  1. +2.....The impellar blew up, pieces went into coolant ports and blocked enough of them to blow the engine.
  2. I would find another mechanic anyway........He couldn't diagnose the AOS issue (most likely the problem here) which is pretty basic on P-cars. :rolleyes: As for the top, this is another issue that usually involves a little $$.
  3. Manual Transmission or Tiptronic?? This is probably the most important to certain folks. My '04 is closing in on 40k. :eek:

  5. Hello All! My '04 Boxster is coming up for it's first Smog Check for DMV Renewal. Now being somewhat mechanical, I am aware that the Tech has to check the timing and such on my other vehicles when Testing. However with the Boxster there is no checking under the hood for that. So, what can I expect when I pull up the the Smog Center?? Will they freak out, just charge more, or will it be (save for the expense of the Test), painless?? Thanks for Reading and Thanks RennTech!
  6. Wow! I'm amazed to read yet again about cracked windshields due to the weirdest of circumstances. It must be an "angle of attack" thing. A while back I was behind a huge construction truck when I saw it flick up a apricot sized rock and it was easy to see it cruising right for the windshield! It smacked the glass so hard my wife thought we were being shot at, and left 3 nice scratches where it hit, but didn't crack the glass! Amazing.
  7. A short noise means something is amiss in the motor are. Yes, you will have to put the top into "service" mode manually to see what's up. Good Luck!
  8. Power Stering pump?? Did you try turning the wheel hard both ways while the car is parked?? If it makes noise during this test, it's the P/S pump.

  10. For PK: The answer to your heating a broken stud in a block and why it works.........Cooling rate differential. The broken stud cools just a tad faster than the block, susequently the stud shrinks in the block and can be removed.
  11. FWIW, I've worked on a pile of different makes of cars, Import and Domestic and have NEVER used anti-seize on spark plugs. Not even the edge trimmer come to think of it. Never had a loose plug, and I don't own any plug hole taps either.
  12. Sounds like the Aux. A/C fan, it's really loud when perfectly functional. I can only imagine what it sounds like with a bad bearing.
  13. "Block 'o' Wood" ;) Kidding aside, try Sunset Porsche or the button at the top of Renntech's page. They make a puck for the jackstand/car interface during jacking. :D
  14. Normal for Flat Sixes, especially on the short trips. It's the White-ish smoke that you worry about. (AOS) Oh,....Welcome Aboard! :renntech:

  16. Do the engines on the 2004 Boxsters still use the inferior IMS bearing? I thought I read somewhere that it was improved upon by Porsche. I hope/wish? so.

  20. Yep, the wedge and the coat hanger trick, still does the trick. That's how the pros will do it when you aren't there to watch. ;)
