  1. I went ahead and changed the ignition switch and the problem persisted. I am sure it's the battery. I put the battery maintainer on it for two hours but it wasn't enough to get it started. So I had to do alot of traveling between places to get my battery charger and am now charging the battery at home.
  2. I bought the car used back in September and it came with a new Interstate battery. I hadn't been driving the Boxster much. Only 2-3 times a month just to keep the battery charged. But that's probably not enough. I wonder if my problem is ignition switch or just a weak battery. Again when I turn the key everything lights up pretty brightly so I tend to think it isn't the battery. I am trying to determine the cause online before I go and buy a battery pack to jump start it.
  3. Could my symptoms also suggest a weak battery that doesn't have enough juice to crank the engine?
  4. Thank you Loren. That's what I thought too, but wasn't sure. I search for the symptoms of a bad ignition switch and all I found was key stuck or key removed but engine still running. Again my key insertion and withdrawl is fine. I can turn the key to on no problem. But when I do crank the engine, the dash lights are blinking like x'mas lights. I am still trying to find posts I've read by people having the same problem. Would you be able to quickly find them? What keywords should I search under? Again, I was avidly reading the tech forums back in September after I got the Boxster. Trying to educate myself all the problems that could happen so I don't get caught by surprise. So the posts I've read were dating back 9 months ago :P Luckily I had bought a spare ignition switch 9 months ago knowing one day I'll need it.
  5. Hello, I hadn't been reading the tech forums for over half a year now and I have totally forgotten all the famous problems the Boxster possesses. I need a quick reminder of what my problem is. I have been searching but I can't seem to find the description of the problem I am facing now. My problem is my Boxster suddenly won't start today. I stick the key in and the dash lights will flash wildly and my windows went down an inch and back up repeatedly as well as I can hear the starter in the engine ticking. It doesn't seem to be a battery problem because all the lights are on brightly. Is this the famous ignition switch problem? My key goes in and out of the ignition fine. I remember reading this exact problem people had before, but I can't find it now. Could someone please remind me what this issue is? Is it battery related or ignition switch? thanks very much Ken
  6. How do they snap off? the piece sounds pretty crunchy when I press on it. I have a feeling whatever tabs it has will break off. I had removed my headlight today to re-route the emergency trunk release cable. I reinstalled the headlight no problem and is locked in. But I noticed that gap between my bumper and that triangle piece. The headlight is sitting very firmly in place. Is that gap caused by the headlight mounting plate sitting too high?
  7. Hello, How do I remove the triangle piece from my headlight? Mine has a small crack on it and I have ordered a new piece from Pelican, but I am not sure how this piece can be removed. any help is appreciated. thank you
  8. Oh you are buying it from that guy from Surrey right? Yeah I emailed him about it as well and he sent me a bunch of pics. It looks pretty good. If it was in Seal Grey I would have probably grabbed it. Good luck!
  9. Are you saying what I read was only an isolated case of a door lock gone bad? and that the Boxster's door can still be opened with a key-in-door even when the battery is dead? Please say it is so :)
  10. I am not as concerned about not able to get to the trunk if the battery dies, because I could use a secondary battery or a battery charger to popped it open, but I am scare of the fact I could be locked out from the car altogether when the battery dies; having read stories after stories of people not able to use the key in the door to open it. Why couldn't the door lock be fully mechanical like everyone else. I can't imagine what I will do if the car battery dies while parked somewhere in a public street and I am locked out from it.
  11. If I opt not to use my remote to lock and unlock my door, and physically stick the key in the door to lock/unlock, does my factory alarm still arm/disarm? Also, the transponder in the key has nothing to do with the alarm right? and only for the ignition immobilizer? Third question that's kinda related to the second one. If I buy a new key, does it need to be programmed to work with the alarm? or the programming needed is strictly for the ignition immobilizer so I can start the car? I guess to sum up what I want to ask is, is the ignition immobilizer independant from the alarm system? I've been reading threads after threads of cases (both here and 986forum) where people are locked out of their cars when the battery dies. This is so scary and I am afraid it will one day happen to me. Why did Porsche design the door and trunk locks by electrical only??! That is so stupid. They totally haven't given the owner a way to get into the car if and when the battery dies. Unbelievable
  12. How do you safely back the car onto the ramp without going over them? Those ramps sure look safe, but I worry about over shoot the ramp.
