  1. Redline 10-40. Noticeable drop in engine temp when I started using this oil.
  2. 2003 C4S... 30k service question car was in the shop today for service, and I am advised by very good indy that he was only partially able to bleed the brakes. seems he could not loosen all eight bleeder valves on the calipers, only the front outer valves. this means that only the front brakes have been bled. Neither he nor I wanted to risk stripping out the valves during this process. only took about .5 liter to refill the fluid. the brakes feel good and strong. ideas as to what this means and what, if anything, I should do about it would be most welcomed.
  3. some connection is shorting due to heat expansion. tighten everything up... good luck.
  4. sounds to me like you stole this car... post up some pics, and check out the "official C4S" photo thread at 6speedonline.com. and take a deep breath when you check out all the mod possibilities, etc., esp the twin-turbo install that "Boochuk" did with his awesome car. and consider becoming a contributing member here. Renntech is a universe of Porsche info.... as my wife says, the blackhole of P-car nuts. welcome to the C$S group. (typo absolutely intentional.)
  5. I'm posting this after checking through the good info in the recent 60k mile maintenance thread. I'm coming up on 30k and very good local indy will be doing the service. I've checked through the maintenance schedules and know pretty much what's going to be done. Only thing I can't find is a schedule for doing a coolant flush. Is there a recommended schedule somewhere for doing this? If not, is there a general consensus on how often a cooling flush is needed? 2003 C4S. approaching 30k. No issues. Temp is constant at 180 all seasons, all speeds. Thanks in advance...
  6. Hello Wayne, thanks for the response. It is a 1999. I actually took my "valet" key and tried that, nothing. It's like everything comes on, guages, lights...but when I turn the key, it does not even make a click. The one think that bothers me is that before it reached this point, when I would start it, it never did on the first turn on the key. I always had to re position the key and the second time it always started. I would like to tap it to at least get it to my mechanic. He has already ordered the starter, I assume by doing so I cover the ignition switch? What do you mean by "dash issue"...got me a bit worried. Where would the starter selonoid be located? Thanks for your help "dash" issue means it can probably be fixed without having to mess with the engine or anything not attached to the dashboard. the key cylinder replacement sounds like the problem. dont spend any money until this is checked/replaced. good luck..
  7. my understanding is that the air bag light comes on briefly and then immediately goes off.
  8. put a trickle charger on the battery, and I think that's about it...
  9. Is there an easy way to see the stored fault or does it need to go to the doctor? durametric. worth it just to clear the light...
  10. I was actually advised by a PCA driving instructor to always use Chevron gas in my SC, due to the techroline additive. been using chevron ever since. lately I was told that Texaco, owned by chevron, also puts techroline in its gas.
  11. search and you shall find. I think there is a diy on this. If I knew how to do this, I'd tell you... enjoy your new car...
  12. no idea about the window, but the ticking sound comes from the in-dash cd player. I dont know why. I've had this happen occasionally, and I classify it as a "mysterious Porsche issues" item. there have been posts on this noise question before, check using the search feature. cheers, j
  13. sounds like what happened to me a few years ago. went out on sunday, all fine. then monday, just doing my regular daily drive, I noticed the voltage was low, and had abs/psm lights, etc. managed to get home and into the garage. car would not restart. could not even jump start it. towed to indy.... replaced alternator and battery and all was good again. car had not been driven for about 2 weeks when the problem occurred. I bought a trickle charger and now put that on the car if I'm away for longer than a weekend. I did leave the car at a hotel for a long weekend last October with no problem. I plan to replace the battery approx every 2 years. good luck....
  14. my guess is that its been winter and the car hasnt been driven and it was just "cleaning its tubes," so to speak, upon emerging from hibernation.
  15. in the SC there is a fan mounted to push air down and through the front a/c condenser. the fan is to the left of the washer pump. is there one of these in your carrerra? if not, I'd bet that's the wire. If yes, then it could be wiring for the optional headlight washer or for the fog lights.
  16. hairdryer, on low setting, sometimes is handy to remove moisture from electical connections. your problem could have been a moisture issue if carpets were cleaned inside the car. glad for the fast recovery...
  17. what happened with this situation? (computer has been down for awhile after a recent storm over this way.) I had a similar problem some years ago, and ended up replacing the alternator. put in a new battery as well.
  18. I think this is only used under the driver seat to somewhat protect the stuff underneath. at least I dont have one attached to the passenger seat in my car. unbelievable how Porsche could use a cheap plastic item like this one... but, oh well...
  19. hwy 1 from Stinson Beach to Leggett; 101 to Gold Beach, Or.; Agnes Rd to Medford (watch out for Butch and Sundance); 5 to Eugene; West through the lava beds to Bend; up to Crater Lake.
