  1. I've been havin intermittent issues with my instructment cluser and interior lights (a/c climent, interior buttons).  I tried wiggling the light switch but does not help.  When driving, in about 30mins to 1 hour or so, it turns on and stays on for inconsisant amount of time.  Is it the light switch or is there a relay that i need to check?

    Thanks

  2. I did it in my driveway with the car 4 feet in the air on cribbing it took nearly as long to get the car up and back down as it did to do the job. here is what I learned.

Make sure the car is high enough to get the transmission out whilst on the tranny jack.

    1. Remove under panels.

    2. Remove axle shaft bolts from transmission. Tie out of the way with wire. I left the bolts in place.

    3. Support engine/transmission with a floor jack, remove the forward transmission support bracket.

    4. Install engine support bracket. Adjust so the engine, transmission is leaning downward. This will allow better access to the transmission bolts at the top of the bell housing.

you will need 2 ft of 1/2 in extension with a universal joint to reach them. Keep track of the location of the bolts, they are different lengths. There is also 1 torx bolt or (full square?), be careful not to strip it.

    5. Remove clutch cylinder, One bolt is blind, be patient it will come out. Drop the cylinder assy and tie out of the way. There is several inches of rubber hose. Inspect for leaks, cracks etc.

    6. With the two tranny bolts at 3 and 9 o,clock loosened but not removed, install the tranny jack to take the load.

    7. Remove the shifter cables from the levers on the transmission. They snap on and off. Apply some grease during reassembly.

    8. Remove the two remaining bolts and gently!!!! rock the transmission loose while pulling it forward. Take note of the coolant hoses and be careful not to pinch them. If the floor is level and the

tranny is leaning downward, you will have to adjust the jack height as the tranny comes out.

    9. Replace fuel filter at this time. It will never be easier.

    10. Inspect the transmission mounting bushing at the front end, if cracked, replace (mine was, $80.00 from Pelican)

    11. Remove pressure plate and clutch assy. Discard bolts use new ones when reassembling.

    12. I would remove the flywheel to have a look at the RMS and IMS, If either is leaking, now would be the time to address. I did the IMS bearing upgrade from LN Engineering at the same time.

The bearing upgrade is another level of invasion requiring locking cam shafts, replacing oil plugs etc.

It took about 4 hours to remove, not counting the 2 plus hours I needed to remove the stripped torx bolt (be careful here). I could have it out in 2 hours the next time. literally 32+/- bolts and its out.

check here for a pictorial www.c-speedracing.com/howto/996rms/rms1.php

Good luck and don't be scared.

Does the engine bracket work on a 996tt? i am going to attempt to do the clutch myself.

  3. I am in need of rear tires. I want to get some Toyo T1R. They do not make the OEM size.

The size closes is 295/35/18. Can I run that in the rear? If I can, do i need to match up the front to 225/45/18.

Or can I run 225/40/18 until i need new tires on the front then get 225/45/18?

  4. No electrical/wiring done on the car. Guess it is time to bring it into the dealers.

Didn't have time to bring to the dealer yet. I noticed I can't turn on cruise control. I accidently hit the cruise control on/off switch and noticed the light didn't turn on. Is there a similar switch for the cruise control?

  5. Loren,

That is the switch i changed out. I noticed another thing this morning. With my parking lights off. When I press my brake pedal, I see the passenger side marker and the light in the headlight light up. I only noticed the passenger side and not the driver side. What else could be wrong?

    Thanks.

  6. I am getting the ABS/PSM warning lights. It goes on as soon as I turn on the parking lights.

One thing I noticed. All 3 brake works normal when the parking lights are off. As soon as i turn on the parking lights the ABS/PSM warning lights come on. The 3 brake lights comes on without pressing the brake pedal.

I checked with my Durametric software and got the following faulty code.

    4340 stop light switch

P0571 Porsche fault code 364-Brake pedal position sensor

I already changed my stop light switch. But still getting the fault code.

Does anyone know where the brake pedal position sensor is and how hard is it to change out?

  7. I am planning on doing the Upsolute flash. Does anyone know a local shop in the Bay Area or Sacto area that could do the Upsolute flash? I am not planning on doing any more mods on the car. I currently have new DVs, "F" hose and BMC filter installed.

    Thanks

  8. If I purchase the Durametric Diagnostic Tool. Can I use it to program how the doors lock/unlock. Currently, the doors does not automatically lock when the ignition is switched to "on" position. I recently added a new key. I only received a valet key when I purchased the car. Dealer charged over $100 to program the key. :cursing:

    Thanks

  9. Hi,

    I purchased a GT3 Shifter #997.424.010.00 to be installed in a '02 996TT.

I removed everything and found out that one of the cable does not have a end attachment. Does that mean I have to replace the cable or is there an option to purchase that end attachment. Here are some pictures taken.

Notice the stock shifter have a "E" or "C" clip on the shifter and the GT3 does not.

  10. Welcome aboard...you and I have exactly the same car....midnight blue 02 X50, although from your description you have the 996TT?

There are a lot of things you can do to and with this car....but there are a lot of things that unnecessarily deplete your VISA card with little or no return. Please feel free to email me at fishoncj@aol.com. I will be happy to provide you with the names and locations of the premier Porsche independent mechanics.....there is only one dealership and that is Niello Porsche in Rocklin...somewhat close to you I imagine. As Loren told you, there are a lot of things you can do on your own without having to incur major debts from the dealerships. There are about 4 main independent Porsche shops in the Sacramento area. Loren sponsors periodic Work on Cars Days in the Sacramento area. He just had one at his house last month.

I'd like to get together with you and take a look at your new acquisition. Where did you pick it up? I live in Elk Grove which is about 35 miles from Rocklin.

I think you'll enjoy this forum and if you haven't already paid to join, I would encourage you do do so. It gives you access to the Do-it-Yourself databases as well as a lot of additional info.

I'm sure you're going to enjoy owning this car.

    Chuck

    Chuck,

I am pretty handy with a wrench. I installed most if not all the mods on my previous car. I just wanted to know where i can bring the car in for major things.

I picked the car up in SoCal, Studio City. I actually called Niello Porsche when i was down in SoCal asking them if they sell extended warranty.

I would love to attend a Work on Cars Day. Where would i find more information on the next one? I would love to change the brake lines to SS ones and bleed the brake fluids. :D

I am usually free on weekends and can definitely get together. You can email me at blklexusgs@gmail.com
