  1. Hi all,

I dropped my key last night, & find that the remote does not work now,

well just the light it flash's red when pressed?

I've tried everything from taking out the battery & reversing it around for 10 seconds,

to inserting the key into the ignition and pressing the remote button,

(as Porsche center said to do) and noting?

Any other solutions anybody, I find it hard to believe, that dropping a car key

worth over €200 on the ground breaks it, and I don't really want to buy a new key,

only got this key back in january 08.

    Thanks in advance guy's.

  2. Well guys its been a while since my last (Confession & Post)

To keep you's up to date on my 996, after nearly 6 months in the garage & (fighting with the garage)

we have both come to the concluetion that it's the only option, yep it needs a new motor

Was in touch with Auto Farm UK (nice guys) and they have a reconditioned engine

ready & waiting for shipment to Dublin. (in part exchange for my old engine)

But before it's shipped... I have a few Questions? to ask all you guys (this site never fails in helping me) :D

So thank you all in advance to everyone who takes time out to help answer my Q's. Cheers guy's

    1. How long does it take to install a 996 engine? Because Q,2

    2. I'm planning a Euro Road Trip in July nearly 6000 miles!

(is it a bad idea to go in a 911 witch just got a new engine installed,

I wont be able to change the oil in the first 1000 miles or at all)

    3. The garage say it's up to me if I want them to reset the clock on the car to 00000 miles? because

it is in effect a new engine? (the old has around 64,000 miles) not to sure if it's right to do this?

But Auto Farm will be stamping the Log book to say this & it will have a different engine number?

And thats it, for the moment, will keep you's all posted.

    Thanks again for your reply's

  3. I was wondering if there was anything on the forum about nitrous oxide,

and well sure thing there was, I know this topic is old now, but I just have to reply.

If you learn a bit about the Porsche 911 there's one thing everybody knows & thats the

996 Cracked Cylinder Heads syndrome problem.

So would you really want to fit a nitrous oxide (NOS) kit to a car with a habit for

    Cracked Cylinder Heads....

I was on You Tube and looking at guy's in there Dressed Up TIN OF BEAN boyracer cars,

    like Toyota Supra's,EVO's & Subaru Impreza's

(which are all good fast cars that would in the rear view mirror scare most).

They where joy racing over taking & leaving for dust the likes of Lamborghini Ferraies & Porsche's. Theses for sure had Nitrous Oxide on board.

I'm not against NOS cars (I think it's pretty cool & Impressive)

But if you have a NOS kit car & out run a car that does not, thats just CHEATING.

  4. If you have a crack in just the Cylinder Head,& not the Block!

is it possible to fix just the Cylinder Head without having to replace the engine?

& if so, what is it thats done???

Because the dearler who I got my 996 from said, that yes I was right that the car does have

Cylinder problems, & that because the car is not over heating, or smoking that it's more probably the

Cylinder Head & NOT the Cylinder Block. That the car needs just a new Cylinder Head

about €3000 & one week in garage. Is this right??? & can this be done successfully.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks guys

  5. After having a Auto tip. Boxster for some time, I always made note of when the car choose to change up/down

& found that the car would be in 5th gear @ around 40mph (this is not when putting the foot down)

this is in city centre driving... It would change between 2000/3000 rpm

It would work it's way thu, gear quite fast.

So now in my 996 man. I think I have the habit to change gear @ around 3000 rpm (very eco friendly indeed)

But sometimes just sometimes when there's no cop's on bike's around (I think screw the environment)

  6. Yeah go for it...

I made a similer post a while back. (peperation for euro road trip)

I did before a euro trip 3000+mile in just 8 days from Ireland to Poland back in july 07

in my (00) Boxster had to cut the trip short because of car problems.

But this year I plan to make the same trip in my (01) 996 C4 cab,

this time from Ireland to Poland to Russa to France around 6000++miles

Only thing having again some car trouble Oil/Warter mix! so we will see.

What's the point in having a nice car like these if you can't drive & enjoy them

When the sun is out the roof is down B)

  7. Thanks guys for your reply's

Jee what is a Leak down test?

Flushing out both the oil system and coolant system, (to see if you have any intermixing problems)

seems tempting but I think it has already been done, I will anyway mention it...

God I just can imagine how you guys felt when you here that you need a new engine, I've been told but just don't

want to believe it, & am trying all other options first.

I don't know about in the US but in Ireland a new 911 engine cost about €24,000 (inl, fit) that's around $35,000

Thanks I still have the warranty, this is maybe why the dealer is not answering the phone...

  8. Hi all

This is a follow up post from my last one ( A picture is worth a thousand words)

Well had my 996 checked out by PCI & also by a very respected indy.

PCI said that the mixing problem could be, due to an Oil Cooler problem,

it might need a new Oil Cooler unit? & the indy say's that it is for sure a "Cylinder Head Problem"

That it does not need a new Oil Cooler unit because it looks very NEW?

So of I go back to the dealer where I got the car (whit my reports) & he's not happy & said...

There was a new Oil Cooler unit put into the car, (Me,so it's not that) & that if there is no smoke & if the engine is not

over heating that it's NOT a Cylinder Head Problem, that the fluids just needs to be bleed from the engine,

that it's condensation in the system????

So I need some Porsche Forum HELP & ADVICE, what do you guys all think?

Does the engine always have to be, over heating & have blue smoke, to say it has a Cylinder Head Problem, (which my 996 does NOT have)

or is Oil & Coolant mix enough to suggest that's its the the beginning of a Cylinder Head Problem????

    Thanks

  9. Well guy's I just drove home from work tonight,

& wow I forgot all the problems & argument I've had with my beloved 996,

she drove so well,so responsive, & the sound well she sounded so'ooo sweet,

Some guy even took a picture of the car in traffic, 2nd time this week :)

I really do hope that it's just the oil cooler seals that have failed, & not a cracked cylinder! wishful thinking,

because deep down inside I don't want to let her go... it's an unfaithful love affair :)

& so if I dont get to keep her, what should I get? if not a boring Merc, SL350 what then.

I cant think of anything else, the 911 is what I wanted, that or a Lamborghini, & thats not one for the super market car park...

  10. Well guys have the car booked into Porsche for a check up on Mon next, but think its maybe pointless,

I think they are just going to tell me what i all ready know, & give me a report.

So I will bring it back to the garage where I got the car 4 months ago.

It's like this, I bought the car 4 months ago for €70k with 66400 miles and a (3 months 6000 miles warranty)

Then less than 650 miles & 4 months later BANG the engine's gone...

    Was I cheated...

I'm really dishearten with Porsches all together, back in Feb 07 I got my first Porsche a Boxster

which was noting but trouble always in the garage, had it for only 6 months, then I decide to get the big daddy,

the icon 911, & it dies after 60k something miles, rubbish, these cars are only made for the weekend, I dont care what,

everybody say they are NOT everyday sports cars, & they are NOT of a good Quality build (for a German car)...

So now I will have to get a another car & as much as it hurts me to say it I dont think it will be a Porsche,

I'm looking at a 2003/2004 Black Merc. SL350 boring, I know. I would love to get an other beautifully Porsche but I just dont think

people can trust them, they will only break your heart, (bit like women)

Plus I'm too embarrassed to tell my friends I got a 3rd Porsche in 1 year...

So there I said it... I will keep you's all informed of the situation...

  11. Thanks

But I think I'm not very good at this, I still

cant figure it out how to post pictures,

Do I have to become a Contributing Member to post pictures???

No you do not have to be a Contributing Member.

At the bottom of a new post you will see a Browse button. Click that button and find the image you want to upload.

Once selected - use the Upload button to actually upload the image to the site here.

Then you can use the Manage Current Attachments (drop down list) to add the image to exact location that oyu want it in the message (use the + sign to add it).

Likewise you use the X sign to remove an image.

If you do not use the plus sign to add the image it will still show up - it will just be at the end of your message.

Just realised that if I want to upload photos I have to use a PC & NOT a APPLE MAC like I do,

That sucks but good job I have both :)

Many thanks Loren for your help....

    Sorry for keep on asking...

  12. Hi all, well just got the 996 back from PCI after they fixed fuel hose...

(Story in old post, Porsche Ireland what a joke)

Anyway got the car back from them on Friday & on Saturday, the Warning light started to Flash.

I hope the problem is what it says in the manual (engine-compartment blower failed)

& NOT what I think it is... Because I don't think PCI will want to fix this problem for free :)

So here are some photos, can any of you guys take a guess? What do you all think?

    Many thanks...

  13. Hi all.

Well the time is near to start getting organised.

In July I will be going on my second Europe Road trip

    in my 996 C4 Cab. 6sp.

And I’m wondering if you guy’s can give me your advice on things I should

check out and do to my 996 before I go!

The trip will involve me and the girlfriend Driving from Starting point: Dublin Ireland to the ferry in Wexford Ireland to Cherbourg France 17 hours overnight crossing. then driving to Suwalki Poland to Kaliningrad Russia to Montpellier France then back to Cherbourg France to ferry back to Ireland

Of course stopping along the way to see what there is to be seen...

(Ireland to France to Poland to Russia to France, back to Ireland)

Just over 6000 miles I think? (maybe more) all in 3 weeks I’m not afraid to add mile to

my 996 these are beautiful machines and its a pleasure to drive them in the sun with the roof down on the open road, it’s sometimes the only time

    we get to experience them.

Have a super sat nav Gamin 660 saved me last time I tried to do this trip July 2007. around 2870 miles in 7 days...

I did it in my Y2000 986 Boxster tip. I started to have car trouble just near Paris France the car started to make a loud clicking noise,

(garage said is was a water pump?) I got just to Wroclaw Poland and had to turn back again. It’s amazing how far you can drive in a short amount of the time I did Paris France to Wroclaw Poland

    in 12 hours 43 min

So this time I want to make sure I’ll get no nasty surprise from my 911

    any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

Will be posting pictures of the car soon...
