seeing is the radio works perfectly, the CD cartridge goes in and comes out normally but no CD actually loads. I can't remember if a disk loads automatically or if it waits for the radio to tell it to load. Either way, no CD loads. When you select CD on the radio, it shows "loading" on the screen but the changer does not seem to respond.

    Does anyone have any other recommendations?

  2. I would start with the CD player fuse and also see if it will release and and re-insert the cassette.

    I will go look for the fuse. I have removed and re-inserted the casette several times and it seems normal. I can't rememember if it immediately loads a CD after the cassette goes in or waits till I select one. Right now, if does not appear that a CD loads into the player immediately following the cassette being inserted. I will track down the fuse.

  3. I have a 99 996 Cab with the standard radio with a 6 disk cd changer. It's worked great until the other day. Coincidentally, I just changed my battery although I would not expect that to have any impact. The issue (recognized after the battery change) is that when I change to CD mode, the display just says "Loading". No CD appears to ever load and definitely does not play.

    Does anyone have suggestions or things that I should check / try to verify if there is a problem?

    I would appreciate any pointers or things that I can check and return with more info.

    I have a Becker radio decoder. 4 and 5 digit. It was given to me by people on a UK message board.

    Thing is, is does not get the correct code all the time.

    The code is based on the serial number. Math.

    If Loren is not looking, I will send it to someone who can make it work 100% of the time.

    Like someone is going to steal a Becker radio....

    If your radio serial number ends in 1442 then the junk decoder says the unlock code is 4850.

  5. I just had a problem with my 1999 996 Cab top. The rear window began to delaminate from the canvas top. It looks like it was glued or welded together originally. The window is now sagging and it obviously looks very bad. I attached some pics.

    My questions are:

    1) Has anyone had this happen and what did you do?

    2) Can anyone you all know repair this? (CA central valley or bay area)

    3) What type of cost should I expect to repair this?

    Would you mind taking a pic of what your seal looks like today? Also ... maybe a few pics of the change out? I think that I may need to change mine also? I'm curious how long it takes you. Also, I think I checked on the part before. It's fairly expensive ... ~$175.

  7. I was finally able to find the seals that I needed. :) :) :) :)

    I have to say a big THANK YOU to George @ AKKURAT in Menlo Park.

    After talking with Porsche, then Race Technoligies (Bremo Rep) and finally George @ AKKURAT I was able to get everything back together and the newly painted calipers look great!!!

    First, I strongly recommend that you don't repeat what I did and attempt to re-build your stock calipers. If for some reason you do... call George @ http://www.akkuratpgi.com/main.php before you start and make sure that you get the parts.

    If anyone can help me with this, I really need it.

    I have a 99' 996 and just had the calipers powder coated. In the process, I removed the pistons and inner seals. I no longer have them.

    I didn't think this was a big deal because I had teh "Re-build Kit's" coming in the mail from Sunset Porsche.

    It apparently is a BID DEAL ... because the rebuild kits are only the outer dust covers. They don't include the inner seals.

    The parts I have are:

    951-352-917-00

    951-352-917-01

    951-351-917-00

    951-351-917-01

    Again, these are only the outer (dust cover) seals.

    I have also called Suncoast Porsche in Florida and they referred me to Racetechnoligies.com (Brembo rep). They said they didn't have them because they were an OEM part (different size pistons).

    If anyone knows where I can get the inner seals please let me know...

  9. Anyone out there got any advise on this subject???

    My main concerns are how to remove the pistons and what to replace after I remove them? I believe that I can use air pressure to force the pistons out of the caliper. I also think that I should replace the seals.

    I have not had this stuff apart before. Is air o.k. to push the pistons out? Should I replace the seals when I re-assemble? Are there any other parts behind the pistons (springs?)

    Where can I get the seals and does anyone have part numbers?

    I've got my calipers off (pads out) and am ready to have them powder coated. It sounds like I need to pull some seals out before they are painted??

    Can anyone give me advise on how to do final prep (prior to powder coating) of the calipers?? I definitely don't want to have to replace parts prior to re-installing.

    Also, I have heard several comments about replacing the caliper bolts. What is the "common practice" if there is one.

  12. I have a 99 C2 Cab with Tip and Traction Control.

    I wanted to see if anyone could explain how the traction control system works? I have had several instances on wet roads where the back end of the car broke free and I didn't really feel like anything "kicked in" to help correct the issue. This happened at slow speeds (like turing a corner and accelerating) and also under medium/hard acceleration at about 60mph (on a straight road that was pretty slick).

    I'm just wondering what I should expect out of the system under different condition (i.e. wet roads)

  13. I have noticed sometimes in Manual mode (only),  I notice when rolling to a stop and shifting from 2nd to 1st I get a Jerk or shudder going in to the lowest gear. The normal method when starting in manual mode, the transmission automatically go's into 1st gear all other subsiquent stops the transmission downs shifts to 2nd when rolling to stop's. Sort of off topic but relivent to tiptronic.

    I get exactly the same with mine. I try to always come to a stop before downshifting manually to 1st.

  14. Has anyone tied in the alarm to the horn or some other audible way to know the system is engaged / dis-engaged?

    I have a 99 996 and the only way to know the alarm is on is to pull the door handle or see the lights flicker. Seems like no big deal until you push the button when you are walking away on a bright, sunny day.

    It would be nice to have an audible.
