  1. I don't mind you asking at all... I want to do some maintenance is all, maybe prevent a failure. I think of the "lifetime" trans fluid the same way I think of the lifetime coolant. The way I see it, the car is almost 9 years old and has 64000 km. on the clock. Probably a good idea to change the fluid. Am I being ridiculous? Cheers Mike
  2. Thanks Paul. I have seen that DIY article. It doesn't mention a full fluid change...just a filter and pan gasket. Thanks. Mike
  3. Hello...could someone PLEASE direct me to a site or to a technical service manual or something similar that explains how to change ALL of the fluid in a tiptronic transmission? I need to learn how to change the fluid in the torque converter and differential. I've searched...and can't find what I need. Cheers Mike
  4. Thanks...I re-read that article and it's unclear how he got 7 quarts out of the trans. If it's just from draining the pan and replacing the filter...I will be happy!!! Cheers
  5. Hello all.. I've read as much as possible in the archives about DIY Tip service. Bentley manual says 3.5 litres for a fluid and filter change. I'd like to change as much of the fluid as possible. Loren commented that it usually takes 7 litres. Can I get 7 litres out of my transmission if I'm doing it myself? Or does this require a machine like the ones in the Fast Lube places? BTW, 2000S Tip. Any thoughts? Loren? Cheers Mike
  6. I had the EXACT same problem with my 2000 S. I added 5mm spacers but that didn't make any difference! I'll be switching back to the 9 inch wheels, I can't deal with driveability problems. Too bad because those Sport Classic 2's look great. Cheers
  7. Yup...I've already done that and it looks good. No sign of rubbing anywhere. I had the car on a lift so I was able to have a good look. This noise did not happen with the factory 18X9"s. Thanks.
  8. Hello all... I've just installed 18X10 rear wheels with the correct offset. Now,when I hit a dip in the road,I get a strange noise from the left rear. It sounds like a cross between a clunk and a rub. Don't know how else to describe it!!! I tried 5mm spacers but noise is still there. Doesn't happen on a sharp bump on the road, only on a dip. I can't for the life of me see any signs of tire rub,but that's kind of what it sound like. Car is a 2000 S. Any suggestions? Cheers Mike
  9. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. TP...I'd love to see that dvd. Maurice...good idea about the measurements...I'll do that. Got frustrated and took the hardtop off... I'll fight with it later! Cheers Mike
  10. Thanks for the suggestions. I was very careful to install the spinlocks correctly. They are actually labeled L and R. The top is in perfect condition as is the car. That being said it's possible that something is out of whack causing the top to fit poorly. I'm getting frustrated and may just sell the thing. Interestingly, the guy I bought the top from said it fit perfectly on his car. I may actually try the dealership ...just don't know what else to do. Thanks again.
  11. Hi all... Still trying to properly adjust my newly acquired hardtop on my 2000S. I've tried every combination of loosening and tightening, pushing and pulling that I can think of and I'm still not happy. The passenger side fits perfectly. On the driver's side the front of the top is easily 15mm away from lining up with the front of the quarter panel. This causes wind and water leaks at the back of the door window, as the seal on the top doesn't fit snuggly to the glass. I hope I'm explaining this in a way that's understandable!! Anyway...I just can't see how I'll ever get that much movement to get it to fit. I guess it's possible that the top or the car is twisted, but I highly doubt it's the car. Am I missing something? Any and all suggestions are really appreciated. Cheers Mike
  12. Hey everyone...thanks for the responses. Update...I loosened completely the adjusting mechanism on the driver's side, and after some persuading, I finally got that side locked. It doesn't line up very well with the front edge of the quater panel. It appears that the whole top needs to go forward about 1/2 inch...maybe a little less. The passenger side lines up perfectly. My fear is that the window won't seal properly. Any ideas??? Cheers Mike
  13. Hello.. Just got a hardtop for my Boxster and can't get the driver's side seated and locked. It seems that the pin that goes into the spinlock will not go down far enough to allow me to turn the handle to lock the top. Passenger side is fine. I just can't seem to see what could be preventing the pin from dropping into place. Any and all help appreciated. I have searched here and on 986forum.com but can't find a solution. Cheers Mike
  14. Hey wvicary... Nice to see another Reginan on Renntech. I lived there for a long time but I had to move to Calagry 10 years ago. I still have lots of family there and visit often. Just wanted to say "hi". Cheers
  15. Thanks...that's great information and FAST!!! Cheers One more question Loren...if you don't mind. My local dealer says the MAF needs to be replaced but the car runs and starts perfectly, at all times as far as I can tell. I'm a little overwhelmed by using the search method right now!! Anything else I can check first...to kill the CEL? Cheers.
  16. Thanks...that's great information and FAST!!! Cheers
  17. Thanks Loren... So, there is only one choice for the MAF sensor then? I called the dealershipand they asked for the VIN. Then they said they wouldn't know what it had until they pulled the old one out. Have you heard of this before? Cheers Mike
  18. Hello... I have a 2000 Boxster S,Tiptronic,Canadian car. I need to replace the Maf sensor but there seems to be a couple of different types. E gas is different from non e gas. E gas is option M620. Is it safe to say that if I don't have that option listed on the underhood label, then I don't have egas and that would lead me to the correct Maf sensor? Is it that simple? Cheers Mike
  19. Loren...thanks for that. And for the radio code you gave me a couple of weeks ago!!! Cheers
  20. Hello... I need to replace the spoiler motor on my 2001 Boxster S. Does anyone know if the motor can be replaced without totally dismantling the complete spoiler transport mechanism? Does the spoiler itself need to come off? I'm hoping there is someone who has done this that can give me some advice. Any and all help is much appreciated!!! Cheers
  21. "No warranty on warranty". OK, let me get this straight. Let's say I have a new Boxster and the crankshaft is replaced under warranty. 2 weeks later, the same problem reoccurs and the crankshaft needs to be replaced again. Are you telling me that I am on the hook for this repair??? I don't think so! I really think a negotiated settlement should be reached here. Just my 2 cents.
  22. Hi Loren... 2001 Boxster S, CDR220, type 4362 X5013191 47/98 Thanks in advance! Mike
