  1. Recently I bought a replacement top for my and decided to try to replace the top myself.

The car has been setting for 3 months in the garage, so i went out and backed it out into the sun to start the fun...

Well when i hit the button to open the top I noticed that the clam shell is not opening on the pass. side of the car. The drivers side is coming up fine. I pulled off the little plastic cover that hides the bars that ( by the looks of it ) opens the clam shell and the must also move the top as well. I cant see anything stuck, but I do not hear any gear/motor noise from that side when i hit the button.

Is there something i can check or is this a "straight to the dealer" problem?

  2. Well I finally moved down to Clearwater Fl.

Just wanted to know if anyone around the area might have suggestions on a good local Independent repair shop.

Someone good with Porsche and BMW's and Mini's...

Need to get the wife's Mini Cooper S in for a tune up and I'm too burnt out from the move to want to tackle it now...

    Thanks

  3. hmm. weird.

first off, i am assuming that you put the bulbs in the correct locations. the Boxster's headlights are counter-intuitive as the 'high beam' bulbs are located in the BOTTOM position, and the normal headlight bulbs are in the TOP position within the pod.

Yes bulbs are in correct locations. I have had the lows in for over a month before installing the highs

secondly, when you say 'HIDs' - exactly what kind of bulbs did you get? did you do a Litronic conversion or are you talking about halogen bulbs that have an HID 'appearance'? the reason i ask is because if you use a bulb with too high of a wattage/operating temperature, you can melt your headlight pods' plastic lens. and you do NOT want to do that. $$$

they are true xenons, not the cheesy look a likes. And they actually run cooler then the factory bulbs, the head light assembly's hardly even get warm now where before you could really fell the heat from the factory bulbs. xenon kits purchased from http://www.cqlight.ca/index.php?cPath=32_45

to turn the fog lights on, you must turn the switch 1 click to the right and pull the switch out 1 click. is that what you did to (try) to get the fog lights to go on? (just making sure...)

    Correct

are you SURE that the high beam switch was not clicked to the hi-beam ON position?

high beam was / is not turned on

i wrote a whole big long post before, but it boils down to these questions.

    - what happens when you try to turn the fogs on (do the fogs turn on, but the blue high beam dash light goes on but the high beam bulbs do not turn on, etc.)?

exactly what happens, lows turned on, pull switch for fogs and presto high beam indicator on dash comes on

    - what happens when you turn the high beams on? (does the blue dash light turn on and the high beam bulbs turn on normally)?

yes highs come on and fogs go off

    - what happens when you turn the low beams on? do they work normally?

yes lows work correctly, actually all lights work correctly, its jst the high beam indicator comes on when fogs are switched on

    - can you use the fogs and the low beams simultaneously? does the blue hi-beam dash light turn on when doing this?

    yes

basically, what are the results of every possible light switch position? ;)

all lights will work correctly, only issue is high beam indicator comes on when fogs are switched on

do your fog lights turn OFF when you turn the hi-beams on? (they should, unless your car is hacked to allow them simultaneously.)

fog lights do go off when highs are switched on

it could be a problem with the ignition switch. sometimes the car's electronics start acting flaky when the ignition switch starts to go bad. have you noticed the ignition switch sticking at all when you turn the key? also, make sure the headlight pods are solidly mated to their connectors inside the fender. i suppose it could be a problem with the stalk, or a relay or something like that.

i will try to reseat the headlights today and see if anything changes tonight

    Thanks for all your help.

hopefully, your answers will help pinpoint the problem.

  4. Last night I replaced my high beam bulbs with HID's. I did the low beams about a month ago and this issue was not happening

Tonight I took the car our for a drive, first time its left the drive way in over a month ( working from home sucks ).

I turned on my fog lights to show a friend the difference between factory bulbs and the HID's and my high beam light came on in the dash.

I checked both fog lights and they are both working.

What would cause the high beam warning light to come on, since I put the xenon bulbs into the high beams sockets?

The warning light did not come on before I put the new bulbs in last night, I did not have the high beams on when I switch on the fog lights.

I know this is a really odd question, but Im just wondering what would be causing this to happen. I have not had a chance to pull the HIDs out the high beam sockets yet to see if the warning light still comes on when switching on the fog lights

    Oh yeah.....

    US '01 986 non S :(

  5. That's why Im going to just take this one and build it up like I want and make a mold from it, and make my own.

I used to high end auto body and custom work and boat building, so fiberglass is no stranger to me.

once I get the new one built I'll post pictures. If you want one I'll make an extra for you.

I'm going to make sure it has more support then the way it's made now that for **** sure.

I'll post over in your tail light thread once I get home from work. :)

  6. Those are the same tail lights I have had since I got the car.

Been meaning to buy some newer ones, just not sure which way to go...

was watching your thread on the different styles to see which ones I wanted to get, because I cant stand the orange color on them.

Was that picture of the strosek you posted from a car you owned or just stock photos from somewhere?

trying to get some ideas on these things. I think I might make a few after I redo this one and make a mold from it and try sell if there is a market out there for them.

  7. Is that on a 986 ?

Looks completely different from mine. Mine hangs over the bumper more, and does not fit down on the to the lift arms as much.

I'm thinking of maybe just using this one to create my own mold and make it so it fits better and has more support.

Below are few pictures, and yes my car is dirty ( illegal to wash cars right now ) and who ever painted the spoiler "to match", looks like they used a buzz bomb. I'll need to get it repainted once I have my garage set back up.

  8. Has anyone here installed a Strosek rear wing (AV 52) on their car? I searched here for any posts but didn't see anything in the 986 forums...

I got one a few days ago for next to nothing and just wanted to know if anyone has had issues with them.

They look a little feeble around the mounting area... and I think after a few good bumps it could easily crack apart.

Anyone installed one? And if so do you have pictures of it on the car ( retracted, not up ).

  9. I had this same problem with mine...

I finally got it out but holding the headlight with one hand wiggling it while using my other hand to gently turn the headlight tool back and forth.

It popped out after a little fiddling. Seems like the release for the headlight some how gets stuck on the head light and wiggling both the release and headlight got it to pop loose.

I have this issue with my right head light every time I take it out.

  10. I suspect that if you replace the whole bumper it will work fine. My comments were about using the newer part on an old bumper (unless I misunderstood you).

well I would just like the center grill, but if I have to get the whole bumper I'm okay with that. My front bumper has seen better days, the last owner was a firm believer in "park by feel" and it has some dents and scratches in it.

I just cant find a part number for that style bumper, suncoast and pelican only show my two grill style.

What is the cut off point for which bumpers are interchangeable, I have an 01 US model, and would like something more aggressive looking.

    Thanks

  11. That center cover (and the bumper it fits) changed in MY03 - I do not know if it will fit an older car.

Just saw this front bumper on an 01 S - US automatic on ebay.

    tem

wounder if I could contact suncoast and see if they might know. It looks like the center grill is a "bolt on" piece.

wish I still had my autobody crash books

  12. And, what model year car do you want to put it on?

Sorry my minds not with it today....

Looking to put it on an '01 US boxster

I looked around and see that center grill on a bunch of them, Im searching through pelican parts but haven't seen it yet.

  13. Model year car?

    US or RoW?

    Standard front bumper or aerokit?

The only information I can find about that car is that it is an 03 Boxster S ( usa model )

I do not see any information about if the front bumper is a kit or not

Found the picture over on ppbb the owner goes by voxster.

Im also trying to track him down to ask about it.

  15. Just saw this looking around on the web.thispiece.jpg

and wanted to know if anyone knows if I can purchase this piece.

I like the look of the three grills and it looks like this piece is a bolt on for maybe manual transmission cars that have the third radiator on them

Oh and if it is a Porsche part does anyone know the part number?

    Thanks

  16. Well time has come for me to replace my F & R rotors and pads. Sensor came on today.

Not looking to spend a ton of cash because I'm in the process of moving. Any one bought off ebay before and had good results on the product?

I see some DRT Performance rotors on there for just a little over 350, the seller is listed as brakpro.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-04-Porsc...sspagenameZWDVW

I found f & R pads and sensors for another 125.00. Which is much cheaper them OEM rotors and pads from porsche.

Just wanted to see if any one had brought from them, or if any one has suggestions on a good place to purchase rotors and pads.

    thanks
