  1. sorry for taking so long to reply I have been away from PC. I did not swap out the DME because I had no key and alarm module from the other car only the ECU. I am going to swap out DME for a 3.6 with matching alarm module and key and see what goes from their. I did find out my mistakes of trying to swap soft ware maps I have been informed this cannot be done because the memory on a 3.6 DME has a bigger capacity then the 3.4 DME hence soft ware swap would not have worked 100% as not enough memory. I will read that article you sent a link to with great interest and see if I can figure out where I am going wrong.
  2. hi I am reading this with great interest. I too have a 996 C2 2001 year sitting in my friends work shop which has undergone this conversion. History is the car a 2001 996 C2 had blown engine the car had egas pedal and was a manual. The car had a 3.6 C4 manual engine transplanted into it. The car would not start initially then we copied the software from the donar cars ecu the 3.6 ecu soft ware was copied and placed onto the 3.4 DME. This was done but I feel maybe all the soft ware was not carried across because the 3.4 DME has less memory then the 3.6 DME. the problem I am at is the car starts and drives fine up until it reaches 60 mph it seems really slow getting past the 60 mph speed and slowly makes progress to 70 mph. I do want to finish this project off and would like some input from any one who has some more knowledge on the topic.
  3. My KTS card is fine. I did notice that the pins on. The dongle supplied by sense has only 5 pins being used Pins 6,7,10,12,13 are used on sense plug . I know this is not the correct amount as looking at the diagnostic plug on a 964 it uses more then 5 pins
  4. Arrr yes I am using the Canadian supplied sense solutions adapter not the Chinese one which seems to utilise all the pins lol. I guess I will attempt to wire knock & TD sensor wires up as well as I have a cheap Chinese spare I bought earlier which was useless as a disection subject. If the sense solutions are good copies & I am using genuine pst2 lead I still don't understand why I cannot read abs ? Also something else weird happens on some scans it picks up Airconditioning when it has faults stores & on other occasions it misses it completely but always manages to pick up DME & airbag modules with out fail
  5. Oops made mistake using iphone to reply & re-posted Richards post. I have conflicting opinions on this topic. Some people say only C4 1989 + models abs can be read by pst2 tester. & 1989-1991 C2 models cannot be read. I know in Adrians book he mentions something along the lines of using a special tool to plug direct into where the abs harness attaches to the abs ecu. Some sort of led device. I am gonna investigate to see if my K&L lines are being used properly on my adapter. I still wish to resolve this issue as it gets to me when something is not functioning correctly lol. On a lighter side I fixed my abs issue turned out two abs sensors where not seated into their respective harness bunch plugs. I found this information out by using volt meter at abs ecu checking pins for resistance measurements for each sensor. Thank you both posters for chiming in on this topic as i posted the same topic on Rennlist & no replies.
  6. PLUS ONE ON THAT my friends car had same issue we used PST2 tester to check if key giving out signal it was LED was lighting up as well and turned out to be cracked PCB where the chip is soldered to the board some legs of the chip come away. need electronics specialist car stereo repair shop or some one like that to have a look .
  7. hello folks trying to solve ABS issues on a 964 1990 C2 manual cab. I get anti lock light come on after the car reaches 5-10mph with the buzzer sounding off as well. My question is this an a PST2 tester read the ABS module on a 1990 C2 ?? I think it cannot I believe the C4 ABS module can be read by a Porsche tester but the C2 cannot. The only way to read faults in C2 is possibly with hammer? or the ABS LED tool that plugs directly into the place where the ABS brain/ECU resides. it is annoying as I read that if a wheel speed sensor is faulty and you repair replace that wheel sensor the ABS has to be reset before fault clears or can you simply disconnect the battery to clear all fault codes?? any help would appreciated. Currently when I scan the 964 with a PST2 the DME,AIRCONDITIONING,AIRBAG are the only modules that highlight up as readable the remaining tiptronic, abs 5,& alarm module remain unlit ?? I understand the fact the tiptronic module will not light up as my car is manual, also the alarm module will not light up prehaps because the 1990 had a simple relay sort of factory alarm without the alarm ECU under the passenger seat. What I dont understand is why ABS is not highlighting? Maybe Loren can chime in and explain many thanks in advance.
  8. okay maybe my question was so dumb it did not warrant a response lol update the 986 Boxster part number key I got from ebay works fine with me 996 C4 Tip 1999 convertible , Once I obtained the Ipas codes it was very straight forward . I would like to add the only difference on the boxster key is that the second button has a diagram of opening the luggage compartment . However on my original key the second button was to activate the hood to make it open & close. The boxster key second button although the pic is wrong it still makes the hood go up & down. so all is well now to find some time so I can tinker with the 964 C2 cab so many mods to do.
  9. need help in figuring out would this key program up and work on a 1999 996 C4 Tip convertible ? The Key part number is 986.637.243.03 .The key is brand new with the remote programming bar code attached. My question is it is a two button remote fob for Porsche Boxster 986 part number ? But surely it should also work for a cab 996 the two buttons must be lock and soft top control ? any advice would be appreciated...
  10. Hi Loren would that be the service work shop CD for 996 porsche or the service manual for the PST2 ? also where does one obtain this manual ? many thanks Zak
  11. Hello folks , Does any one on here have the know how and can guide me step by step instructions on how to program a new key to a 996 using the PST2 Tester ? I have new key fob with bar codes on it and I have the Ipas codes for my car but need idiot safe instructions on where to go in the PST2 menu to do this task. many thanks
  12. IN the UK you can show them written proof of ownership take the queen with you and your car and they still wont give out Ipas codes so unfair I might try Porsche UK head office maybe they can help. I just dont understand the information relates to my car I am the owner have proof yet they still refuse to give out Ipas codes its handy even if you want to reset your ECU back to stock you still need Ipas info. I was hoping if I faxed the info to some one over the pond they could help me out.
  13. can any one help getting ipas codes for a 996 I have the paper work but in the UK the OPC wont give out that information reading on the forums people over the pond seem to get them fairly easy its not fair !!!
