  1. before you say so, I have searched on the replacement side vents and found the one I needed - the cayman vent swap thread. I am keen to do this too - has anyone actually done it and does anyone have any tips on removing the side vents without breaking anything - the other post made it look too easy...any tips? (i can't paste the link for some reason, sorry!)
  2. Thanks again Berty - that makes a lot of sense. Annoying that they can't seem to pin things down at the OPC as succinctly as that!
  3. That's very strange. I have the TMC and that works fine, I believe ths car had an update sometime around 6 months after it was first sold. If there's not much else on there apart from a software update (which I have been told is 100 pouns odd) and that doesn't make a lot of difference then I might leave it. The OPC told me that the software is out of date and that there is a newer map however they can't tell me when it was released or what the details are for some reason. I'm not about to pay for an update that is a few years old and/or about to be outdated by a newer version. I'll check my disk on the weekend for what part it is - can you let me know what the "latest" one is? thanks!
  4. Can you please tell me what the latest part number and release date is for the satnav updates? I have been told my car needs an update but I don't want to bother if it is either old or there is one coming out soon. The dealer has only been able to tell me that it needs an update and nothing else. Many thanks (I'm in the UK - car is a 2005 987s and had an update done some time in 2005/6)
  5. i can only see a little hole behind the handle and no light at all (despite tuning up to 100%). Is the bulb actually visible or is it hidden behind the hole? i'm wonderng if this is either an extra which i don't have or if the leds have disappeared into the doors. can't see anything on either side (but the window switches light up fine). ay ideas or are they so feeble that you can't really see them at all?
  6. Hi berty987 ! forgot to mention I have done Tesco on monthly direct debit as well - no extra charge. I haven't heard anyone's experiences on the Tesco one yet as I believe it is still a relatively new product (November 08?)
  7. UK! i got the tesco warranty, haven't needed to use i yet but it looked like the same cover. if you have a gap in the porsche warranty you have to get the 111 check done ahead of taking out a new porsche warranty. it starts getting expensive. given rms and ims re the main things that bother me i took out the tesco one.
  8. i have an 05 987 - it is a 3.2....i'm guessing it must be a m96? dunno......porsche can't even tell me whether i have the redesigned IMS or not. i have spoken to a few specialists and i don't think it makes a lot of difference what year you get up to the new car released this year as the engines are all a variation on a theme. it seems (as renzop says) that unless you get new then you run the same risks on either engine. have a look on the web, there's lots of chatter on this. my experience is a busted RMS, this was replaced with a new designed part, seems ok so far. most cars that will leak have done so and should have had this fixed by now.....which leave your IMS question.....and that seems to be something that a lot of people have an opinion on but no definitive answer.
  9. was the 987 changed earlier than the 997? i don't have a new engine in my 05 987, just the one it left the factory with. ah well, i do have crossed fingers!
  10. Hi RFM - how can I tell when the new IMS was released? is there a chassis/engine range to look out for?
  11. i asked about this but was told the car also needs the front spoiler to maintain aerodynamic integrity. i gave up as i don't hate the current one enough to spend 4k pounds changing it.
  12. Hi - I have been researching this as I have a May '05 3.2 S - 987. How do I find out whether the car has the new design? I am two months away from a new warranty, still undecided. I have spoken to a couple of porsche mechanics all who say the problem of the seals seems to have died down and was more frequent in the 986. I want to keep the car for a while, hence why I bought one with all the toys and with 10.5k miles. have had it a year......11k miles. I am getting to a point where this has taken the edge of owning the car as I am now worried about a fail. I'm bang on the mid 2005.... the OPC has said to bring it in and they can give the rms a check over but with the provisor that it might look fine today but go pop tomorrow. how can i find out if the car is a good 'un or likely to fail? Thanks
  13. where's the plug in the footwell? i have the one in the ashtray and one in the centre console but haven't noticed the footwell one....mines a rhd car. pointers appreciated as i'm picking up the new camera detector tomorrow!
