  1. Found the answer on 6SO. There's a black wire with a red stripe on the C plug (yellow plug) that is the amp turn on wire. I needed to splice that to the remote turn on wire, and music started coming on.
  2. I got everything wired up, but I'm not getting sound out of it. Do I need to find an amp remote wire somewhere that i'm not seeing in the wiring diagrams? My AVIC unit powers up fine... just no sound!
  3. Can someone direct me to the correct wiring harness to use for installing a new headunit in my 2002 996? Can't seem to get the search feature to spit out an answer for me. Thanks
  4. Ask yourself that question. If you were about to plunk down $35k+ on a used car, would you want to find one that has experienced no problems? Or would you rather go for one that's already had the problems and was fixed for them? Whenever I buy a used car, I tend to stay away from any cars that's received any type of body work, major mechanical work, or even lots of repair work over time (and I would know this because I won't buy a car without records).
  5. I bought a policy from www.insurancepoliciesonline.com a few months ago. It was a 4 year, 48k mile warranty with 0 deductible. The underwriter of the policy is The Warranty Group, and they are very easy to deal with. In fact, my service advisor said they were one of the better copmanies he's dealt with. I have a write up of my experience in the forum, so search for it.
  6. After looking 2 days through Renntech and 6SO, I still can't find a definitive answer on whether or not Metra 70-1787 harness will work for Bose systems. Is it a direct fit?
  7. Thanks Loren. That diagram really helped. It turns out that the very bottom hose clamp of the return line is leaking like a faucet when I put full pressure on the steering pump. Looks like a trip to the stealership to get this thing replaced, and I'll be good as new.
  8. Well the main question I have is if there's some sort of a return hose that I should be looking for that may have been left disconnected. Pressure builds in the pump, bleeds off the fluid, and a hose cycles it back in to the fluid tank. From the amount of fluid pouring out when pressure is built up in the pump, I figure it may be this type of a return hose. I already tried pulling the air box to see what I can find with no success. I think it would just help if I can get a little guidance on where to locate these components...
  9. It's at the rear. The fluid puddles directly below the power steering pump/tank area.
  10. I always thought I had a very slow drip of Pentosin which caused my tank to dry up every month or two, but I finally found the issue. It seems that every time I turn my steering wheel all the way to the left or right, the fluid just starts pouring out from underneath. No wonder I would smell something sweet burning every time I would parallel park... Any idea what would cause this? I recently had the expansion tank replaced due to a small crack (probably contributed to the leak). Is there a fluid return hose anywhere that bleeds fluid in to whenever you build pressure in the pump when turning the wheel all the way? Maybe a hose like this wasn't reattached properly after servicing...
  11. Just curious how a $4K 2-yr warranty for 30K miles with deductible is "better" than a $2,400 4-yr warranty for 48K miles with no deductible. What am I missing? I think you're missing the part about me saying that the $2,400 4-yr warranty with 48k miles was better than the EasyCare plan that was $4k for 2yr/30k. ;) In any case, I just wanted to contribute to the discussions about a good extended warranty contract. I did a lot of searching on the forums before purchasing the plan, but couldn't find much on what contract was good. So at least if someone else is about to purchase a contract too, they'll have some more text to base their decisions on.
  12. EasyCare was a little under $4,000 with a deductible for a 2 year 30,000 coverage. I think mine is better.
  13. Reading through the forum, I found a link that was posted by another member: www.insurancepoliciesonline.com. The site looked pretty shady, and a lot of broken links existed. However, I did some research and found that the company backing the site was a legitimate business found in Illinois and was selling vehicle service contracts underwritten by The Warranty Group. In any case, I knew I could claim fraud on my AMEX if it turned out that it wasn't a valid business... so I took a chance. Well one month later, I noticed that I had a leak in my power steering fluid reservoir and also had a lazy passenger side window regulator. I made one phone call to the number found on my service contract, and a guy at The Warranty Group picked up. 10 minutes later, I had an authorization to take my car to the stealership for repairs. Few days later, I took my car to Roger Beasley Porsche in Austin and gave them a copy of my contract for repairs. Next day, the car was completed after a $800 repair. The service manager handed me my keys and said "your warranty company is pretty cool. it went pretty fast". So for me, the $2,400 investment was worth it, as it bought me a 4 year coverage for 48,000 additional miles with a 0 deductible. Well worth it for a piece of mind.
  14. i actually want to know what that tube is in the second picture. you can see that there's a coating of oil at the top of the inlet/outlet of the tube...
  15. I found a few drips of oil on the garage floor today, so I started poking around. It appears that there's a tube that's leaking oil, and it appears that it has been leaking for quite some time. Can you tell me what this is? It's apparently spewing a good amount of oil, as a large part of the undercarriage is covered in oil/dirt muck.
  16. Are you sure your clutch isn't going out and is slipping when the horses really kick in?
  17. any tips on how to best diagnose a power steering leak on these cars? It feels like I need to re-educate myself on how to work on a car with a mid-engine setup.
  18. i just got the car this past weekend too! :( :( way to start the relationship with this car. just for knowledge, how does 202 supersede 11S?
  19. I just started hearing a whining noise coming from the car which seems to get louder after hard braking or if I'm standing on an incline (at least this is what I think is happening). The whine is almost like a tranny whine that you hear on most manual cars going in reverse. The pitch of the whine goes up and down as the revs on the car goes up and down. When the whine happens, I can feel a slight vibration on the brake pedal. Any ideas on what this could be? The car is a 2002 C2 Cab w/ 27k miles.
