  1. Update: I found a fuse diagram and checked them, and switched them to double check - it is not the fuse (they checked out okay) Am I in bigger trouble than I thought here? There were no strange sounds when I operated the seat this morning, I just went to move it back to it's original position and I get no power. Any advice would be great - Please and thanks.
  2. I was figuring on it being a fuse - I was also hoping for a fuse chart on the back of the panel - but I don't see anything. Might someone have a jpeg of the chart available? (I just downloaded the manual and I don't see a chart there either) Please and thanks!
  3. Good Morning, It is pretty cold out here today and I just went into the car to get it ready for a drive today. I started her up and was going to get out when I dropped my phone in the seat. I jumped out and used the switch to move the seat forward to reach in and grab my phone from under the seat. Well I got my phone out, but when I went to move the seat back - nothing - no power noises, none of the switches are doing any adjustment. What did I do now? Please and thanks.....
  4. Thanks Loren, Would you advise not to run the car until then judging by my description? After the incident, I didn't notice any other peculiarities - and the smell was only detected when I got out of the car (as in, not overpoweringly strong) I have a 300 mile pleasure cruise that starts tomorrow that - well you know - I had visions of the top down and having fun! Thanks...
  5. Good Morning, Out for my "at least once a week" run in the car (2000.996 convertible) and something strange happened. Nice day, a little cool though, started with the top down - about a half hour later, decided it was getting a little too cool and pulled into a country driveway to do the top up. I pull out (in reverse) to continue on this great road, slow down to shift into first to go forward, when the engine revs up to redline all on its own! I just changed the pedals a month ago to aluminum, so I thought maybe they got tied up with the carpet or something - gave the floormat a little jiggle to get it completely out of the way and carried on. Thought everything was back to normal and did my drive an then carried on home. When I parked the car and got out though - I'd swear I could smell the clutch (and this was a couple of hours after the incident) Any ideas? Thanks.....
  6. Great - I'll get in there latter this evening.... Thanks Very Much.
  7. Thanks for the advice - that was actually the first thing I checked, as I figured that might be the weak link too. The connection is fine though - and then after thinking some more, I thought it probably wasn't the weak link as it stops in the same position every time - well, at least it is consistent! Thanks....
  8. 2000 996 -and I took the SmartTop module off when it buggered things up last time (a couple of months ago) $300.00 down the drain on that one....
  9. Hey there, Okay, this just started the other day - the convertible top starts the cycle, everything looks and sounds fine, the clamshell opens without hesitation - it unhooks and goes through the motion without any hiccups - until the top is i the vertical position - then it just stops abruptly. I put it back down and try again - it does the same thing - the only way it will finish the cycle is if I leave it for a couple of minutes in the half down position, then finish the cycle - it works like it should - not shaky or strange movements at all, it's just like it was interrupted halfway and now it is ready to continue (like a "don't rush me, I just needed a breather!") Any advice without taking it back for a couple hundred dollar diagnostic.... Please and thanks - As Always! P.S. Hope everyone is having a great summer with their Porsche toys!
  10. Okay, I waited for the Bridgestones to come in and I'm glad I did. Took it out for a pretty good run this afternoon (maybe 50 miles) after getting the tires done this morning - what a difference from the junk that was on the car! Lots more confidence in throwing the car around - not of the "about to break free" feeling I was getting used to. As well, my K&N Intake kit was at the house when I got home - my lucky day! I installed it after dinner and went out for another little run (maybe 20 miles this time) and the car sounded and felt great! Doubt it adds the 20 or so horse that is rumored, but it adds a little more jam that's for sure.....
  11. Well, As it turn out - the tires I wanted are not in stock until next week which doesn't give me enough time to beat them up a bit. I am now going with Pirelli PZero Nero's instead. My question is - has anyone run these and, if so, what's your take on them? Please and thanks.
  12. Okay, So I went to the local guy and his prices do seem pretty good - I ordered Bridgestone 050 Pole Positions and he went with $1400.00 (Canadian) installed, and everything - taxes in. I thought that was fair - all things considered.....
  13. Wow - 500 miles - that's a little more than I thought would be needed (I was hoping for a few hundred) Thanks for the info - much appreciated!
  14. Hey there, I talked to a couple of friends and they all say go see this guy in town for the best price (we'll see) I'm going to get a price from tirerack and see if he'll match it - I'm looking for a set of Michelins to put on though (I'm thinking Pilot Sports) I have a track day coming up in a couple of weeks so I wanted to have some fresh rubber to beat up! Fingers crossed.....
  15. Thanks for the info guys - enjoy the rest of the weekend!
  16. Hey there, Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to purchase Michelins or Yokohamas for the 996 without getting totally robbed? I am in the Toronto, Ontario (Canada) area and would prefer local (for installation reasons) but will go online if someone has a super secret spot for the deals! Thanks Very Much (as usual!) and Have a Great Weekend....
  17. Hey there, Did you ever go ahead and do this by any chance? Just this afternoon, I had the back panel out doing some stuff with the top mechanism, and I looked at the space you're describing and thought the very same thing... I think I'm going to take it over to my stereo guy and see what he has to say about it. Just curious if it worked for you. Thanks.
  18. Okay, I took apart the back seat panel and took out the clamshell opening hex key. I opened the hatch, unplugged the wires for the top, and got at the Smarttop module. I removed it and put it back together and tested the top. It worked completely to the point of the clamshell still being opened (which I figured was due to my manually opening it) I lowered the clamshell with the hex key to the point of it "looking" closed. When I cycled the top again it still wouldn't function properly so I thought that maybe it had to be "fine tuned". I got back in there and turned the hex key about a quarter turn and it closed completely - but now the threads felt stripped! (it felt like it had no resistance now - when prior it needed a little jam to get it turning) I turned the bolt to remove it and hopefully get a look at the damage - and it came out without any strange marks on it at all... Any clue as to what might be going on? The top doesn't cycle through completely now and I think it might be time for a service call...... Please help if possible. Thanks.
  19. Will do - I'l keep my fingers crossed that the module is indeed the issue - my only problem now (and I had a quick look through the forums - maybe not a good enough look though) is how to take the top down manually if the power is not working. Would love some direction (or a point in the right direction!) Please and thanks - as usual!
  20. Spoke too soon on the magical repair! I got in for my Sunday drive just now and went to put the top down - from the compartment it makes a distinct on/off click noise (2 clicks) and then the dash flashes 3 quick times and then off for the cabrio light. Any suggestions would be most apprectiated! Please and thanks....
  21. It felt like a 5 minute major - but when it stopped raining here this afternoon, I tried it again and it worked just the way it should (weird). Almost like it was a bad dream..... Thanks and Have a Good Weekend!
  22. Hey there, Okay, I did a dumb thing to start with - I took the cab through the automated car wash (I don't know what got into me!) - okay then... I did another dumb thing! As I was coming out and leaving the car wash, I did the "auto top down" sequence (care of a SmartTop unit since she's a 2000) and started to drive away. Okay, I did a third dumb thing and went over 45 km/h (which I'm usually pretty good about going slow when the top is doing its thing) and of course it stopped mid sequence. I pulled over and tried to finish getting the top down and it made a funny noise (some clicking) and wouldn't completely close. I put the top back up to get her home and now it won't even start the "top down" sequence - the flashing light on the dash is doing it's warning dance... What have I done this time! Please and thanks as always....
  23. I got the car back today and I thought I'd better update, just for the record.... The mechanic said he went over everything he could in the rear end and looked high and low for the source of the noise, and as a last ditch effort, he took the new flyweel off and checked it - and sure enough, it came from Porsche defective. I asked him how often something like that happens and he said maybe once a year he gets a bad factory part. "It was just bad this time since it was such a labout intensive job - no refund from Porsche on that..." Thanks.
