  1. Hey guys. I am having an annoying problem with both drivers and passenger seat in my 02 996 Turbo. For some reason neither seat will go up or down. I can hear the motor run but the seat doesn't move. All the other motors work and move, it's just the up and down one that doesn't go anywhere. But the motor is definitely running.
  2. I'll check the AOS. I replaced it about 20k miles ago. Any chance any of these would be causing the ticking?
  3. I started my 97 Boxster recently and noticed it was smoking an awful lot, I also noticed a tick that is more prevalent is on the passenger side. I have three engine codes: P1411, P0153, and P1119. This all seems too sudden to be coincidental. Anyone have any thoughts or information? I really hope this isn't something serious. TIA everyone.
  4. Basically wobble at the outside edge of the rotor caused by a bad rotor or wheel hub. Any way to tell which one without going out buying parts and hoping it solves the problem?
  5. So my boxster has two issues at speed. The first is a shake right in the seat of your pants, but I believe that to be the result of an obviously bent rim (**** NY roads), but that is soon to be fixed. Issue 2, is a shake/ shudder in the wheel. It happens at 72mph and then at 78, if I take her up to 80-85 no issues, the shake goes away. The tires have barely any miles on them. Any thoughts on what this very very annoying shake is?
  6. Ok, so the car is back in my garage and running like she did when I first bought her years ago. I wanted to update this, just for future reference for others. So turns out it was the timing chains like they thought, when they reinstalled the tensioner, they had the timing off by a link. Unfortunately they spent an extra week going through the engine, trying to find out what was wrong, went into the cylinders and all. The good news is, they didn't try to charge me for any of the extra work. I was quite impressed with that. Either way, she's all fixed. And the good news is that when they went through the engine, everything looked good. The rings are great, compression is strong, and there isn't any scoring in the cylinder walls, good stuff for 116k. :D
  7. I can't really remember the numbers off the top of my head, but they were random cylinder misfire, misfire cyl 1, misfire cyl 2, misfire cyl 3. Camshaft position sensor perf/k
  8. So one morning in early May I went out, jumped in the Boxster to head off, started her up, and she stutered, almost stalled out, then set into a rough idle. The engine light came on, then started to flash (misfires cyl 1-3 bank 1). Revving to 2k made a loud clattering sound. I shut it down and put in a call to a buddy who used to be a master mechanic at the local Porsche dealership before it was sold off to some scumbag from NYC who now uses the dealership to launder money and move cars through from his other dealerships. This dealership has sense lost it's Porsche dealership and now remains Audi, VW, and M-B. I was also getting a code for a cam shaft position sensor. So on the advice of my friend, I replaced it with an OEM part, and did the air oil seperator while I was at it. After a good couple nights out in the garage, and a sucessful install, it didn't solve the problem. After doing some research and contemplating an engine swap, I decided to take it to the dealer (told me it was a timing chain issue). I trailered it to the dealer on my way out of town for work. A week later, the dealership still hadn't finished the install, and I was going to have to make the 2 hr drive again the next day. :censored: I called the next day, they had replaced the timing tensioner and what not to the tune of $2,300, and they didn't fix it, still misfires 1-3 and clatters at 2k. They then told me their tech is and I quote "stumped" (real confidence booster). So they called Porsche. That all took place on tuesday, here it is Friday and they still have no clue. :cursing: I am not having a good time, and my sense of humor has faded. So can any of you shed any light on the issue, maybe one of you knows something this idiot of a dealer doesn't?
  9. I am very much interested in the shops in CT, btw.
  10. I'm in Upstate NY. I often go to Atlanta on business and have already been in contact with Roock. I am getting the engine out of Canada, it is a 2.7 out of a 05. I would prefer not to drive to Canada and then back down to Atlanta.
  11. Hey all, I did some searches and really couldn't find much. Can someone point me to a performance shop in the North East United States that can do a motor swap on my Boxster? Thanks.
  12. Ok, this may have been covered at some point, but I am new here, and kinda in a time crunch. I have a 97' Boxster, with 115k on it. Recently I started getting camshaft sensor errors and misfires. So I put the car in the garage, and left it there. I talked to the nearest dealer (over an hour away, since my local dealer lost its porsche dealership, and only uses the dealership for laundering), they told me that they think it's timing chain issue, and that the job will cost 2k or more. The car has very high sentimental value to me, and I don't want to sell it. So I am considering doing a motor swap, as I think it will be cheaper in the long run. I don't want to go as far as a 3.4 996 motor, as I want to go Boxster-toBoxster. I would really like to put a little more beef in the car while I am at it. I found a 2.7 out of a 05 987. Is this swap compatable? If not what swaps are? And which ones are best for my car?
