  1. Great looking example. May I suggest clear side markers. They look great on black and silver cars. Amber is so nineties.
  2. I look but I don't have much luck with the search engine. I live in the bay area and I'm thinking of moving up from a 1999 C2 to a 2005-6 997. I want a Tip as I'm one of those old farts who don't track or race and don't like to shift gears in traffic. I have a choice between an 05 C2 or an 06 C4 with a price difference of ~$3K. The 05 has 44k miles and the 06 has 26k. Both are comparably equipped. The 06 is probably the better deal with lower mileage and I understand that engine problems have been resolved. What I would like is your thoughts regarding AWD in fair weather climate. Is maintenance an issue? Is handling much different in normal driving? Any other issues I should be concerned with? Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
  3. The screach has gone away as suddenly as it appeared. Go figure.
  4. No results using key words: window - noise When I lower driver side window I get a very loud screaching noise. Rapidly repeating up/down sequences diminishes noise but after a fairly short interval it reappears. No problem when raising window. I'm hoping for an easy solution as I don't want to go into the door panel if I can avoid it. Thanks for suggestions and comments.
  5. Are the standard headlights for a 996 halogens or regular bulbs?
  6. Thanks for your input. I've decided to go the wax/cleaner route. Alas, I only have basic black rotors (sob). Thanks again.
  7. I am thinking of installing brake dust shields for a my99 996. Any suggestions for where to purchase and if they are effective. Any caveat's? Thanks bolobar
  8. If you're using blank CD's you've burned yourself the problem may be the brand of CD's. This problem happened to me using CompUSA blanks. When I changed to Phillips no more pause/skipping. I think any name brand will do better than private label stuff.
  9. I've had this happen. Make sure that the headlight is properly secured when you install it. You should feel quite a bit of pressure and hear a loud "clunk" when turning the wrench. This has happened to me more than once.
  10. Wouldn't it be nice if Porsche's came with Handicapped Placards. After all, most Porsche owners are handicapped in one way or another.
  11. Thanks, not sure if the rewards are worth the time and expense.
  12. Hi...Where do you buy 100 octane fuel? I live in Millbrae.
  13. BruceP Outstanding post. Must Read for every prospective Porsche owner. Regards
  14. Not meaning to hi-jack your thread, but.... Is there a way to tell if a MY99 996 has had an engine replaced by looking at the car rather than trying to find out via a dealer? A friend wants to buy one and is stressed about engine failure. Reads too many forums.
  15. Computer says: 19.2 mpg Mostly surface streets Some freeway
  16. When i turn on the fog lights (1st position to the right) on my 99 C2 the right headlight comes on and is very dim/weak. Everything OK when I switch to the headlight position. Is this a switch issue and, if so, is the switch easily changed? This sort of thing is a challenge for me. I reinstalled the headlight but no joy.
  17. Does anyone have reliable figures as to the percentage of IMS (and RMS) failures to total 99-01 cars manufactured? I understand that the total is high compared to others but are failures virtually guaranteed? I also understand that RMS failures are less likely in Tip equipped models. Anecdotally, I bought a 99 996 on a $26K whim. No PPI, no nada except a 1/2 hour drive. I have had absolutely no issues. Luck of the draw, perhaps.
  18. Arguably, the 997 interiors are superior to the 996; especially earlier models.
  19. Don't want to hi-jack your post but may I add that a recommendation for San Mateo County would be appreciated as well.
  20. Hello all When stone cold my car starts in 1st gear rather than 2nd on level street and is very slow in upshifting. My street is residential and is hard to get up to speed quickly. Shifts to 2nd okay but will not upshift to 3rd unless i accelerate rapidly which is not what I would like to do. This all sorts itself out and everything goes smoothly shortly after the secondary air pumps stop (< 1 min). ATF level is good. Is this normal? bolobar
