  1. I filled my tank to the top, and still my gauge reads a bit past 3/4!!!! Is this common? I know that with my 944 the gauge never read full. and it was a ground issue. Is this the same?
  2. I hopped into my toy today, put in my Eric Clapton, BB King cd and I'll be darned! BB was singing his heart out, but Eric sounded like he was kicking in from the mens room down the hall! After playing with the controls, I find that my entire L/S track is GONE! Being totally ignorant about Audio, do I figure on replacing the radio, or could it be the amp? Opinions please. There is a replacment radio on e-bay as we speak.
  3. I hate admit it, but you are absolutely right! I work nights at AZ and am a Subaru Parts Manager during the day. So at least once a week, I go into Autozone, only to find a frustrated STI or Porsche owner, waiting to speak to the "expert". If only they knew!!!! hehe
  4. I was with you all until the "Porsches and Autozone don't mix well" Hmmmm do I sell my boxster, or do I quite my job with Autozone????????????????????????
  5. I can't believe it!!!! The weather was a bit warm (for Long Isalnd anyway!) So I went to lower the top, (being careful to use the "chop" method) and **** IT! the rear window CRACKED! :censored: I decided to hold of on any replacement for the winter and see if I can find a sail maker locally who can replace the plastic rear window in the spring. I just had to get this off my chest!
  6. Very much appreciated guys! As you know, P-car ownership can be very rewarding, but in my opinion, it would be frustrating as hell without these forums! I agree with you 110% Max. the board works when we all try and give back a little of what we take from it. And Tool Pants, YOU ARE THE MAN!
  7. I just spoke to my friendly local dealer service manager as to why my alarm on my 98 keeps going off. To my dismay, he informed me that while this is a rare problem, he has had to change a couple of alarm control units, to the tune of $1400 - $1800! I'm now searching for a used piece, but am being asked for the part number on the box. being in total shock over the price of a new one, I didn't have the presence of mind to ask where it's located. can someone please let me know where to find it, so that I can start locking my car again?
  8. Ahhh I see sort of like a warning system built in to the tire. hmmm good point! I have a new found respect for the thump thump thump......
  9. OK maybe I'm crazy but I notice that if I let my 98 sit in the garage for a week or so, then take it out for a spin, I have a thumping as if there is a flat spot on the tires. It lasts for maybe 2 to 3 miles, then seems to vanish. Funny thing is I notice the same on my 944. Am I crazy (ok yes I'm crazy) or does this have to do with the soft compound tires on both these cars? I deal with "bling bling Subaru WRX zoom zoom ricers" all day long, (www.mspt.net , shameless plug) and have yet to hear anyone complain about this. Is this just the nature of the beast? or what?
  10. Do I need any special tools to do the oil change on my 98 2.5? And is there anything i should look out for? I know it's a dumb question, but after all I'm new to this!
  11. Thanks! I guess the Oil Fairy was good to me then! Besides it was the only 10W-40 i've been able to find in a synthetic! Autozone no longer carries it (at least in New York) P.S. the Yankees SUCK!
  12. Has anyone used Amsoil. 10W-40 on their Boxster? I have a buddy who is a distributor, and swears by the stuff. And today, a case showed up on my door step, (the oil fairy I think).
  13. Just an update. I contacted a local Porsche dealer, and after running my VIN, he informed me that if he could confirm the cat is defective, Porsche will replace it under warranty!!!! THANK YOU MR. DEALER!!!! by the way it's a 98 with 70800 miles on it.
  14. I think I have the problem narrowed down to 2 different, but related issues! I'm now almost 100% the false alarms are due the infrared sensors, as I can set the alarm using the double lock method (thus shutting off the infrared sensors) and the indicator light flashes properly, and the alarm seems to work properly, and next I'm willing to bet the previous owner unplugged the alarm horn because of the problem. I'll know in the morning, if the guy next door doesn't leave a note on my car again!
  15. If i trigger the alarm, the lights flash as they should, but no horn at all. If I set the alarm while in the car with top down the LED flashs in a single flash pattern, That is why I'm wondering if the problem is in the infrared sensors. I assume they are behind the two ovals by the dome light. But if I set the alarm with the top up, and the move in the car, the exterior lights start flashing as they should, but NO horn! I'll check to see if the alarm horn was disconnected in the morning. Thanks for your help so far!!!!!!
  16. I just picked up a 98 thats in great shape, except that there's a tear in the rear window. When I purchased it, the "dealer" said he had a guy who would replace the rear window at his cost. When I picked up the car, I was told that the shop had lost it's convertible top guy, so I was out of luck. I've made several calls locally, and have been told that the rear window isn't replacable, and the whole top needs to be replaced. This seems kind of odd to me! Can anyone help me? :help:
  17. When I set the alarm from outside, the lights blink twice. and after a few seconds the LED on the dash double blinks. which I believe indicates that a zone hasn't been secured properly. I'll have to get a wiring diagram, and start tracing.
  18. I just checked the owners manual, and the computer at Autozone, and I just don't understand! All reccommendations I've found address temps over 50 degrees, or under 14 degrees f! The only oil that seems to fit into both catagoties is synthetic 10w-40 I live on Long Island in New York, and the temp for the next 3-4 monts will probably be BETWEEN 14 and 50! what weight oil do you guys recommend????? I Work at Autozone, and I'll be damned we don't even carry any synthetic 10w-40!
  19. In a previous post I mentioned that I have a small tear in the rear window of my 98 (plastic). I've called a couple of local guys and am told that the entire roof needs to be replaced, to the tune of like $2000!!!! I recall someone mentioning that the rear plastic could be replaced for somewhere in the area of $400-$800 the rest of the top in in good shape! Am I being taken advantage of locally, or what!
  20. Well I've done a little more digging. No I'm not pushing the button twice, and I have a feeling this problem may have been on going prior to my getting the car, because at NO TIME do I hear any horns, bells whistles or anything! Almost like the alarm horn has been disconnected. Although the lights do flash. I also noticed that if I'm sitting in the car, and set the alarm with the push button on the key, it seems to set properly, meaning the LED flashes repeatedly, slowly. but as soon as I more, the lights start flashing, like the alarm has been triggered.
  21. Thanks for the input! the car has a stock exhaust on it, so I dont think that's not the cause. I'll contact the dealer today! Also. for your WRX. I work for a Subaru dealer.... AND a Subaru performance company. (M.S.P.T. metric subaru performance tuning) and we do have a CEL fix for your car! check it out on www.mspt.net (shameless plug!)
  22. Thanks! I'm gonna call the dealer in the AM and HOPE he can claify things.
  23. Tonights my night for questions i guess!!!! I noticed that the LED on my dash was doing the Doulble blink thing when the alarm was set. After reading the manual, I've come to the conclusion that one of the switches, (sensors?) isn't setting, therefore the alarm isn't setting. Any ideas as to how to diagnose this? I'm sure I'll have more questions as the night progresses!
  24. Well I've read the owners manual from cover tro cover, and now fully understand EVERYTHING there is to know about my Boxster........NOT! Anyway. The mystery rear spoiler light appears to be working just fine. As soon as I start to move it goes out. But now..............I have a CEL! "low cat efficency bank 1" O2?
