  1. I have the complete "Cool" orange look lights... Headlamps, corners, side markers and rear tail lights. I am selling all on ebay soon. You may want to look into it. or make me an offer 408 888 1639.
  2. 1. As long as you have the same number of gears you should be ok. 5 vs 6 speed. (non-S Vs S). 2. ebay, sunset imports(dealer), brandywine(delear). You should be paying anywhere from 150-250. I paid 160 for aluminium for my 1997.
  3. Be sure to check the forum for the torque on the spark plugs. When I did mine (10 days ago) the DIY marked 22 lb/ft the Spark plug data (Bosch 2 tip) had a specification of 19 lb/ft. I did mine at 20-21. I understand this is a very delicate process of you over torque. Also the tools are available at snap on. I paid more for snap on but you can buy cheap at any place. search for this topic: good spark plugs, your opinion needed
  4. The other day I changed my oil and filter and I saw what 87k miles can accumulate in dust, dirt and others underneath my car. Lots of dirt... From my days in the ranch (Mexico) I remember we used what we call "white gasoline" sprayed on the motor (Yes the motors were cooled down before this) we let it sit for some minutes then a mild mix of soft soap, then rinsed with water and off we were with a very nice clean pickup truck motor under the hood. But on a Porsche (Boxster)... what is the best way to clean it and where can you get it done? Pricing? Hope you can help.
  5. :welcome: Thanks for looking and please vote! Hi please take a moment and answer the question above. I am interested in seeing how many times per year a Porsche owner lifts his/her car. Does not matter what car you drive. first 3 options are on a lift... last 3 options are not on a lift. Thanks for voting!!!
  6. go to a GOOD alignment shop [Custom Alignment in Bay Area] have them check it for you. What I found to be my problem aside from old tires and bad balancing...was the control arms. I had mine replaced after 86k and the car feels so nice, no vibration. custom alignment 650 961 3938 $100 front $100 back for alignment...~$56 for balancing all 4
  7. Thanks got the 07 for $227 each. First quote was 301+tax... Brandywine came close but not as low as Sunset imports. Thanks Renntech!
  8. I have just changed the spark plugs on my '97. Peter at Stevens Creek did not recommend the 4 tip (bosch). I used the 2 tip from Bosche ($3.99 at AutoZone). I could not find the Beru one. You will need 2 tools from snap on and a torque wrench 1. S9706KA Sparl Plug Socket $26.79 2. Fxw4 extension (4 inch) $21.50 3. torque wrench ~$75 at orchard (Craftsman) Toolpants and others have posted more info on the following post: Spark Plug Talk
  9. Hi I am needing to change the Arm, Lwr Control R & L. I have contacted several sources and I have 3 differnet parts. 996-341-053 -16 996-341-053 -14 996-341-053 -07 I understand that these are all the same part. Different versions being -16 the latest. My question is what is the difference on these? materials changed?
  10. I did my Oil Change last weekend. 9.5 quarts of Mobile 0W-40 ($4.99/ea @ Kragen) and the dash oil marker is shy 2 lines of the high mark 3 lines total to the full. If I check the dipstick it is past the low and the high...overfill? any ideas? Filter was changed Boxster 2.5L 1997 5 Speed
  11. This is cool. Now I need a work on cars day with 24hours for the long list of things I want to do...one more added...
  12. Oil change...and how much oil needed... I have read a 2003 owner manual that states 8 litres without changing the filter. 8.25 liters changing the filter. When performing a oil change, What is the Oil capacity/need for a 1997 2.5L 986?
  13. You could always get a mexican wife... she can have dual citizenship and ...oh wait.. she would own the car... never mind... ;-) .
  14. I hope this is not news to anyone on this forum. Today I decided to dissasemble the front bumper and get to clean the radiators... See what I found... Instructions... Enjoy (fixed link- Loren)
  15. Yes. It is behind your spare wheel in the front trunk.
  16. I went to the dealer to get my oil filter and I got the following: 996-107-225-53 Oil filter inser... 996-123-106-30 alum seal ring.... They did not give me the Oil filter Q128/ 996 107 020 53 Can anyone confirm this is ok? Car: Box 2.5L 1997
  17. Is there a DIY document for the air filter change? I am about to perform this next weekend. Thanks.
  18. For now I think I can do the crawling under the car... How much are the arms for the boxster? is it something that can be changed on the lift? or is a different lift needed?
  19. Ok now how do I delete this embarrasing topic? oh well did I mention I drive a pick up truck in my ranch in Mexico?
  20. I have a S=stuttgart its 7 years old... only problems seen were some roof issues (motor), airbag (changed seatbelts) and again I have the light today, also the ignition switch... it runs very, very nice. So i would give S a thumbs up. I have no other experience on U's.
  21. Excuse my ignorance... But there must be a different compartment for the differential oil then the transmission oil compartment. I have the transmission oil instructions. Now I need the differential.
  22. Here I go again... I guess I am bored and thank goodness I have an old car where I can get busy on... I am looking at changing the differential oil. I am not sure I need to but the car has been rolling for a while and I would preffer to not overlook this. Is there a DIY on this for a 2.5L 97 boxster? (Could not find any post on this Topic on Boxster forums)
  23. Digit 11 on your VIN code either has a S= Stuttgart or a U=Uusikaupunki
  24. Tirerack.com has them for under $500 including shipping...
