  1. Do you recommend Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 for an older engine like a 1976 2.7L?

  5. Thanks I'll pick up some lacquer thinner and painter's green tape to protect the car's paint. I'm not knowledgeable on how to remove all the trim pieces safely to do a better job. I'll give this a shot first and see how the results stack up.

  7. Been almost a year since I posted here and not much has happened. I did get my brother to help me roll the car out and wash it throughly and clay bar & wax it. He gave me an estimate of cost for what we need to to just get it safe to drive like new tires and brakes and shocks. The engine still needs a look at and the fuel drained and oil change and spark plugs. One question I had is about the battery. I have an original Porsche battery that was new back in the early 90's I had bought but is it worth reconditioning it or what ever the process is called? There is a good battery place that does this type of job if it's possible to do. If I need to buy a new one, does anyone know what the right model specs of the battery I need to buy if it's not an original Porsche battery? Is it a smart or ok idea to use other brand batteries on a 76 911?
  8. Here are some better pics, left and right side of the fuel door opening. The previous owner made some DIY cable pull when the original broke, would like to update both ends (or just the knob/handle) inside the car.

  10. When I got the car the trim was originally chrome but then painted black to give the car a more current 1989 look which was the last year of this design. I would like to remove the black paint but don't know what is the best product to use and care instructions so I don't accidentally touch the car's paint. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  11. The original cover flap broke off but part of it stayed on the screws in the fender. How would I go about repairing this? Should I get a new/used complete flap cover or try to fix the original which includes welding, etc., which I'm not comfortable doing nor have the tools. Thanks guys. Here's a pic.
  12. I'll give it a shot. This seems the best shot I have. From what I know about the history of the car from the previous owner, is it's a 1976 911S with a Turbo body. California car brought over from Russia I believe, (he was Russian). Later I found out he passed away from criminal activity as told to me by the Wessiach Porsche shop up here when I last took the car in. So, it's got some history :)

  14. Yes I recall someone told me the same thing about reading it when the oil is hot and a level ground only.
  15. Sorry to be off topic here, but is there any where in the forums instructions on how to read the plate that is in our trunks behind the carpet? Some of it makes sense though it's in German but some doesn't. Thanks.

  17. Really hard to say what is normal or not, I'm sure someone technical can chime in for you. Have you googled with any luck? My car has been sitting for years and just washed it and detailed it recently, but I recall it getting warm after a good run.

  19. I agree, it will be some work for sure. Pelican forums are very good too. But when I'm done with this task I won't let it happen again and drive the car at least once a week like on Sundays!
  20. Those were some suggestions that other members posted to me when I asked. If you read my posts surely you will find the one that has all the suggestions. Other items were brakes, suspension, battery, any fluids as well. My brother will be helping me since he has experience and education in this field. But timing hasn't worked out for him to come by and winter is pretty bad even here in Vancouver. It's been cold to work in the garage and of course life priorities get in the way especially being married and having a new home!
