  1. Just be patient and buy another car when the time is right. I'm not even upside down in my 997.1 C4S w/ GT3 body kit and I'm not even thinking about getting anything else... just yet. I believe that with Porsche, you need to wait until there's enough of a change to where you will appreciate your next purchase. My next Porsche will be a NEXT Generation Turbo. That car will be different enough from my car to where I will feel like I made a true jump and moved up in the world. I was thinking about purschasing a 997.1 Turbo but other than the hp, it's basically a faster C4S. Just be happy with your purschase and pay it off. When I get my 991/998 turbo, I'm keeping the paid for 997.1 C4S and turning it into a track car. I'm going to lighten that baby up enjoy tossing her around. Maybe you should take my route.
  2. If I were you, I'd just hang out at the dealership and find about 3 -4 guys who want to go driving on the weekend. That's always free.
  3. But there is a dealer installed rear wing for the 99 that looks almost exactly like this. Look for the "997 Aero Kit" on Google and you'll see what I'm talking about.
  4. It's the roads. Your tires are simply following the road grooves. It happens with high performance tires. They are very sensitive to the conditions of the road. That's why driving an Accord seems easier than driving a Porsche.
  5. Thanks for your input Wanye. I would love to see your dyno's. Also, did you do a "before" dyno when your car was stock? Thanks, Johnny
  6. I want more powa from my beloved 2006 997 C4S. I want to hit 400 hp. What's the cheapest combo to do this, or is there a one stop shop to get to 400+? I keep hearing about a mystical "chip" that is suppose to do this. It's this a myth or is it real? Has anyone used a "chip" or am I just dreaming? And if not a chip, then what? Exhaust modification? Air filter? SC? Turbo? CAI?
  7. I have given up on this project. Too much money. I'm going to go with the Mobridgeusa parts to add XM, bluetooth, and ipod connection to the car. I will spend the extra money on power upgrades. I want to get my car to the 400 hp mark.
  8. $18,000 is a lot of money for 26 additional hp. I think that I would pass on that offer.
  9. Ok, I went to the dealership yesterday and spoke with the people from the parts department. They informed me that the new Navi set up is really different from the old set up because the new Navi is hard drive while the 997.1 is DVD based. Also, there's a lot of additional wiring required for the XM connection, which is a must because of the Navi-Traffic. They still don't have prices so I am still waiting. But it looks like I'm going to have to gut the entire middle Navi screen and purchase the new touchscreen one.
  10. I believe it's totally not worth it to do an oil change at the dealership. Or at a quick lube place. If you think they're torquing every fastern to spec, think again. If you think they're putting exactly the fractional amount oil in, instead of overfilling to the next even liter, think again. If you think that they're inspecting everything on the service checklist, think again. You have one car to do, and you've marked off the whole afternoon. The more they can do, the more money they make. And oil changes aren't done by the most experienced tech in the shop either. 1. Download the service checklist from here. 2. Go to Harbor Freight, and for less than $150 you can get a jack, chocks, jack stands, metric sockets, a hex socket, a torque wrench, an oil filter wrench, and a 15 qt oil drain pan. 3. Go to an auto parts store and buy 10 qts of oil, for about $60. 4. Get online and buy the oil filter and crush ring. While you're at it, get a charcoal cabin filter and an engine air filter too, all for about $100. 5. Buy the Durametric for $250. 6. Do the oil change and change your filters yourself. Take your time, bring your computer to the garage or print the instructions. 7. While there, check things out. Get to know and appreciate the car. Leaks are easy to spot because they're shiny and moist where everything else is matte, dry, and dusty. All told, you've paid about $560 for the first service. You only buy the tools once. The next one will cost you only $160 in consummables. The last dealer quote I got for a 20k service was $750. Even the first DIY results in a financial win. It's not like if I had the dealer do it, I'd be any better off. You better believe I be on the ground retorquing everything and making sure they didn't cross thread things. Upgrade campaigns can be done during warranty work or for harder stuff. With my pair-of-catcher's-mitts sized hands, I've given up on bleeding the clutch, so I'll pay for that. When the suspension arm bushings go, I'll probably pay for that too. Ditto for engine mount, or clutch replacement. The frequency of that type of work, coupled with the difficulty, do not justify the cost or storage space for the tools. But, I've saved more than enough money doing my own oil changes and brakes to shell out every once in a while. This is assuming that you do everything right the first time and don't mess anything up. Not to mention the time you spend to do the work. I make more per hour than I pay the techs so I believe that it's worth it to pay someone else to do the work.
  11. For oil changes? I'm afraid I disagree - perhaps the largest ripoff in the industry. How is it a rip off? You pay them to do a service and they do it. Technically a car wash could be considered the biggest rip off. You pay somepne $30 to put water and soap on your car, take a rag, and move their arms around in a circular motion. Then put more water on your car. I'm sure that the cost for parts for a car wash is less than $3.00. That's a 1000% mark up. Not to mention that this person is probably some dude who walked up and got a job and doesn't know anything about your car, let alone how to properly wash it. And how many times do you get your car washed per year? 20? That's $600 in car washes that you could have done yourself. And car washes are a lot less technical than actually working on your car and a lot less idoit proof. At least the oil accounts for 70% of the cost of an oil change. The other 30% is labor and like I said, I don't mind a certified Porsche tech "looking" at my car once a year just for the heck of it. You never know what they may see while they are under there. An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure. So why would someone take their car to a hand car wash, but feel the need to change their own oil?
  12. I paid $73,900 for my 06 997 C4S with a GT3 Kit in April. The car's retail sticker was $105,000. Noting that the new 997's are going to cost about $4000 more than the older models, my exact car would probably cost around $110,000. I'm not a hp and junkie and am totally happy with my car. These mods, along with a built in radar dector are the only things that I am planning to do to my car. So I'd rather spend ~$5000 than pay an extra $40,000 for basically the same car.
  13. I already have the Bose upgrade so I doubt it. I do have a budget so this is not going to be a bottomless pit for me. I am aiming at spending less than $5000 for the upgrade. If I can't get it for less than that, then I'm bailing and will just post what is needed and the cost for everything on this thread.
  14. Perfect. Keep us updated and good luck :D Yea, I am going to go to the dealership this weekend and see if I can get a list and prices of the parts that I'm going to need to do this update. I wouldn't mind getting those LED's either. I wonder how much they will be.
  15. A little birdy told me that....the C4, C4S and Targa 4/4S will not be announced until June 25th for C4/4S and July 28th for the Targa 4/4S, with the US model launch cars being September 20th, C2/C2S and October 25th for the C4/C4S and Targa 4/4S. Why are there separate announcements and launch dates, yet the dates are so close together? Why not just do one big announcement for all C models?
  16. I didn't see a thread about this so I am going to start it. I am a car electronics junkie and the 2009 997's have everything that I was going to go to get done so I have decided to trash my after market job and replace my 2006 997 C4S that already has Navi with the new improved 2009 system that has ipod adapter, XM, Navi with traffic and Bluetooth. I will keep you guys updated on my progress as it happens with pics and let you know all the parts that you will have to buy as well as the cost to have it done at the dealer. If anyone else is interested in this mod update, please post here so we can have a unified informational outlet for this big update. Thanks!
  17. Not to sound snobby or anything, but I wouldn't trust those guys with my car. I have seen them mess up Accords. You paid all that money for your car and you only have to pay for an oil change once every 10,000 - 12,000 miles. Why not pay a little more and let the professionals do it? Besides, I like for my car to be "looked at" while its up to make sure that everything is going well. The last time I got an oil change, they tightened some loose screws and did some sort of quick fix update for my computer. I believe that it's totally worth it take your car to the dealership.
  18. I was just wondering if the 4's will be seeing these updates in 2009 or will we have to wait until 2010 for them to trickle down. I am asking because when they mentioned pricing, they failed to mention 4 pricing.
  19. Get optioned out car. The GT3 Kit and interior paint alone is over $10,000 in options. PCM is another $3,000. Painted Rims is an extra $250. Plus you have the sports seats which adds an extra $2000 to the price. The car also has HID's, which are an option on the C2S. That's an additional $2000. If the car has Navi, then this is a decent deal. The only thing is that you're creeping into C4S territory. If you want the wider hips and AWD then you can afford it at this price... but the car won't be optioned out like this at $70,000.
  20. It's funny that you mentioned that. I spoke with Eric on Wednesday and we put together a package. It seems very labor intensive since I have to take out and send some parts and replace others. He also said that they don't do the air vents area, which is something that I really wanted done. I'm in the middle. I like the current interior, but I really lust over that red interior. BTW, I picked up the car on Friday and absolutely love it.
  21. I believe that you're right. I will just stick with painting the interior and that's it. I can live with the regular seats. And they are power.
  22. Ok, here's the story. After a lot of looking. I have found my car. a 2006 Manual Transmission Red/ Black Interior C4S with Navi, Chrono, and GT3 Kit with black OEM Rims. It has 15,000 miles. I love the exterior of the car, but the interior has much to be desired. It's nice and very clean, but not like WOW! I would like to paint the interior red in the middle console, the area around the navi, the door handle area, the strip across the passenger seat, and the back of the seats. I also want to change out the basic seats and get the sports seats. I also wanted to know if it's possible to change the interior from non leather to leather? I know that everything else can be done, but I am courious about if anyone has made that change before? The reason I am buying this car is because I am saving like $40k off of a new one and I can't find similar C4S within $10k of the car.
  23. I've driven the C6 but not the Z06 and the car still felt a little loose compared to a 997 C4S. The 997 C4S is probably the most balanced car I have ever driven in my entire life on this earth as I know it today in my existance as a human being.
