  1. I just bought a 2000 996 convertible.    It did not come with the rear shelf that covers the hydraulics.  Part# 996.551.035.01.B04.  I have been having a little difficulty finding the part used and even wondering it its important to have in place.   The top still operates great and the rear window is perfect so the lack of the part has not hurt the top.  I usually don't have the top up and that is the only time you can see the carpet is through the window when its up.   Thanks and great to be back!!!!

  2. Got a dealer suggestion to replace a part, leak from "left side cam solenoid seal". The part number is 99610522352. Could not find any info one replacing the seal. Has anyone done it or have instructions? Before I spend the cash, the part is $18, labor $130. Thank you!

    Izzy

    Izzy,

I have the solenoid seal if you would like it. Part#99610522352. Brand new. I was getting ready to do mine until I sold mine and got another. Let me know!!!

  3. I de-snorkeled my 2005 987. I was getting 23.2 miles per gallon before I did the mod. I drove for about 500 miles in mixed driving. Now I get an average of 20.8 after the mod with about 500 miles of mixed driving. I may have lost a little just because I was driving harder to hear the air intake. I can hear a little differance and will probably keep the mod on there. It was not as dramatic a change as it was on my 986.

  4. welcomeani.gif Welcome!.

I also had a 1999 986 and just bought a 2005 987 about 3 months ago. The two cars are both incredible but the 2005 is a much better driver and so far just as reliable as my 99. I never really had that many problems to begin with. The RMS on the 2005 (m96) engine were a little problamatic (per this forum) but was improved with the 2006 model year. Mine had an engine replacment with a 2006. Lots of good info here to give you more specifics...

  5. Has anyone tried this or is it even possible on the 987 to reseal the bolts? Mine is not bad. However, I took it to two dealers. One was going to charge me $2,400.00 the other was $1,000.00 or $1,100.00 with an oil change. I really dont want to spend the money right now since it only leaks after sitting a few days and it does not sit very often!!

  6. Thanks for all your help. So it looks like a newer engine. I would guess then that any warrenty for the exhange would be gone since they only warrenty for 2 years after replacement. So with the newer engine would it have the new RMS update then? I was planning on having the crank case seal replaced and since they would have the engine out I was going to have the RMS seal replaced at the same time. But if it has the newer RMS then maybe not until the leak gets worse. It only dropps a bit of oil after it sits for a few days. Any thoughts on the crank case leak?

  7. Here is what the dealer supplied me as the serial#. The mechanic said that the numbers do not match the timing of the car. The car was put in service 01/05. I checked the sticker on the drivers door and it has 11/04 as the build date.

So with your your formula here is what I think it means.

    Engine 25At 61665055

    1st digit - No of Cylinders 6

    2nd digit - Engine Version 1

    3rd digit - Model Year 6

    4th-8th digit - Serial Number 65055

  8. I just bought a 2005 987 non S. I took it to the dealer that I have some of my service done and one of the master tech's said he thought the engine I had was not the original. He said he has been doing this for 30 years and the engine serial number does not match the age of my car and he also said that it was way to clean. I tried to call Porsche North America but the could not release the information? I want to know if it is a new engine. I just started to develop a crank case seal leak and hope that it may be covered. The car has 45k miles.

  9. guys,

my car is stock, no flash. I did a dme and found no faults pertaining to the Engine Compartment Fan (side right vent) or anything pertaining to the temperature stuff. I did a DME on the engine, it stabilises at approx 85 degree celcius whether hard or normal drive. the engine compartment temp is hovering around 46-56 degress. However these readings are taken when the Engine Compartment Fan is on (as I have no way to deactivate the fan for the read to be taken).

The Front Fender fan seems like it's always on if your Airconditioning is on, so that shouldn't be much of a worry.

One more thing, My car smells like there's something burning inside the compartment after a drive. I also a couple of guys writing in asking if i do get that smell too.

Could i get a quick show of hands from guys experiencing these two problems on their 987S or no S?

    1) The Engine Compartment Fan is perpertually on!

    2) The Right Side Vent produces a burning smell everytime after a drive!

    Thanks guys..

    Show of hands.

    1. My engine cooling fan is also always on.

    2. I have never had a burning smell

  10. 987edit.jpgI made some out of 1/8 stainless and had them lazercut. I will enclose a picture. Took about 3 hours in autocad ,the 9 and the 8 are porsche font and the 7 is what took 3 hours to design. I was thinking of debadging the rear and repalcing with the 987 badge but decided to wait. In the picture i placed the #s by the boxster badge to get an idea as to size and composition. If i were to use them the boxster badge would have to be removed. Sorry, picture is not great but i can email you the same picture but not photobucketized if you are interested in a set.

  11. I just bought a 2005 987. I want to do the same thing i did for my 1999 986. I replaced the rear Boxster badge and replaced it with a 968 decal. I just switched it around to read 986. Is there something out their I could use to make a 987 Rear Badge?
