  1. Hi. I got the above code and started to try to take care of it myself. I tested the system up to a point per the troubleshooting guide (This is part of the diagram that you've provided a couple of times Loren) The air purge inflow tube is free. I blew it out and there was nothing in there. The tank vent is also good. Took it out and it's closed. The cannister shut-off valve is open (I didn't remove it or the wiring, but the car was off. Taking off the two of the three attaching tubes, I blew into one side and got the other side free with air. meaning that it's good as it is in the open position. The next step is to test the charcoal cannister. I don't know how to test this properly as the factory diagram is different than in my car. I also don't have a Porsche system tester 2. I test drove the car this morning after clearing the code and halfway through the specified cold drive cycle/cycling, the check engine light came back on. If someone could help me in diagnosing or testing the charcoal cannister, and how to do the remainder of this test without the system tester, I think I could find the problem. The local dealer was helpful until the second visit and then it seemed like they wanted to be less than helpful. And the amound of stuff that I'd think they should know in terms of system operation makes me wonder how these cars get fixed correctly sometimes. The car: '00 996 cab 5000 miles (not a typo) The car sits and could have had some bad gas in it (fouling the cannister?) but has since been replenished with fresher gas. No repairs other than routine maintenance and the gas cap recall some years back has been performed on it Many thanks in advance, any and all.
