  1. How long and how many cars sported the old blue/gold license plates?
  2. Promises, promises. (Photos) Also, to pick knits, I believe the wheels are Carrera (standard). I'm probably wrong. Are they 19"?
  3. Will post pictures this weekend :D We agonized with you. We gave you good advice. We gave you bad advice. We stood stoic in the maternity ward for the birth of your new black baby. Oooops..not politically correct. All we asked for was pictures. What did we get? Nothing!
  4. You will have to take the car to the dealer if you don't have a CD changer. This enables the PCM screen to show artist, song title, timing, etc. I recently had this done to the iTune (pun intended) of $159. I was not happy but have no regrets.
  5. This has been a wonderful thread. Kind of like seeing an old movie with a happy ending and everyone smiling as they leave the theater. Phillip, as my dad use to say: "Keep it on the ground." Bob
  6. If you have a couple of bucks left over, order clear side markers from Eric at BumperPlugs. Imho they really enhance the appearance of black cars.
  7. Mazel tov Phillip. Enjoy and may there be fair winds and open roads ahead for you. I have the same wheels on my '05 and see them on others. I've seen the 'busy' wheels on '06 in pictures on the web. Perhaps both wheels were available for both years?
  8. um, what is a Launch Car? Is that a generic term for the first year of a new/revised model or something more specific? There are no dumb questions, right?
  9. If the '06 is what you want, go for it; don't linger. I got burnt twice over the years regarding a painting and another car. I didn't have the guts to pull the trigger at the appropriate moment and when I decided to go back they were both sold. Disappointed, especially about the painting. The price for the car as equipped seems exceptional, especially w/warranty. Best of luck. Bob
  10. I live in the Bay Area and I just bought an '05 non S CPO for ~$45K. The car is a Tip and the dealer said that they are tougher to resell and the price was recently reduced. I'm an old guy living in traffic so it was what I wanted. The dealer gave me $17K for my '99 base C2. I didn't want the hassle of selling it and they are losing value daily as I've seen a few on Craig's List for under $20k. You can add 10% to anything for sales tax and registration which is a killer. There is a world of difference between a 997 and a 996. The interior and civility is worth the price difference. IMO while the 997 seems heavier it is much quicker. Good luck in your adventure and I think all the '05 kinks should have been resolved in whatever you buy.
  11. Philip Hey if the '05 turns you on, go for it. After following your 996 adventures for the last few months, I truly believe you wouldn't be happy with a Lexus type car. You need projects along with angst. Best of luck with whatever you choose. Let me know where you park the car with the keys. BTW, my '05 is a joy w/o problems.
  12. The compartment that opens downward below the dash on the passenger side.
  13. I believe security systems are standard on all Porsches. Lock your car with the glove box open. You should hear two beeps from the alarm horn. Lock your car with a window down and attempt to open the door. Be prepared for many beeps.
  14. It looks like RemoteKey is the Swiss Army Knife of remote keyless entry. For me, however, $299 is a bit dear for a couple of beeps. Thanks to both of you for your responses.
  15. Did you ever find out what caused the problem. I actually want to go the other way. I want the horn to sound when I lock the car.
  16. I tried a search but unsuccessful with my key words. I would like to have my '05 sound a horn beep when remotely locking the car. I had this ability with my 996 after installing an after market radio and it is outstanding as to letting you know if you actually locked the car. I know that leaving the glove box open trips the alarm but this is rather awkward. Is there a fuse or something that can be removed or some other method to allow the horn to sound when locking the car? TIA for your responses.
  17. I recently changed my avatar and the new one appears in My Controls but not in new posts.
  18. Thanks for your response. I'm really a klutz when it comes to these sort of things. I would hate to mess up and I know that I'm a Murphy's Law magnet.
  19. Would appreciate a recommendation for a professional to install a Dension iPod kit. I live in San Mateo County. Thanks
  20. Thanks for your positive attitude and helpful comments. Did you read my previous post? There was a reason the '06 was only 3k more. It was a piece of crap but then again you probably would have bought it because it was newer and cheaper. I was mostly looking for AWD v RWD insight. I'm 76 years of age, sonny, and I don't think I would have lasted this long if I took all advice, all the time.
  21. Well, I passed on the C4. It looked a little rough for the modest amount of miles on the car which started out in Florida. A car with only a few months left on warranty. I decided on the 05 despite all the caveats. I bought the car from a Bay Area Porsche dealer and it is a CPO. Seal Gray, Bose, navigation and some lesser stuff. I'm happy as I drove away in a car I'm going to really like and feel protected with the Certified Pre Owned warranty. Car values have really plummeted the last few months. With my 99 996 as a trade-in I wrote a check for $33,850 (9% sales tax in CA) and was out the door. They threw in a set of clear side markers. :) I'm not sure why my05 is so negative. I never had a problem with my 99 which has been trashed brutally on this and other forums.
