  1. Got a Palm Treo? Show off your colors by modifying the dialpad with the Porsche crest.. go from the dull, same as everyone else out of the box boring to this: For those of you good at GIMP or Photoshop, you can do much more with it too. You will need a Palm Treo, PALM OS VERSION NOT Windows Mobile, and Skinner software which can be found here http://skinner.79bmedia.com/ Skinner is shareware so try before you buy... With Skinner you can also change the splash screens that display when the phone is turned on or off. Tried to find a "911" logo to see how that would look but no luck. If you have a 911 image in a format that can be scaled well send it to me.
  2. Looking at some 19" wheels, 8.5" Front and 10.5" Rear. Wheel Offset: ET45 Front and ET52 Rear OK for a 996 Cab (Narrow Body) Thanks! Here are the wheels I am considering, if anyone has opinions (appearance as well as quality) please let me know! Miro Wheels -OR- Scroll down to Race Inc, RPK 038
  3. VERY NICE! Wonder if there is room in my cab to do that.... Will check tomorrow AFTER I finish up the final bits and pieces left of my new clutch and AASCO lightweight flywheel install.
  4. Clutch seems to be slipping a bit in 3rd-5th when floor it starting at RPMS around 4k (RPMs increasing faster than acceleration). 46k miles. Here is my Parts list.. missing anything? Is there a list of what parts are replaced? i.e. what I need to order? Here is my list so far, missing anything? Prices below sound about right? Suggestions for different parts (flywheel or clutch kit) - Porsche Flywheel Torx Bolts (One Time Use Only) PN# 999 073 092 09 (Quantity 8) - Porsche Torx Case Bolts PN# 999 385 004 09 (Quantity 4) - Porsche Torx Balance Shaft Cover Bolts PN# 900 385 275 09 (Quantity 3) - Clutch kit (looking at the Sachs) ~$400 - Flywheel (Fidanza LWFW) ~$400 Is there a special alignment tool for the 996? If so suggestions on where to get it other than the stealership? Any other special tools might be needed or helpful. Have a pretty good setup already (compressor, tranny jack, etc.)
  5. Looked (search terms +clutch+replacement) and was unable to find any results... Are there any DIY instructions for replacing the clutch/flywheel?
  6. The parts costs were: - Rear TechArt spoiler: $850 from Suncoast These are not listed on their site and normally cost MUCH more than what I paid. The one I got was one that they had installed on a customer car and had some very, very minor cracks. Was able to get repaired for about $100. I chose the rear wing because it was good quality part, great price and like you did not want one that stuck up too high. Overall very pleased. - $65.00: 3rd brake light/fan wiring from Suncoast - MKII Side Skirts: $650 from Suncoast Suncoast MKII Skirts Link - '02 GT3 Front Lip; $221 from Suncoast The rear spoiler is fixed and basically replaced the entire OEM movable spoiler and mechanism including the grill area. Fitment was perfect. I installed all the parts myself, very, very easy. Check ebay, search for "Porsche 996", and you will find lots of stuff. Then if you find a spoiler or other body part you like post here and on other P car sites like 6SpeedOnline.com to ask about fitment, etc. Try to go with OEM if you can though they are uber expensive (not that many others are not). Highly suggest urethane as well... Below are some more pics of my 996, before and after... Since the pictures were taken I have replaced the 3rd brake light with a grey colored one that is lit with LED's. Matches very well, did not like how the red OEM one stuck out like a sore thumb.
  7. I did this recently, pretty much remove all the torx bolts you can get at and the 6 small longish bolts holding the acuator to it. Should not take more than 15 minutes.
  8. Here is mine with recently installed TechArt, MKII Side Skirts and '02 GT2 front spoiler lip. Install of all was a breeze! Paint for skirts and rear wing was ~$575
  9. What is the weight of 18" SPORTDESIGN WHEELS? These came with my 996 and am considering getting different wheels?
  10. which hollow spoke turbo twist fit a 996 Cab Narrow Body? Some I am looking at are part Number On the Rear Wheels is 993.362.140.00, and the Fronts are 993.362.136.00. rear offset 40, and 52 on the front. Are these the correct ones for mine or does it matter if they are off a turbo or not?
  11. I found then on ebay... Not mine, wish they were the correct ones for my year 996
  12. Seems pretty simple 1. Have side markers wired so they are on when the headlights are on 2. Move the rear fog light 3. Purchase EU version headlights
  13. My 996 is an '02 Cab. The part number on the back of the gauges I am looking at are 996-641-103-01-70C Will these gauges fit my 996? Asked what year it came out of but have not heard back from the seller. THANKS!
  14. I did not want to replace the whole bumper either and the lips that attach to the bottom I found were either fiberglass (break too easily), ugly, or uber-expensive.. I went with the '02 GT3 lip, see the write up here >>>> '02 GT3 Front Spoiler Lip Install Here is a pic of my 996 with it installed Cost was around $250 shipped... very easy install too. Not sure how much difference it makes by itself since I added the MKII side skirts and rear spoiler the same day...
  15. Using the option code lookup feature here was able to find all but a couple that are on the sticker of my '02 996 Cab The below came up with no results... And yes, I did add an "M" to them when searching as in "M448" C02 (Guessing this denotes the model year?) XRL 448 21431 The below were handwritten 025 4701 Last two questions... 1. 09991 came back with "Exclusive Options (no more details)" what could this be then? 2. The front bumper cover looks exactly like the GT3 version but mine is, from looking at the VIN, etc., not a GT3. Can anyone clarify? EDIT... OK, when I did the original did not get the XRL right, corrected and found out it is the "18" SPORTDESIGN WHEEL" Still trying to figure out what the others are... and how mine has a GT3 front bumper cover if it is not a GT3
  16. A wee bit too far of a drive... I am in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Close to Ft. Worth...
  17. Yeah, I think I remember you from tt.net. I was quite active there up until selling my Z. Was definitely a sad day.... My wife loves the Porsche and no matter what any of the Z folks may say they cannot get past the fact: "Porsche, there is no substitute." P car forums certainly are not as active and overwhelmingly a bunch of track rats (mean that in a good way). Too many Z owners seem to be getting to the point where they are young kids without the $$$ to have a sports car and thus are dragging them down to ricer status or worse. Definitely much more civil tone on the Porsche forums too!
  18. Been lurking for a while, joined a month or so ago... so figured it was time to introduce myself and say thanks for all the long time contributors. A lot of good info here! Will be adding AeroKit II side skirts, '03 GT2 front spoiler and TechArt Type III rear wing (supposed to arrive next week and then get painted) next week. Lucked out on a great deal on the rear wing so am doubly excited to get it on! Past sports car was a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, hated to sell it but after doing a bunch of suspension mods to it (final straw was replacing all the rubber and silicone filled rubber bushings). Drove like on rails but the ride from the passenger seat was punishing and thus the wife would not go on even short rides in it. Sad, only had 42k miles on it. Pic of it inserted below... Lot's of HP (just over 400 RWHP) but not much traction, definitely one thing I am enjoying about the 996! All is good though, always wanted a Porsche and a cab is even better!
  19. My experience with tolulene was with my prior car - 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo. Adding the right amount of tolulene increseased the octane (never went above around 100). Could then use the boost controller to increase boost from the normal (with upgraded ECU) 14.5 pounds to just under 20. Tolulene is easy to find at many paint stores like Sherwin Williams.
  20. I would be worried about the corrosion effects on injectors, seals, etc. Have heard good things about tolulene though. Tolulene is the component that increases octane in gasoline.
  21. Saw these on another 996 and really like the look. Looking them up they show to be through 2001 only. I am having a hard time seeing why they would not work on my '02 Cab... Anyone? Aerokit I GT Trims
  22. My last sports car being a 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, (sure miss the turbos!), a common suspension upgrade was to replace the OEM rubber or silicone filled bushings for the sway bars, suspension, etc. I have searched here (key words "polyurethane bushings", "polyurethane" and "bushings") and found nothing related to suspension. From looking under my '02 C2 Cab, it appears that the sway bar bushings are rubber which leads to my question - are there not any benefits on P-cars to polyurethane bushings or similar?
  23. Having attempted this on a couple other vehicles I would highly, HIGHLY suggest you leave the install to either someone who has a lot of experience or take to a speedometer shop to have them installed. Just my $0.02
