  1. Since you have the problem documented while still under warranty, doesn't that require them to resolve the issue, even if it continues out of warranty? Assuming you never close the issue fully with them...
  2. I'm going to assume this is not gonna happen without a PIWIS, but... I want to reset the "service now" notice. I tried the "Insert key and turn while holding the odometer reset button" with no effect. Any further suggestions besides a run by the shop? They refused to do the reset without actually doing the service (which I've already done!).
  3. Hi guys. I know more than a couple of you are West Coast based, so I have 2 questions for you! 1. Is there a good link (besides wikipedia) that gives a rudimentary level of understanding to registering a car in California? 2. How would a 1999 Jeep Wrangler be classified, for emissions testing? (I'm assuming like a truck, but you never know)
  4. What do you mean by Sport Setting? I wasn't aware of any sport mode on these cars, there is a sport suspension mode, right? Thanks~ Mark I believe the newer models do have a proper "sport" button. For older models, "PCM off" provides a similar experience, at least in terms of transmission shift points, etc. Yes, the sport suspension mode. Oh, and I tried the "PCM OFF" button. Good lord, what a difference! I bet it shaved a half second off the 0-60 time. Going to try the runs again next month, with PCM off. The vehicle behaves much more wild with it disabled, that's for sure. Almost to the point of recklessness... think I'll nickname it the "no longer civil" mode button. Or the "scare the bejeesus out of my passengers" button. Turbo spool time is about the same, but the raw V8 power shows up more.
  5. Non smokers with ipods and cell phones need them ;) I have the new non smokers tray and have removed the bezel but am unable to find the 2 "clips" that I need to remove. If anyone could provide more detail or a pic it would be greatly appreciated. Would be easy to modify that tray to include a 2 outlet 110V inverter....
  6. Oil consumption has been around 1 liter per 750 miles of driving for me. Luckily, there's a relatively large oil capacity - but the caveat is: when the oil light comes on, buy 3+ liters of oil. You'll need it.
  7. I know it seems too obvious, but tried turning on the AC and opening the hood and looking? I have a 2004 with the same buzzing; it appears to come from the driver's side. I never bothered to look closer, but I do believe the noise is louder than before my 40,000 mile service.
  8. I went to the track a few weeks ago, figured I would share a few numbers for the mildly curious. No launches were brake-stands; all were flat starts (let off brake, push gas) so aren't quite as fast as they *could* be. I just wanted to see what realistic numbers would be. I expect the Cayenne could easily get into the low-mid 13s if it was driven by someone with more skill. I chickened out on the hard launches :) 1/4mi: 14.5@101 (sport setting), 14.7@102mph, 14.9@105 0-60: 5.9 (this number is just an estimate, my records missed the 60mph mark, but 55 was 5.6 and 65 was 6.3, so I split the difference) 0-100: 13.9 (sport setting), 14.3, 14.7 1/4mi were pretty consistent considering my lack of experience on the truck. The 0-60 and 0-100 times were all over the place. I noticed the sport suspention setting made nearly a full second difference in the 1/4 times - that's pretty serious stuff. My next test will be a sanctioned SCCA event in a few months. I'm quite sure I'll be the only competitor in my class, so no real competitive numbers. Unless someone in an X5 decides to give it a shot, it might not even be worth updating.
  9. I got the bluetooth version of this one: http://www.obdkey.com/vehiclediagnostics.asp I'm not real impressed with the amount of data it can pull from my Cayenne, but it works on nearly all cars/trucks in the US. (Ford F150, Lexus SC430, Mercedes SLK tested so far, can at least read basic codes and exhaust information) As far as I know personally, OBD2 readers can only read information and reset some engine codes. No real testing or tuning can be done (I've never witnessed or read about any, at least)
  10. I paid $270 for the 20k service which includes oil change and thorough inspection. I paid $170 here in Florida; it's actually not a real complicated oil change. Just expensive oil, and lots of it. edit- mine was the 40k oil change on a turbo. The entire service was nearly $600.
  11. Make sure you have the CD changer cartridge (if it has a changer), the Navigation CDs. Those were the two things I missed when I inspected mine for purchase.
  12. I put Silverstar bulbs in when my driver's side turning light went out. They're definitely a few steps brighter; I feel they're overbright. The new bulbs are more powerful than the normal headlights, and it is a moderately annoying effect when you are driving. However, the bulbs are a fairly cheap investment, and it isn't so bad to swap them back out if you don't like it (I did).
  13. Well, what were the results? I don't know about him, but I have trouble getting my 2004 turbo below 14 seconds. To the Porsche's credit, I'm not launching as hard as I can, nor am I stripping the car down (I even had a passenger on several runs). I'll be trying it again this weekend, and I'll post the 0-60, 0-100, and 1/4mi numbers when I remember. I'll push hard on 3 runs, and do a real-world start on the remaining runs, to see how effective I am versus a normal launch. Be nice to compare to someone's Turbo S.
  14. Billy, try calling Furrin Auto at (850) 222-6864. They handle VW and should have the capability to handle your job. They're located on West Tennessee Street, in front of FSU.
