I getting ready to add heated seats on a client's 996. I recently priced it out using the parts search on this site and the list price was approximately $850 not counting the needed wire. I was using Dennis Vogels' material list and was going to place the order through Sunset.

The hardest part of the seat upholster is the bottom seat as you have to remove the cushion from the frame and then replace the old pad with the heated pad. The pad on the back rest is easy enough. The reason I know is I just re-upholstered my 986 seats and they came with factory heated seats.

I used to change my oil every 10K between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. After I hit 100K miles , I started changing every 8K and sent in samples to Blackstone Labs out of Fort Wayne, IN. I have received nothing but good reports back from Blackstone and they always recommend to use oil longer. I just changed my oil yesterday and placed an oil sample in the mail.

+1 for checking the oil filter after each change for metal and installing a magnetic drain plug. Buy a few extra crush washers so you always have a few on hand for each oil change.

I use MY 98 Boxster as an everyday driver, so no problem with having to change the oil at regular intervals. Some may not drive as much, so it is a good idea to change once a year and/or again right before storing for the winter. I try to avoid short trips, so I can get the car (and oil) up to temperature, so on short trips around town I take the long way home.

Have you checked the emergency brake switch? Does #5 above refer to that? The emergency brake must be on for the top to operate.

I added the Bluetooth, iPod adapter, and rear camera.

I've installed a couple of different Pioneer double din radios and they work slick. I have always used the Eurospeed Installation Kit. Below is there Kit on eBay. You might check their website and/or phone them and get a better price without eBay fees. Their wiring harnesses are plug-n-play with OEM radios.

Some say Pentosin 202 replaced Pentosin CH11 S. When I asked Sunset recently they suggested 202.

Its been a while, IIRC it should just snap in. To uninstall them you have to slide the whole assembly downward. There is a groved track that it slides in that keeps it from going backwards when the lights are pressed in during installation. Check any ears to squeeze or colored tab to poke out of its housing.

Not recommended to let car run at idle to warm up. Hard to tell from your post, but always better to drive vehicle upon starting and allow all fluids to warm with vehicle in motion and according to manual, best not to exceed 4200 RPM until temp is up to operating temperature, about 170+ degrees(or 5 minutes) or so,

Does the clam shell lie correctly when the hood (convertible top) is up? You may have something preventing the top from laying flat when folded under the clam shell.

+1 for a 3 spoke wheel.

Your AMP (996.645.301.01) may not be compatible. Do any of your speakers work?

You have a couple of choices. You can change the pads which is most likely the culprit or you can coat the back face of the pad's backing plates with high-temp brake grease or brake anti-seize compound. Some use teflon shims.

If you have the 490 Option you need a HAES 6x40W AMP with the following: 996 COUPE M490 996.645.311.00

Other AMPs may work but I know this one does for sure. Perhaps others can chip in.

Use a wood chisel or exacto knife and remove this key from your 6x40W AMP so it will mate properly with your harness.



You will need the AMP adapter that attaches to the infamous brown plug in the back of the radio. I have extra adapters if you need one.

If you look closely (I use a magnifying glass) under good light you can see the pin numbers on the AMP.

@kbrandsma - how well does the microphone work when making phone calls?

It works very well. It depends on where it is placed. I think on the wiper potentiometer blank plug is a good location, especially when the top is down. If connected to an iPhone 4S or higher you just press the button (BELKIN in Photo) and SIRI answers. The mic is in a small hole at 6:00 o'clock on button (you can't see it in the photo.) It is attached via a magnetic backing. You place a paper thin sticky magnet anywhere on the dash and then attach the button to it.

Resend a better photo of roll bar.

What year is your 4S. Is it a 996? That looks like the grommet area that goes through the fire wall and into the battery area under the front bonnet. You may want to re-check the drains again near the battery.

This works beautifully with the CDR 220.

1. Turn your AUX on

2. Plug your Blue Aux plug to the back of the CDR220

3. Buy a male to male 3.5 mm Adaptor from Radio Shack

4. Connect your Belkin Bluetooth to 12v power (I use the aux power supply in center console and wire an additional cigarette lighter jack or you can just plug it into the stock cigarette lighter)

5. Connect your Belkin Bluetooth to CDR with the Radio Shack Adaptor

6. Place your Belkin Bluetooth control button on dash (usually on the wiper potentiometer blank plug)

7. The Mic for the wireless phone is in the Belkin Bluetooth and speakers are your sound system speakers.

Plug the blue adaptor into the back of the radio.

Opposite the yellow plug in the "C" slot (pins 13-20)
