  1. That is weird! I usually do not carry the "big key" with the remote (too big) so I usually use the "spare key" that has no remote. I also have a 2000 Boxster and I do the same with it (use the sapre key) but I never notice that behavior on it!?... The manual talks about about an "Emergency operation" "Unlock the driver's door with the key at the door lock. Open the door and switch the ignition within 10 seconds in order to prevent the alarm system from being trigger". So I assume what they call "emergency operation" is to use the key instead of the remote to unlock the car. I was thinking that I had "enabled" the "emergency operation mode" by doing some cryptic key lock/unlock sequence! JF
  2. I have a 2004 996 and when I unlock the doors using the key in the lock, the alarm goes on after 10s unless I put the key in the ignition and turn it to accessory. When I use my remote to Unlock, I have no issue (the alarm system get deactivated at the same time as the door get unlock) Any idea what is goign one? I know the manual mention that this "might" happen, but they do not say why or how to prevent it? Frenchy
  3. The story changed, apparently they want to know the serial number of my engine. They told me that depending on the engine, they might have to fix something... My engine was repalced, they originally put a rebuild engine (BX) but had issue with it (Vibration issues) they finally gave up trying to fix that problem and put in a new engine instead... From what I understood Atlanta still think that I have a rebuild engine (the one that are subject to the issue...)
  4. I got the same letter. Called Carlsen to find out what it ment. They told me that they want to inspect the vehicule to see if they are ooil leaks, I ask them if they want to check for a failled RMS, they said Yes. Apparenlty if the RMS leaks, they will change it. My car had its shre of RMS leaks, until they put a new engine in it. Frenchy
  5. Are you sure the key is the problem? I got a similar issue and had to change a switch in the ignition. Beside requiring the flexibility of a Cirque du Soleil acrobat it is not that difficult to change.the culprit is a crapy Audi part that is notorious for failling (Jeff can provide you with the part number, it is 50% cheaper is you get it with a Audi part number instead of a Porsche one). By the way, I'm THE flying French man on that board (I do Acro on Citabria when the weather is good, and IFR on Cesna 172 when the weather is not so good...) again Jeff can provide you with a picture ;-) Jean-Francois aka Frenchy
  6. When I got back in my car today, the rear view mirror was haging by the electrical wires (I have a self dimming mirror). What should I use to "glue" it back to the window? Is there a two sided adhesive that I buy from the dealer/Krangen/Pepe Boy that fits just right or I should I just use some epoxy? Jean
  7. Well, it depends on the mass of the yoyo... if the yoyo is made of lead and the stick of bamboo... The kinetic inertia of the yoyo will be greater at the same angular velocity, thus having a higher polar moment than the stick. This bring up to subject of gyroscopic precession, which can be easily felt in front drive car. When a mass angular velocity is changed (accelerated/decelerated) a force perpendicular to the monment of inertia and the rotational plan will be applied to the mass, the effect is a tendency for the rotating mass to tilt... wich explain the "coupling effect" you feel in the steering wheels. or why you need to give right rudder on an aircraft when you accelerate! Jean-who-does-his-smart-***
  8. It is probably just your AC. The AC condenses moisture in the air and when the car is parked it drip on the floor.
  9. Me too i'm sceptical. It does not make sense in term of product positionning to create a boxster with the same power as a 911. This will canibalise sales of the 911 which has much better margin than the Boxster... If they come with a hard top version it will be with the same engine as the curent offering.
  10. I schedule to fly (VFR), but if the weather is as bad as last weekend I will swing by... Might want to install my new seat (with the adaptor that James fabricated me...)
  11. The RMS is located between the engine and the transmission (around the drive shaft) So it is basically right in the middle of the car. it is easy to see, just jack your car and see (touch) if the oil come from the "crack" between the engine and transmission). If it is really on the side, it might be the variocam seal or valve cover seal (there is a thread in this board about someone that did the valve cover "resealing" himself Frenchy
  12. Removing the seat is not difficult. You need a Torx 12 socket (If I remember right) which is probably the most time consuming part of the process (go to Sear and find a Torx socket set)... Simply remove the slider cover on the front with a phillipt screw driver and you will have access to the front bolts. Do not play with the seat height ajustment when the seat is pulled out, or you will have to push really hard to get it leveled. The most challenging part is to disconnect the seat wirering harness. You need to take you time. The connector does not simply "pull out", there is a little lever on the side of the connector than need to be rotated to unlock the connector. BTW, I do not think you can simply "swap" the driver seat with the passenger seat. First all the ajustment controll are on one side of the seat and the seat belt buckle screw on the "interior" side of the car, swaping seat will invert the location... Frenchy P.S. do not turn on the key while the seat is disconnected from the wirering harness, the air bag light will come on if it does not detect the seat belt buckle (i.e. you will need a visit to the dealer to reset that light...)
  13. The dealer had to "flush" the cooling system when they put my replacement engine in my boxster. The bill showed that they've used 10 "unit" (liter/quart?) of that penzotine....
  14. If you do hear a some noise comming from the trunk when you press your key, it is probably the boden cable that is connected to the trunk release mechanism. It might have snapped. Just remove the internal "lock" vover and part of the carpet in you trunk, it is easy to see. I a similar problem... Frenchy
  15. I just saw clips from the "soon to be release" racing sim/game from Microsoft: Forza Game clip It is taken from a demo built, the track show is Laguna Seca.... It is really impressive. The level of details in prety impressive (down to the two cypres trees at the end of the corkscrew). I do not know if the "physic" of the game is going to be good, but this is a going to be a great tool to learn a track (well at least you know what to expect and where the general line is...) Hopefully, Microsoft will put Sears & Thunderhills on the final version :-) Frenchy
  16. I kind of have a different opinion than Henry on the suject, Unless your "slush fund" for fixing the car is big, do not get near the thing. I would said that (from my experience) Porsche are incredibly unreliable... The big problem is due to the engine location, it is very difficult to do anything yourself (unless you have a lift in your garage). Do not under-estimate the RMS problem, this 20$ part will cost you ~800$ to change. This like the Air Mass Sensor are going for ~300$ a pop. If the cable of your retractable top break (which is more likely on pre-2000) and you can't fix it yourself you are going to face a 1500$ for getting it replace. Do not get me wrong, I love the car, it is a great ride, but do not think your are going to save money buy buying a sub 20K$ 1997 boxster.... maintenance will get to you.
  17. Got the seat! It is in my living room and the only thing I can do while I wait for the Brey Kraus stuff is to sit in it and make engine noise... It is less confortable than I expected. I might not be able to keep it as a daily commuter seat.... or I'll definetly need to bring an iron and a board to my office to press my parts/shirts once I get there... Frenchy
  18. Thank for the advises guys I ordered all the seat stuff. I should get it sometime next week. The only thing I'm going to miss is my heated seat.... I came back from the airport late yesterday and it felt very confortable with the "heat" on...
  19. I already have a Pyrothech 6 (5 and a half) points harnest, one thing that I hate with that 6 points is that you sit on the middle strap all the time ( the car is my daily commuter car). I did not think that I could re-use my harnest with a "race seat, one of the goal was to hide the middle starp under the seat when I do not use it... Jean
  20. How do you mount the sub-strap without the bar? Jean
  21. Are you using a "K & N" or similar type of air filter? They are known for contaminating the MAF sensor (did that to mine) Jean
  22. Trygve, AR38070 So beside the Evo seat and the Sparco Slider I need from BK: R-9060 (side mount) R-9041 (slider adaptor) R-9045 (release bar for slider) R-9030 (sub-strap mount bar) Anything missing? Do I need something else to mount the standard belt receptacle on the side of the seat, or the stock stuff will still work? On wheels, what witdth do you recommend, I want to stick to 17" wheels but I'm a bit lost in the different width. I would like to stick to the "stock" spacer, do no want to mess with that... but I do not want to be stock with wheel where there is only one brand of R tire that fit... I would like to fit Vitoracer or Toyos...
  23. Ok, I think I did not express myself clearly (you can blame my French). I'm looking into doing a few autocrosses and would like to install a race seat. I tried the GT3, like it because they are confortable and yet seam to perform their "race" duty of keeping your *** firmly in place. However, I had no idea that these things were so expensive (I honestly was thinking that the cloth version was going for ~500$, not 1600$... I guess the margin on that are really good :-) ). So my question is: Beside the "GT3" seat, is there anything that fit well in a boxster? The seat should enable me to re-install the seat belt buckle (the buckle is fixed to the seat, not the floor... I have Brey-Kraus adaptor for my harnest). I do not want to drill through the floor... Frenchy
