  1. What we are doing is controversial and we do get our share of "doubt", thats for sure.. But its just because we chose to work with a problematic engine and then to hot rod it to a level that no one else could imagine... In my experience the doubt has been a catalyst to my development and a driving force to take our data collection to the highest level. This isn't my first Rodeo with developing problematic engines and I am used to the negative aspects of doing so. Remember: We started out ONLY doing modifications and creating components that would enhance reliability of these engines, but it didn't take long to see that the performance could be capitalized on as well. Thanks Jake. I'm not doubting you, I have just never heard of a street install of any of your engines. I was curious if there are any out there w/ some miles on them (30k+) yet and how they working in comparison to the factory engines. You have a viable option should a failure happen that I would consider for my car.
  2. I was wondering, are there any of your engines in the field, in service??? I'm curious about any real world data. Do they run warm in traffic (due to larger bore) , how do they handle being driven daily, you know, stuff like that.
  3. my favorite mod is to install the nut behind the wheel :drive:
  4. Congrats on the purchase!!!! I've sent you a pm w/ a bit of info.
  5. I would check with the loal PCNA chapter and see who they would recommend. That's what I did when my 964 was attcacked by a rain gutter downspout (WHY didn't i MOVE the **** car :cursing: ) I found the local porsche specialist shop and it goes in on monday. One thing is for sure, they are expensive to have painted correctly.
  6. We posted at the same time :P Glad you got it fixed and it was a simple repair.
  7. I'll throw some ideas out. Since it was ran into a ditch, the first place i would look is on the side that went into the ditch. I would look for: Bent wheel, bent tie rod, bent half shaft (most likely imho) or a wrecked c/v joint. Since it only happens in weather, that shows the all wheel drive is comeing on and causing the wheel shimmy. Resetting the comp. just reset the awd. I really think you bent something though.
  8. I don't believe that there is any to the switches. When you do the switch mod, you are only supplying a ground path. I'm probably wrong, but it's 4 am and I don't want to look at a schematic :P
  9. This is a good subject. There was a HUGE discussion on another board on the same subject. A known "engine builder" stated that the car should be warmed up to 180 to prevent slipped sleeves and other failures :o I let it warm up for a while just like you do. Maybe they are worried about the enrichment circut washing down the cyls. when it's just sitting there.
  10. We use a similar process to this on aircarft windscreens called micromesh. The grits go up to 5000. It's not really sanpaper though, it's specifically made to be used with water. The clarity after the process is unbelievable. Nice job on the lenses, they came out great :clapping:
  11. Yeah, my '91 has one, and it's an early model build. It would be interesting to know when they actualy started installing them.
  12. According to Adrian Streathers book, only 1991 US cars had CEL's for CA. emmision requierments.
  13. I've seen that video before. It's straight through. You can buy all of the parts you need either used or from fabspeed. I think it would be cool for a minute, but then it would just RATTLE my brain. You also would have no chance in hell of passing a smog test. It sounds bad *** on someone else's car though :D.
  14. Yep, a lot of people have. I just did about 2 weeks ago. Works perfect. But honostly, I pretty much just leave it on the oat all the time
  15. Here is a pretty good tutorial: http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/obc.stalk.pdf and another: http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/OBC.pdf
  16. The instructions are here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...2&hl=yoseif The switch I got from a local recycler in Rancho Cordova for $10. Sunset has them new for around $30.
  17. I did the OBC hack today following tool pants suggestions/directions. Everything went perfect and works as advertised. In case anyone local wants to do this, Niello VW has the wireing. Both the 010 and the 009 are in stock and run 5 bux each. The only thing that went wrong is the dash light for my oil level/clock burned out. Is there an alternative source for these, or are they Porsche only? The dealer wants 8 each for the thing and I can get it M/O for 1
  18. Well, my window cracked last week while putting the top in service mode. Talk about a *****!!!! Does any one in the SAC area have a recomendation on where to have a new rear window sewn in?? I'm not real keen on trying it myself, I took auto shop instead of home ec. in school  Thanks for any help.
  19. The selector light is on the same circut as the interior light. Is the wireing shorting on the light side?? Pull the socket out between the visors. Mine was broken back there.
  20. Yep.. that fixd mine also.. Fuse #11 in the fuse box.
  21. O.K. Spent all moening getting her detailed....
  22. Hi, We just bought a '91 C2 cab, GP white (the fast color) with a tip. I have a couple of ?'s about and am sure I can get the help I need here. On the tip indicator light, the red light only displays when the running or headlights are on. Is it supposed to be on all the time? If so, where would I start looking? ( saw another post on this with no response, maybe it's normal??) Can the A.C. be turned on any time? or only when the OAT is high enough? The ashtray wont stay closed. Is there a fix for this? What brake pads are wothwhile?? I'm guessing stock is pretty good. I'll post some photos in a bit. Thanks for any help!! Tom
