  1. Mine lasted 5 years, cold climate seems to kill them faster.
  2. The car is best above 5k, then the smell is rubber on the exhaust.
  3. I had Michelin Alpin on a Boxster S and loved them. I now have a 2007 C4S with Pirellis Sottozero from Tirerack on their club wheels. The tires work well but the wheels are hard to balance, and the clear coat is peeling. I have driven both tires on wet, mixed, snow, and ice and they perform well (I'm in Ohio). They also work well when its dry, but below 50 degrees. The reason you are having trouble finding tires is its a bit late in the season, retailers don't carry a lot of winter tires for our cars.
  4. Thanks for the info, mine is a 2007 C4S, it has the plastic guides and they are intact. I have lubricated all the usual creak suspects, and the top used to be rock solid. At the end of fall it started creeking, and it seems to be the front edge moving side to side.
  5. Odd question, should there be any side to side movement of the latch hook. When partially open the hook can be moved about half an inch left or right. I'm asking because the top has started creaking badly and it seems to be the front edge of the top moving side to side.
  6. The difference between the c4, and the C2 on snow or ice shows up most in the slow speed driving you end up doing. Stopped on a snow covered incline, bumper to bumper traffic on a cambered snow covered road, getting into my garage from the alley. I'm in OH, and was able to drive every snow day, I got a C4S for it's big behind and for the little bit better traction all wheel drive gives you in snow, but it is only marginally better.
  7. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the secondary air injection, because does it makes the noise for 2 minutes, then stops. If I turn it off and restart, no noise, have to wait till it gets cold.
  8. I still have the noise, I am sure Porsche fixed another noise but it was not the one I was concerned about. I have not taken it back yet because it only does it when the engine is cold, so I have to leave it there then come back so myself and the tech can listen to the exhaust.
  9. Now replacing the VISCOUS CLUTCH W/M33, are they slowly rplacing the drive parts to the front wheels?
  10. Took car (2007 C4S)to dealer for a rattle that seemed to be coming from the exhaust. 5 days latter we are replacing the CARDAN SHAFT W/BRACK, and some other parts. Got the car in on the last day of my factory warranty, CPO takes over now. Can't complain about how long it's taking, my loaner car is a panamerra. I do have to say that the panamerra shoul not be available in a V6, I looked under the hood and there is a huge gap infont of the engine.
  11. I start my 2007 C4S, hit the seat warmer, pick the radio station or cd I want, back out my driveway and then just drive it. If I plan on redlining it through all the gears on the on ramp, or if the on ramp led to an autobahn , then yes, I would warm it up first (same treatment I gave the 2005 Boxster S). The advice on this site is very helpful, and clearly there are experts when it comes to Porsche, but sometimes it sounds like we a discussing handgrenades with wheels.
  12. Same, had a boxster S it cranked strong fired up straight away. Now I have a 911 C4S and everytime it cranks I think i'm going to be calling roadside assist. But it starts everytime , and it was 5F this morning.
  13. Congratulations, I recently upgraded from a 2005 Boxster S to a 2007 C4S CPO. I miss the Boxster, it was a great car, a couple of things broke in the time I had it, but it never left me sitting by the side of the road and I drove it all year round in Ohio. The 911 is a completely different car, the quality is clearly a step up, I now truly appreciate that the Boxster is an "entry level" Porsche. The robustness of the 911, the build quality, it just feels like a luxury car, even though the interior basically looks the same as the Boxster, it just feels more like a luxury car. The 911 handles a little better than the Boxster, but I will put this down to it being a C4S, it brakes as well as the Boxster, it feels as quick, maybe quicker, but it does not sound as fast. It is probably the one thing that disappoints me, no howling engine note just behind me. Over all I am very happy with the car, nothing has broken, it starts easily every time, no weird glitches. I think Porsche needs to do a little better policing their CPO process, my car did not have manuals (still waiting) some screws were loose in the convertible top, and a marker light was loose. These are all things that should have been found during the CPO check of the car. These things don't stress me out, they were easy fixes, but they shouldn't happen. I have the balance of the factory warranty left, and then 2 years of CPO so I did not get an extended warranty. For right now as many things as possible can break, the top isn't quite lining up perfectly when it closes, sounds like a trip to the Porsche service department is in order. 2007 C4S Cabriolet, GT Silver, Black full leather interior, Sport Chrono Plus, Bose.
  14. Install special order parts on top Bow; Rework Bow adjust fit of top, adjust frame to body fit. Part 987-561-927-00 F-kit felt strip. I have no problems with the top since this was done, no noise at all, and as it has been summer it has been up and down a lot of times. I should look to see exactly what it is they changed.
  15. mbodo: Pulling off the two rubber plugs and making the adjustment to the two torx screws (once you understand what the components look like inside the door) takes less than 15 minutes and doesn't involve leaving the car at the dealer. That's always a plus for me. LOL! Let us know how you resolve the issue. Check to make sure that the rubber gasket (or the felt one) have not pushed into an odd position, check that sides of the car look the same. Once after they worked on my top the gaskets were out of place and I had terrible noise. Regards, Maurice.
  16. Sorry for the delay, the exact words on the work order are: Install special order parts on top Bow; Reqork Bow adjust fit of top, adjust frame to body fit Part 987-561-927-00 F-kit felt strip
  17. Porsche tell me there is a fix for the cracking noise, a new felt part for the roof, I should have it installed next week will post how it goes.
  18. I have a 2005 S, the matt finish on the center console has started peeling at any minor wear point. The edge of the ash tray, I dont use it but I sometimes rest my hand there, and on the passenger side where the seatbelt clasp touches. Has anyone else has this problem?. Apart from that have had no trouble with car, drive every day, switch to winter tyres and drive all winter.
  19. I have a similar noise that has been getting worse, have tried putting silicone on lots of different parts to no avail, I notice that if I undo the roof locking handle the noise goes away regardless of how rough the road is. Does anyone have complete diagrams of all the moving parts in the softop?.
