  1. FYI...follow up...ended up being the ignition switch spring. $100 and 5 minutes from my mechanic did the trick. Sometimes you get lucky... Thanks all... Tony PS On a worse note: Blew up the engine on the 944s racecar at Barber...ka-boom. No more #3 piston. :(
  2. Apologies to Wross996TT. I've re-read again and maybe I read something into your post that wasn't there. Can we call it used car frustration? ;-)
  3. Thanks Loren...good to know! Amateur mechanic here...learning a lot! PhillipJ...I really usually do use honey and am quite grateful for renntech and Porsche enthusiasts in general for the help. Replied to the earlier post in the same manner as I received it. Probably should've taken the high road. Felt it wasn't someone trying to help, just someone not being nice. Perhaps I took it wrong, but I've looked at it a few times and it still reads like a pissy/negative post. My apologies if I'm in error. I'm just trying to save myself some money and asking for help...and do it the correct way. You are correct...honey works better and you won't see a reaction post like that from me again. Now, off to get the codes read with a Durametric Code reader! Tony
  4. first: The problem with my car is the same as the title of the thread...therefore, starting a new thread would only lead people to suggest I go to this thread. second: the post says that there were no codes thrown...codes were read, and nothing showed up. Anyone have any constructive help or similar experiences not covered in the thread?
  5. Thread resurrection: Keyfob stopped remotely opening car...replaced battery. Still won't unlock doors, but car starts fine. However, sporatically (twice), once after a quick stop and another at a stop light...car goes dead. Just stops running. No warning, no error lights. Turn key over and instruments work, but won't restart. Have to take key out and wait a few seconds, then car starts up again. New immobilizer 2 years ago. Not throwing any codes at all. Scratching my head. I'm leaning towards immobilizer, but open to suggestions. Both times, full premium fuel, and problem didn't come up again for over a day. Can't find any rhyme or reason as to why. Thoughts? Thanks! 2002 996 Turbo. 41k miles. No mods.
  6. Guys, had the same problem after replacing the turn light in the headlight assembly. Put it all back together and got no turn signal (didn't touch that light) on the passenger's side. Removed the headlamp assembly to check my work, and turned off the car. Passenger side lights stayed on. Baffled me, 'til I found this. However, this didn't solve my problem. What DID solve it was much less expensive. put the darn headlight assembly back in the car and make sure it was snug. Then start the car. When I did both of these, everything worked perfectly. This was on an '06 Cayenne S. Thought it was worth mentioning. Tony
  7. Thanks...sorry I wasn't clear...it's a hard plastic (can't bend it) piece that appears to be some air intake ductwork piece coming off the top of the engine heading back to the bulkhead. the picture above is from the passenger side looking down at a slight angle.
  8. gonna take a picture tomorrow (1/3) (car is in a barn off-site)...thx for the time...I truly appreciate it! Tony
  9. Track day...came off of track, car running fine. Tried to start it for the next session, nada. Looked under hood with some other 944 guys and one noticed fraying on wiring of the sensor. Tried to "hotwire" the wires since the wiring harness plug was right where the frayed wiring was...no good. So, bought a new sensor with the harness figuring I needed to do it anyway for the wiring, at the very least. So, if I'm reading you correctly, the sensor should come directly up out of it's hole...like straight up. Mine is at an angle. Maybe 70 degrees towards the driver's side rather than 90degrees (straight up). Is that correct? If so, then it sounds like you are spot on and the assembly housing has been rotated for some reason. Interesting that I didn't go off track or anything odd. Thanks for your time with this...it's a bit baffling to me. Tony
  10. yep...that's what it should do...but when removing the sensor itself, it comes out approx 80% of the way, then hits the the edge of the top of the engine preventing it from coming up and out. Seems strange to me too, like the hole is rotated for some reason or something. I would think it would be designed to be a clean "up and out" removal. When I get over to the barn where I have it, I'll take a picture. Quite frustrating for what i anticipated was going to be a 5 minute job. ;-) Tony
  11. Guys, Need to replace the crank position sensor on my 86 944. Problem is that when pulling it out, we hit the engine and there isn't room to get it fully out of the slot. Is there some trick to removing this little bugger? We get it about 80% of the way out before hitting the engine block. Thoughts? Appreciated y'all! Tony 86 944s racecar 02 996 turbo 06 Cayenne S
  12. Guys, This technique IS pretty cool, but didn't work for me. I think the scratches were too deep, and not true "dings". I must say tho...pretty cool idea, and the theory sounds great! Oh well, $15 of dry ice is worth it to try! :) T.
  13. anybody have any ideas on what may be going on? Front driver's side tire corded on the inside all the way around after 3 DE sessions on an easy track. Camber is about 1%. The other front tire didn't not wear strangely. Having the alignment checked as we speak. Wonder if I got a bad tire. The rest of the tire looks good. Thoughts? Tony '99 911 996 '06 Cayenne S '87ish 944s racecar
  14. I didn't find anything on this, but wasn't sure how to classify it to search: a tool shelf in my garage fell into my driver door on my '99 996 resulting in some pretty deep grooves. Anybody have any ideas on how to inexpensively fix of make these less noticeable? Thanks! Tony '99 911 996 coupe '06 Cayenne S '87ish 944s racecar
  15. That's what I was afraid of... Thanks Loren! You are a huge asset to me! Tony
  16. horrible flooding in Nashville, car driver's side flooded. Car will play radio, etc., but no click when turning key all the way to start. Is there a way to disconnect the security box under the driver's seat to get the car started? I've dried out the inside of the car, but no luck on getting the car started. Have double solid lights on top of the dash, and the door lock light is lit constantly. Can't "unlock" the security system. Doors are unlocked, but when closed sporatically will cycle the window up the 1/2" and down over and over. Othertimes, door will close with no problem. Any ideas? Don't wanna have to tow the car if I can help it...and it's in the drive blocking my wife's car! Thx! Tony
  17. never did find it....but it smells much better 3 weeks later!
  18. Guys, Thanks...fixed my horn too. This is about the 5th Renntech fix that I have done where I would've taken it to my Porsche guy in the past and paid big $$$! :renntech:
  19. Positive that it's not coming from beneath the car...fyi. I've had it up on jack stands and looked all around. Been in the engine bay...no smell or critter. This is a first!
  20. Hey guys... Strange one for you. Have a dead animal smell coming from the drivers side of the sunroof. Smells from the outside when open...really stinks up the car from the inside when the car is shut. Have looked under the sunroof interior and have shined a flashlight back thru where the roof slides, but don't see anything. Any ideas where a critter could have gotten to and died, or how to get a look at the whole interior of the roof (i.e remove the ceiling liner)? It's really bad! I have a '99 996 Coupe Tony
  21. Much Thanks! Seems like a unique fix in my Porsche...an easy fix! :) Tony
