  1. Loren: Ithink you missed the point of my previous post. Even if you go to a Porsche dealer the only service history you will be able to get is the service history that particuler dealer performed. That is to say if it was serviced at another Porsche dealer that history is not available on the dealers computer. My reference to the BMW dealer was that from my understanding, if you own a BMW and go to a BMW dealer you can get a complete maintenance history of all work that was performed on the car at other BMW dealers.
  2. The solenoid failed on my 2006 Cs--when it failed it also caused the the rear hatch and rear window to not open. There is manual release for the gas filler inside the rear rightside compartment but apparently no provision to manually open the hatch or the window. Sort of screwed up my vacation as I was 2hrs away from the nearest dealer. Fixed under warranty when I returned home but was a real pain trying to get my 75# Dalmation into the rear area thru the back seat!
  3. I added a trailer hitch to my 2006CS. I used a Curt Mfg hitch. etrailer.com $168.95 The factory parts required are: 955 618 040 10 Control unit List $147.84 Sunset 115.61 955 612 506 00 Harness List $134.79 Sunset 108.50 PNA 955 118 93 Adapter plug This is a 7 pin rv type plug to accomodate trailer brakes (It's called adapter plug It's really a receptacle w/ hinged cover mounts thru rear valance) List $17.50 Sunset 12.08 PNA 955 12708 this converts the 7way round to 4 flat List 17.50 Sunset 12.08 if your trailer has led lights: UHaul 39008 (This part is similar to the 955 12708 but has internal resistors) 7way round to 5 flat (5th is backup lights) UHaul.com $29.95 Additional cost was $270 at the dealer to mount the control unit and program the computer to tell it that a trailer hitch is installed. I had the TSB that shows how to install the hitch but I couldn't figure out how to mount the control unit. Turns out it requires removal of the cd changer in the rear right side compartment then mounts behind the changer.
  4. In reference to the Optima battery, I believe I read somewhere that they are too tall to fit in the space provided. Really dumb of Porsche to put a battery that needs service ie periodic water replacement under the seat and then recommend service every 2years or 20000 miles. Some sort of maintenance free battery should have been speced! I finally bought the special 10mm triple square tool from Snapon that is necessary to remove the seat bolts. Uncovered the battery so as to service it--discovered that it is a Varta with no removeable caps thus no maintenance necessary. The Varta catalog shows the replacement to be a Varta Ultra dynamic--which is an AGM absorbant glass mat with no maintenance required. It would seem to be a no brainer to replace the battery with a similar no maintenance battery--unless you enjoy unbolting the seat once a year to add water. I would guess that the no maintenance feature accounts for the high price of an oem replacement. I discovered that Varta has been bought by Johnson Controls--they make Interstate batteries and a lot of the batteries sold by various auto supply stores. I emailed Johnson Controls yesterday to ask where to purchase , other than Porsche dealer, but have not received a reply.
  5. Or you could wait until you take it to the dealer but all you will find is the list of factory installed equipment. In order to get a repair history you have to go to the dealer that actually did the service. It would seem that in these days of computer communication you should be able to get a complete repair history by going to any dealer--but it's not available from a Porsche dealer. I understand that BMW dealers can access a complete vehicle history--but not Porsche.
  6. Autozone lists a battery for an 06 CS: H8DlG gold series, 8 yr warranty $129.99. My local Autozone carries them in stock.
  7. If you get the 19" wheel option from the factory they come with 275 45 19 tires. Shouldn't be a problem.
  8. The car is an 02 C4 Cab. On the bottom of the car, in front of the rear wheels is a black plastic piece screwed to the underside of the car. A rubber piece about 9" long by 1" wide is secured to this plastic piece by 4 protruding pins that are part of the rubber piece. I assume there are 2 p/n's for right & left? TIA
  9. I believe this has been addressed before in this forum-- if the car was a "hardtop delete" when new it won't have the rear attachment hardware.
  10. My stealer charges $135 per hour --hence the post on this forum. I was hoping that one of the Porsche mechanics that post on this site could shed some light on how the cab top works and what the possible solution might be before I bite the bullet and head on down to dealer land.
  11. Tried to put the top up on 02 996 C4 cab--rear panel went up about 8 inches then stopped. I noticed that the small flap on the drivers side was all the way up but the flap on the passenger side was only partially up. I held the pass side flap up while pushing the top button and the top went all the way up. What controls these flaps? A linear actuator motor? Is this a possible doit yourself fix or am I doomed to visit the stealer?
  12. The service advisor at your local Porsche dealer can generate a complete "Vehicle information" report from your vin #. The report I got not only documents all the factory installed options but the serial numbers of components like the cd changer, dme unit, sat receiver, transfer box, ect.
  13. Sunset fixed me up with a "Carrera" in black p/n 996 559 237 09 70C but they claim that the "4" doesn't come in black. WTF? Do I have to paint the 4 to match?
  14. Roughly the same rate of consumption on my 04 turbo (51k mi) for oil. It was kinda scary at first, until you realize you have a LONG time until your next oil change. I'm beginning to like this approach - I just ordered a small box of oil wholesale, and keep a bottle of Mobil1 5w30 in the back (next to CDC) for my own convenience. Factory fill is 0W40 why would you use 5W30?
  15. Ok I paid the $25 so now I'm able to see the TSB's -- how do you go about printing them? The trailer hitch TSB for a Cayenne is 12 pages long I don't think I can remember all of it.
  16. I understand that Cayenne's don't like led trailer lights. But aha Uhaul sells a part-- P/N 39008 Led Light Trailer Module for $29.95 that "allows VW's, Porsche, and Audi to pull a trailer with led lights - use only with led lights". But this adapter plug transitions from the 7pin round to a 4pin flat trailer connector. What do you use to tow a trailer that has both brakes and led lights and uses a 7pin round connector? Has anyone opened up one of the uhaul adapters to see what magic is inside besides the transition from 7 to 4?
  17. And the Harness P/N? I have 955 612 596 00 is this the correct # for 06 harness?
  18. Need trailer coupling unit - is 955 618 040 02 the current #? Also need harness # Adapter plug 7 pole is 955 044 000 64? Jeff @ Sunset says this adapter plug is a goofy item with a combo of round & flat pins. the correct P/N is PNA 955 118 93
