  1. Wow thats a fast reply, Thanks Loren, That battery is only 1 year and a half (old July 2009) How long a drive should I go for, to charge up the battery before I place the car into storage? Thanks
  2. I have not drove my 996 for about 2 months, And found today when I went to start it, that the battery is completely flat! (forgot to use my porsche battery Maintainer 'trickle charger') So I was going to jump start my 996 go for a drive to charge up the battery, and do the following: 1. Park it up for the winter (tuck it into bed, in it's garage) And 2. Connect the porsche battery Maintainer Will this be enough to bring the battery back to life before winter storage! Or should I have the battery charged by a garage? Thanks James
  3. Why don't you clean the inside of the MAF? I would assume the contacts are the most important part to clean or am I wrong? cheers
  4. Greg, I don't have a PSE exhaust, it's a Design Tek one. and the original one was the standard exhaust without the PSE. But I will either way have a look at this and check it out. it's possible. Cheers James Immediately behind your hand is a red plug connected to a grey item. It looks like it could well be the on/off valve for the pse (do you have a pse fitted, and does the on/off still work? if not maybe it was installed before you got the car and later removed but the vacuum lines were left in place). If it is the on/off valve there will be two vacuum connectors on it. One for in and one for out. Check if one of these has nothing connected to it (or that the vacuum lines that are connected to it are still connected to something at the other end!). Then again, I may be completely wrong, but it is does look like it and is in about the right location. Cheers Greg
  5. Thanks Dharn55, I had a look around and cant find any line thats looks like it should connect to the splitter. What exactly are the vacuum lines? Would driving with this disconnection cause any harm to my motor? Thanks
  6. Took these pictures the other day. looks like they are coolant stains. There was a drop in coolant a while back (on cold engine) but then it returned like magic to normal level??? So the other day on doing a visual inspection I noticed these stains on the tank, the cap, the bleed valve, and on the pipe underneath the engine? Coolant is however at normal level and engine's not over heating? What do you guys think? Many thanks in advance.
  7. Hi all, Was looking around the engine bay the other day and found this star shape like piece of rubber tubing to the right side of the engine. What is it and should it be attached to something? Many thanks.
  8. Thanks guys, I've checked for intermix contamination, and the oil filler tube/cap was as clean as a whistle as was the coolant tank, NO signs of a mayo like substance! (I'm familiar with this as I've had an engine replacement about 2 years or 12,000 miles ago) I have the car booked into my friends garage, but he cant check it until the 12th of June. I think I'll run a System pressure test and Run a cylinder leak down test. Will keep you's posted. In the mean time I'm off to Malta for a 5 day vacation. So I'm going to try and not worry about it James
  9. Hi all Yes an other Low Coolant problem topic! A few days ago I posted a topic about overfilling my Coolant Tank when I noticed the coolant to be somewhat on the low side. No big deal so I did a top up, but ended up overfilling. I was worried as to this causing some problems but have been assured it's no big deal. Ok so now today after been parked in the garage for 8 days I decided to go for a spin, but before I did or even started the engine I checked the coolant level! and it seem pretty empty almost dry (see pictures) I topped up with just some still bottle drinking water (had no spare anti-freeze at my home) And went for a spin then checked again coolant level after the engine had cooled down and to my surprise there was no drop in the coolant level at all? So my questions are: 1. What are the main coolant loss problem area's 2. If parked for long time can the coolant evaporate 3. What would you guys check. P.s. 9 months ago (or 5000 miles ago) I replaced for new these parts. WATER TANK RESERVIOR 996 2001 99610615703 WATER HOSE 996 99610625055 WATER HOSE TANK OVER FLOW 996 99610629704 James.
  10. Cheers CosmosC4S I will check them rubber stoppers, sounds very possible. Thanks
  11. Ok cool, I wont worry then, I can happily enjoy to drive it then. Thanks guys you's have put me an ease. James
  12. Hi again all. Today I took my 996 out for a spin. Before I did I checked the coolant level and noticed it was just above the MIN mark. So I decided to top the coolant up with 1.A full bottle of Redline WaterWetter and 2.Some distilled bottled drinking water. No sooner did I pour in the bottled water about 500ml or less and the tank was overfilled!!! The level is just above the word MAX (yes I know before anyone say's it, it's marked MAX for a reason :) ) This maybe was stupid of me, but I thought I was at least capable of toping up my coolant? So the questions that are worrying me, are: 1.Is there a coolant overflow pipe 2.Will the excess coolant drain itself via this overflow pipe 3.Will I now have to purge the tank to eliminate any air bubbles in the system 4.Will this cause any serious problem for the car, can I drive it? Many thanks guys, in advance. James
  13. Cheers, Will do, I'll check it out, video sounds helpful. Many thanks Loren
  14. Hi all, My bumper on the left side does not align perfectly with the bonnet, like on the right side! It looks like the bumper has drooped down slightly on this side? Any ideas on how I can adjust the bumper or bonnet fix this? Its not that noticeable, but to me it is! What do you's all think? see pic attached. Thanks James
  15. I had the same problem in my C4 about a year ago, same symptoms. There is a few fix's. 1.Check your heat shields that there not in contact with anything that could cause the noise and all the exhaust brackets, make sure none have come lose. 2.If your sure it's the muffler! you can cut it open and weld the lose piece of metal. (but this fix can cause more problems, so I would not unless your a real good welder) 2.If it's the cat the only solution is to change the cat. 3.Change your whole exhaust system for a new one (this is what I did) So really I think when it comes to exhaust rattles the only real solution is to change for a new one (after verifying that it is either a brokeing muffler or cat) You cloud try and get a second hand one at a junk yard, but then that one cloud have problems too? I got a nice aftermarket one, but I think (not sure) you can get other aftermarkets exhausts that will work with the PSE button on the dash? James
  16. Theres a few easy visual spot checks to tell the difference between a C4 & C4S 1.The C4S has the Turbos larger air intakes in the front bumper. 2.Wide-body rear wings (60mm or 2.4inch) to be exact. 3.The biggest clue is at the rear where you'll see a large diagonal reflector strip. (which is non illuminated thats a shame really, it would look cool) The C4 has a more subtle body silhouette and is identical to the C2 in appearance other than silver callipers. Also look in the boot area and you'll see if it's a C4 or C4S the boot will be smaller more shallow (about a third) over a C2, this is because of the C4 4-wheel drive system. James
  17. Hi all, The other day I noticed that one of the Litronic bi-zenon bulb's on the passenger side is shining more dull-yellower? Strange because a while back I changed it? and the one on the drivers side is an older bulb but still shines brighter more white! The bulb I use are: Phillips light Bulb H7 D2S Litronic I've taking some pictures but it's more clearer in in person. I actually noticed this while driving behind a car that the reflection of my left bulbs shine on the car in front looked more dull. Are my bulbs on there last legs, do I need to replace them? (ouch it's like €120 for each bulb) Or could it be a fuse issue? Any ideas much appreciate Thanks in advance as always guys James
  18. Ok got ya, the light is actually off at the moment I think it reset itself, (lets hope it stays like that) Cheers Loren James
  19. cheers Loren, As always a fast & thorough reply, I'll have it checked this weekend, But can it do any harm do you think if I drive the car over the next few days until the visit to the garage, as this is the only form of transport for the moment? Any do's & don'ts cheers, James
  20. Well I just got my new Durametric enthusiast kit. Plugged it in and got this: P0430-Porsche fault code 45- cat conversion bank 2 exceeds limit value P1411-Porsche fault code 208- Secondary air injection system cylinder(4-6) Any idea's Is this a serious fault is it ok to drive? Thanks in advance guys.
  21. hey Jp66 On related, but is that the rare silver, red & black Porsche emblem on your bonnet? nice look great.
  22. Cheers Loren, So just because the light has gone or reset itself, does not mean the problem is gone it's still there? So i'm still going to need to do a Durametric test! It's the best and right thing to do I suppose. Thanks
  23. Cel Posted 7 Apr 2010 Hi all So just before I go and buy the Durametric software My CEL light has gone from the display? Does a CEL reset itself after a few ignition on/off cycles? or is the bulb just burnt out :) Thanks
