  1. :soapbox: I am so pissed off. I was driving the 911 tonight and rubbed the driver's side rear wheel when pulling into a parking lot (to pay the attendant). The rash is about 4' long, on the bead of the rim, just where the tire meets the wheel. Other than replacing the wheel, is there anything I can do to fix this? I was thinking just some Artic Silver touch-up paint, but the wheel will never be the same, and I am fussy. And it's on the driver's side of the car. The wheels are the standard Carrera spoke wheels. Any idea on the cost of a new wheel (part and mount/balance the tire)? Is the dealer my best option if I have to purchase one?

I don't drive the car too much, and forgot that the rear is a bit wider than the front track.

    Thanks guys

  2. So my new 911 has about 1800 miles on the clock and the electronic oil gauge is starting to read about 1/2qt low. I ran into the local auto parts store tonight to pick-up some Mobil1 and was able to find Mobil1 0-W40 and also 5-W40 but the 5-W40 said for turbo diesel trucks on the front of the bottle (this scared me). My car is driven in the State of NJ (weather is above freezing most of the year). What do you guys recommend adding?

    Thanks

  3. Sorry Danyol, was not referring to your 2003 TT X50 (now that's a different story vs. a C6-Z06). However, I believe that PeterC4 asked about a stock 997 Carrera S (355hp). Put that side-by-side with a 505hp Z06 and something bad will happen to the car from the father land :)

Now, some day, if you have the time and we can rent a track, your 03 TT X50 vs. my 700hp Supercharged C5 would be a great time

  4. This greatly depends on how you compare the two cars. As the owner of several Corvettes (including a 2001 Supercharged Coupe with 700HP), IMHO - the 505HP Z06 will eat a Carrera S for breakfast in an all out drag race. Now, it you want to compres the two cars from a handling standpoing, my 2008 Carrera is so much tighter than any of my Corvettes, including the new Z06 I had the liberty to drive. So, sorry to hedge, but the answer is that it depends

  5. I love the Sport-Chrono Package on my 2008 Carrera. I turn it on each time I drive the car. To be honest, the throttle just feels very lazy to me without the SC active. Also, you may want to look at a new 997. The market is very soft right now and dealers are willing to provide deep discounts to move cars. By the time you do the math on a used 911, a new one may make better sense :)

  6. Congrats on finally getting your Porsche. Your story about the 914 brings back memories for me. I was 13 when my dad owned a '74 914 1.8 in Carolina Blue. I learned how to drive the car in an empty parking lot as a young boy. Although the car only had 76hp, it was so cool to drive. I can still remember the VDO gauges and the center stack gauges. Best of luck with the C2.

  7. Hi guys, I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera in Arctic Silver Metallic w/Black leather. The car is well equipped with the Sport Chrono Package Plus, Bi-Xeon Headlights, Bose Surround w/CD-Changer, Heated Front Seats, Self Dimming Mirrors, Colored Porsche Crest Center Caps, Crests in Headrests, Power Seat Package and Porsche Floor Mats, and yes - it's a six speed. Sticker on the car was $82,170.00 and I was able to negotiate $7,600.00 off MSRP.

As a new owner, I have a cople of questions:

    1. How do you set the seat/mirror memory to use the key fobs? I have been trying to do this with no success. I have the key in the car and turned to accessory, I set the seats/mirrors, etc and 1st press the Memory Button and then the #1 Key button for a few seconds. I then adjust the seats and mirrors for testing, lock the car and unlock with the fob - no luck, the memory setting does not stick.

    2. I searched the archives and see alot of posts for rear child car seats for the 997. I have (2) daughters, four years old and tall (about 45lbs) and two years old (about 27lbs). Can anyone recommend the best child car seat and booster seat for the 997? Also, how do you remove the rear seat's leather top to make extra room?

Thanks all, this forum seems very helpful :D
