  1. I am the owner of a 2001 Boxster tiptronic. Lately , with top up or down, I get a smell/stink of something that is akin to burnt coffee. The temp dash light neither goes on to flash or steady. The transmission shifts ok.There are no fault codes or engine lights. Any suggestions?

  2. Fault code 47 -- Central locking synchronisation

    Possible cause of fault:

    - Short circuit to ground/open circuit between alarm system control module and door locks

    - Door lock faulty

Fault code 61 -- Central locking limit position· Unlocked not reached

    Possible cause of fault:

    - Incorrect country coding

    - Short circuit to ground/open circuit in wiring between the alarm system control module, central locking switch or door locks

    - Door lock (driver's/passenger's) faulty

    - Control module faulty

    Thanks once again Loren

  3. I am the owner of a 2001 tip boxster 38000 miles and am having locking problems. I went to a local indie who found two codes 61 and 47. One is a communication problem but he couldn't find the description of the other. Which is which, I do not remember. In any event, I was getting the double beep sporadically. The gas lid needed to be unlocked using the key in the door and the passenger door had to be released from the inside. He cleared the codes and we are now looking for further guidance in fixing the issue. When I picked the car up and locked it, double beep came on with the unlocking. We or he thinks the alarm module may be defective. What do you think? :renntech: :renntech:

  4. I am the owner of a 2001 base boxster with tip;color seal grey,36000 miles and was looking good. This am while backing out of the garage, I hit the side of the garage with the passenger side mirror. The mirror cracked and the housing popped open on the bottom. I was able to snap it together without glass breaking or injuring the housing. Now the question.

Can I purchase only the mirror itself, if so what is the part number and I further assume I can get it from Sunset.

    Thank you,

  5. zlawman,2001 tip seal grey Boxster. About 2 months ago I thought that for safety sake I would have the auto door lock activated. Since then, it double honks on both opening and closing either door. The panel light stays on after opening and honking. It makes it harder to shut the passenger door as it half locks when a person gets in and closes the the door; the door remains partially unclosed. It takes a real effort to close the door, I can take it to the local dealer, but would like to avoid the rip off charge. Do you have any suggestions; perhaps there is someone in the Newton Ma or Boston area with the machine for deleting this locking issue

  6. Bose did not start until model year 2002, unless someone has played around with the car.

You twist the round black plastic things on the top of the speaker/storage box then lift the box up. If you have speakers in the box then there is a connector to disconnect.

Thank You I'm going out to try it with my 5 thumbs.
  7. You cannot program a remote, new or used, to the car unless you have the paper tag that came with the remote. That tape has a 24 digit code on it. You program the control unit under the seat, not the remote. Without the paper tag or code you are out of luck

zlawman asks: Is there a central location to get a new tag--maybe using the vin#?

  8. zlawman,2001 seal grey tip,34000 miles. As I indicated in an earlier post I'm having remote trouble. So, before spending $230 at a local dealer to replace the key head, I decided to manually lock/unlock the car. Now when I lock/unlock or open from the cockpit the horn blows twice. The manual, of course, says got to stealer for remote work. Is this necessary or can I do it myself?

  9. One of my switches was not working all the time. It is soldered to the circuit board, and one of the solder joints had broken. I was able to solder it. That was 9 years ago and it still works.

I have also seen the switch break off the circuit board.

Check to see if you have a bad solder joint, and that is why the switch is not working. If the switch itself has gone bad then I know of no replacement. Time for a new remote unless someone can find a source for just the switches. Porsche does not sell them, just the entire remote.

Tool Pants: I can mkae the diode light by jumping the connection with a paper clip, so I dont think there's a bad solder joint. I just put a call into my local indie to see if he's got a bad head and perhaps take off the top of the switch and substitute it. Looks like a trip to the local dealer.

    Thanks for the input

  10. Yes to both.

Sometimes you can open those up and clean them up and bend them a little and get another 6 months out of them. Otherwise you likely need a new key head.

Thank you very much for your wisdom and patience

    zlawman

Loren: Once more please. I took the board out of thr key head and pressed the two trunk buttons. Both flashed the diode. The large button did not work so I took the top contact off and jumped the two metal portions with a paper clip. The result was the diode worked. It looks like that button is worn down and does not make contact. How do I find a replcement for the small contact. A local dealer quoted $230 for a new key with programming. Any ideas?

    Thanks again

    zlawman

  11. Well, you can try a new battery but the keyhead may be bad.

Does your second key work fine?

Just bot a new battery. Same results. no lights. Is there a way to check the keyhead or do I have to buy a new one. I'll try the spare when I get home from work

    Again, thanks Loren

Loren: The spare I now recall never worked. When I went to the car and pressed the rear trunk opening button, it did work once---no red light. Do you think that the contacts maybe worn down so that they are not meeting on the push of the button or do I need a new head.

  12. :welcome:

The is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that covers this.

"After replacing the battery, check if the remote control functions. If the remote control does not function, the processor could have stopped. If this is the case, the LED of the remote control either does

not light when the button is pressed or it lights continuously, i.e., longer than length of time the button is pressed. The processor must be restarted."

    "2. Restarting the processor.

2.1 Remove battery as described under Step 1.2.

2.2 Inserting battery briefly with polarity reversed.

2.2.1 After a waiting time of at least 10 seconds, slide battery with the polarity of the battery reversed (positive terminal downwards) under the tab (Figure 1, arrow 2).

2.2.2 Clip battery downward into the holder.

2.2.3 After a waiting time of approx. 3 seconds, remove this incorrectly polarized battery again.

2.3 Install battery as described under Step 1.3.

2.4 Check the function of the remote control."

Loren: Thanks so much for the TSB. I tried all that and now no lights work. What next?

And your problem is the same as the first poster? The light stayed on all the time?

Yes, it did. I took the battery out to kill the light and after replcement,it doesn't work at all.
