    Hi, A rather basic question, but I need the trim and nozzle piece for the passenger side headlight on a US 996 C2 2004. I have the parts manual, but don't know what side L R refer to, so is the correct part: 996 628 143 00 or 996 628 144 00 ? So, is 'L' facing the car, or sitting in the car?? Thanks in advance. Simon

    Great advice kgoertz - I used a small AC compressor using one of the inflatable toy adapters (See photos) - hit the compressor for about 1 second and the washer pops up. Leaving the compressor connected, but not on, keeps enough back pressure to keep the washer popped up as I removed it. The best way is to lightly compress the tabs on the main shaft, then the chrome cap just pops off. btw I completed one light - for me I needed one 3M kit per headlight, so the passenger side is next weekends project....     This is a great fix. I had noisy seats in my 2004 C2 Cab ever since I bought the car in 2007. It was 'on my list' to remove the seats - ugghh. I gave this fix a go using the Teflon spray (from Amazon.com), and it worked perfectly. 5 minute fix. I've attached a couple of photos showing the bushing cover, both on and off. It's more like hard plastic than rubber, and to remove it I found pushing with your thumb on the side facing you as you grab it from behind the seat the seems to work. Simon

    I have some pretty dingy headlights on my 2004 996, and I plan to use a 3M kit to restore them. My plan is to remove the headlights and place them in a jig to hold them while I preform the restoration. One question though - has anyone done this on headlights that have washer with the chrome caps, see photo? Should I try to remove these first, and if so, how? I've looked in the forum regarding the chrome caps and there are generally instruction on how to install replacements, but not on removal. I don't want to break anything, since that would mean I need new headlights. Thanks in advance. Simon

    Does anybody know the p/n of the rubber tray liner on the passenger door side of a 2004 C2 Cab? Car wash must have sucked it up :( Picture shows where it would go - hope I can buy this part separately. thanks, Simom

    Hi, I have the noise from the soft top on by 2004 C2 Cab. I've got the TSB and have a quick question - the TSB talks about applying grease on a rubber spacer as show below, however this actually looks like a cast piece of metal, not rubber... Do I have the right piece? It actualy looks like it's got some residual grease on it so it looks right. Also, the krytox grease appeas to be $70 (???) a tube - it threre a non-porsche equivalent someone could recommend? Simon

    Hi, I have previously only bought tires and had alignment down by my dealer - since I now go to an independent for everything else, is there anything special about the alignment that my local Howard Tires can't do. Also, I assume N rated tires are available to non-Porsche dealer. Also, I've seen N=1 to N=5 - what do the numbers actually refer to? thanks, Simon

    It looks to me like Das Schild (the plastic inside hood protector) is no longer made for the 996 - everybody I've looked at is out of stock. Has anybody positively confirmed this? thanks, Simon

    Hi, I have a 2004 C2 Cab and I want to replace the front lid microswitch - are these instructions relevant for a 996? http://www.renntech....ch-replacement/ Seems like I can just peel back the liner, not remove it. Also, these instructions don't talk about cables (i.e. mechanical) that must be attached to the latch?? Thanks, Simon

    Hi Loren, Are there any instructions on how to remove the seats? I did a search but couldn't fine anything. I'd also need the torque values when re-installing. I have a 2004 C2 with full power and heated seats. Simon

    I did this about a year ago - it's totally the way to go. That said, I don't 100% recall what I did, but I think you pop out the spring clips from the new one to remove the flap, and them just push it in the old one. It tool me about 5 minutes. Simon

    I actually haven't since I didn't get a response. I don't want to have airbag issues etc., and mine is the driver seat, so if I can't reinstall it I'm kinda screwed. I'm thinking of just handing this to my independent and having them performe the TSB... SImon

    Upon further inspection it is the UV coating that is peeling off - bummer. I guess I'll look for a refinishing service. Simon

    Hi, I've just noticed that the surface finish of my 2004 C2 996 headlights have a bunch of rough spots, and in areas almost looks like a surface coating is peeling away. Any advice on how to fix this issue and restore my headlights? thanks, SImon

    There are no steps to miss, that feature is a function of the switch - note the switch only locks in the out posiiton if the headlights are turned on also. Simon

    Hi, My driver seat in my 2004 C2 Cab makes a binding creaking sound when moved front to back etc. It looks like a common problem and I've read the TSB. I can likely tackle the TSB if I can figure out how to get the seats out, but my question is are they are other things I can try first vs. removing the seats? thanks, Simon

    Thanks Lauren - I'm doing mostly Freeway driving in the bay area - I've heard 20,000 miles between cleaning is typical - does that sound about right? Simon
