  1. uh oh....how would one diagnose this problem?
  2. the problem with my car is that the light wouldn't stay... LOL i don't know if that makes sense but the light merely flashed. It disappeared when i got my code reader ready. I plugged in the reader and it told me there was no code to be read....
  3. Hi Bill. I was stuck at the red light, not driving when it had happened. all of a sudden, i recall some vibration and it just stopped. The engine shut off but the power in the car was still on (the radio etc was still on). Do you think it's the MAF as well? heard somewhere this type of thing could be fuel pump or something ~_~
  4. Hi, today when i was driving, my car just turned off. Without so much as a warning, the car simply turned off (the radio was still working after this happened). All i had to do was restart the car and it seemed fine after that, no engine light. Now has this happened to anyone else and do you think it would be a serious problem? thanks :D **update Hi, thanks for those who have replied. i haven't driven the car over the weekend and today when i turned on the car, it idled really rough. I started backing up and felt something was seriously wrong. it got progressively worst so i put it in park. The engine light flashed on and off (twice) so i shut the car off. I turned it back on again and everything was fine. Could this be MAF as dr914jr described? thanks again
  5. Hi, i am looking into adding paddle shifters to my tiptronic boxster. Seems liek it would be a fun project. My question is whether all steering wheel will fit the boxster and whether others have tried this transplant (btw i am thinking of putting a either bmw or audi steering wheel into the porsche). any thoughts? think it's stupid? Also, i am aware there are certain aftermarket steering wheel out there but it's WAYYYY too expensive. so im going with the cheap route
  6. thanks fasterjam and RFM for the reply :D im glad nothing is wrong with the car
  7. Hi, i have this problem where after i turn off my car, it seems to do a popping/ cracking sound (almost like the sound of popping popcorn). anythings? thanks
  8. yeah i have actually but not sure exactly what is involved in putting something like that together. i think im give myself a rest before starting again. i've been putting off my school work too much ~_~
  9. :D im glad i've caught your attention. The modulator works great (of course it's still a modulator so don't have your hopes up TOO high) In terms of the quality of the sound, expect the absolute best signal you will ever get on your fm band. i must say the quality isn't that bad, gl with your choice. Also, the car pc is bascially just a pc in your car. since i can't rip out the stereo, i just decided add a pc in there so i can control all my songs or even videos, pictures etc in my car:D i simply took the power from the 12v thats not used which was meant for the phone. (i used the switched power). to power the fm modulator and bought 2 antenna adaptors. thanks for commenting
  10. i actually have been thinking of doing it for quite some time, but don't know how much the dealership is going to charge me. ~_~ unfortunately i live in canada so i can't take advantage of the work on car days you guys have over there. thanks a lot btw for all the help. Just hope it doesn't break again after i change it.
  11. Hey everyone. after about 3 months of waiting for my parts and extensive planning. I've finally semi finished my 1st car pc fabrication. i have my exams these couple of days so i don't really have time to post a step by step diy but here are some pictures, i hope you enjoy. I moved my stock radio to the lower section (had to kind of force it) since i have the MOST fiber optic and switching it out would be too costly and probably way too hard for me to do, so i added an fm modulator in and put it to my asus eee audio jack (btw, i should have mentioned the car pc is made from an asus eee) i then added a touch panel to the asus eee and wired a external power button to it. added an power inverter for the eee power source and fabricated my own bezel. (which actually took wayyyy more time than i thought) Update: Actually, not much to update but i loaded windows media center on my eee and it works pretty well. just a bit annoying since it makes a beep everytime i use the touchscreen (i might be able to shut if off, not sure yet) - as per the sound quality, i can't say it sounds the best, but for me, it certainly is not bad. if you put the volume too loud, it will sound distorted though. (and when you're not playing anything, there will be engine whine) <- if you have the modulator that shuts off when there is no audio input (i've only heard of these and havn't actually seen one), this should not happen. At the end, im just really happy with the result. As it turns out, for whatever reason my picture files are too big so i can't upload some of them...~_~
  12. AHH. thats what i was afraid of. so is the stalk a single unit or is it stuck with the windshield wiper and the cruise control? thanks for the quick reply
  13. Hi, sorry if someone already posted about this issue but im not entirely sure what keywords to search up. Basically my turn signal stalk doesn't seem to want to stay on the up (turn right) and basically pops back to the neutral position. If i have it down (left) then the signal stays but refuses to go back to neutral when i steer to the counter direction. it feels like something on the inside is stuck but doesn't really feel like it's broken. could someone shine some light to my problem? thank you so much
  14. Hi, im not too technical so i might be asking a stupid question. I was wondering if it's possible to put a 2002 boxster s muffler on my 2004 s? (thinking of modding the 2002 and don't want to play with the ones that came with my car). Will it throw any codes? anything to look out for if I have my mechanic do it for me? thank in advance
  15. Porsche diy 986 fm modulator install. Easy 1. Get all your parts together. I used the u10 and u20 antenna adaptors, audioxvox fm m100a (this one comes with a ground loop isolator (or something like that) which is suppose to improve sound quality, radio removal key (you can get this at ebay), rca to 3.5mm cable, splicer/connectors. Pretty much it. 2. Remove the radio with the radio keys. The straight end facing the outside. Plug it in. You should hear a click on both of them. Simply pull it out (if it gets stuck, kinda wiggle it to get it out) 3. Disconnect the radio antenna which should be on your right hand side. (there’s a little button on it to remove it) After removing, take the adaptor you bought and insert it into the radio. The other end of that should plug right into the fm modulator. (don’t connect the fm modulator yet). The other end which you disconnected from the radio should fit right into the second adaptor you got which will also connect to the fm modulator. 4. Thread the adaptor ends through the little whole at the back of where the radio use to be. (Should be on the left hand side) This threads close to where the telephone power cable should be. After threading through the hole and finding it on the other end, connect it to the fm modulator. The fm modulator will need power from the telephone power cable. You sound be able to find this after removing the batwing thing. (it’s not connected to anything if you don’t want the phone option) simple cut the brown and (depending on whether you want a switched connection or unswitched connection) red/green or green/black. Take the connectors and connect your fm modulator ground to the brown wire and the power to either red/green or green/black cable. 5. Take the rca to 3.5mm cable and connect it to the rca connection. 6. You can hide it where ever you want. Note: the wide panels (or batwings I think they’re called) can be easily removed by simply pulling on it. They’re held on with clips of some sort. Thanks for reading and thanks for those who helped me by asking questions and those who answered them. I hope this helps anyone looking to do something like this. Might post pictures of anyone requests them.
  16. Hi, i've been searching on this forum and can't seem to find info regarding 2003/4 boxster (with most) antenna adaptor. Im looking to fit in an audiovox fmm100a (apparently it comes with a ground loop isolator or something.... as you can probably tell, im not too knowledgeable. So if anyone knows anything about this please help :D Thanks in advance. (hoping to do a simple diy for ppl like me, if it works..of course) and also, do i need 1 adaptor or 2? one for the device to the radio and the other for the antenna to the device?
  17. WOOT IT WORKS NOW!!! sorry, i should have tried more things before asking. My battery was just out. Turns out i left one of the lights on and the drl works perfectly with the new relay. Thank you so much for all your help
  18. Hi Loren, i finally managed to get my hands on a drl and when i switched it in and tried to start the car, the engine won't "turn over"..i think thats the term. The lights on the dash starts flashing as i turn key....any clue? THanks again for the quick reply
  19. Hi loren, im not too knowledgable with cars ~_~ Do you mind telling me where the drl relay is and what i should look for? Thanks :D The relay is a double relay in positions 6 and 7. The relays are above the fuse bank. 6 7 would be second row from the top - 1st and second positions from the left from the left. If you do not have this relay then it is not likely a Canadian car. Thanks for the quick reply. Though with your detailed explaination, my limited car knowledge seems to bring me to a hault once again .. i took 2 pictures of the relay in hopes that you can help me. 1, did i even take out the right relay? (i took out the one from the far left) and how can i tell if something is wrong with it? (nothing seems to be wrong iwth it besides the sticker is bloated in certain area...) Thanks
  20. yeah, i checked the handbrakes. ~_~ doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks for your reply
  21. Hi loren, im not too knowledgable with cars ~_~ Do you mind telling me where the drl relay is and what i should look for? Thanks :D
  22. Hi guys, This is my story..the bought my 2004 boxster s about couple of months ago and my drl is running fine. (btw, mine is a canadian model) since it's winter now, my car has been in my garage for about a month or so. Every so often i would turn on the car and sit in it for fun. This time, i've noticed that my lights no longer turn on when i turn on my car. I've checked the fuses (e1) i believe. and it seems to be fine. does anyone know what the problem is? if it helps, my headlights work when i turn them on manually. just not the drl, which usually turns on when i start my car. 0_0
  23. Yup, they are. Seems to be in a slightly lower position than if you were to turn on your headlights tho...or maybe it's just me. Thats actually what made me think i had auto lights at the beginning
  24. it seems to be running fine now...which makes me even more confused.. btw, i live in Toronto, markham
  25. unfortunately im not really located close to any dealerships where i live. If there really was a problem with the car, im kinda of afraid to drive it that far. btw, the car is has about 80, 000 km on it. (im canadian). LOl, im just really hoping im as lucky as you were with your bm.
