  1. Hi, Just thought I'd share my experience... ever since I first got my '98 996 C2 I've felt that although acceleration was very strong up to about 4500 rpm, after this point accelearation dropped off as the revs increased. The effect was always very smooth no spluttereing, no CEL light, just a steady drop in acceleration as the revs climb. As time has gone on it has gradually got worse, this morning I went for a test run, foot to the floor in third gear, as the revs climbed the acceleration began to drop off as usual but for the first time the revs would not pass 5000 even with my foot buried in the carpet!!! I had changed the fuel filter recently which hadn't helped so today I decide to try cleaning the MAF. I simply removed it, gave it a good spray with electrical contact cleaner (not proper MAF cleaner) let it dry and put it back in. I can honestly say the result is amazing! the drop off in power at high revs is COMPLETELY gone. The car now pulls like mad all the way from 1000 rpm to the red line with no hesitation. Throttle repsonse at low revs seems crisper also. The MAF didn't even look dirty, the wire inside the MAF (visible through the slot) was however slightly dull compared to being shiny after I cleaned it. So this is what a 911 is supposed to be like! My car has NEVER driven as well as this, I wish I'd tried it alot earlier!
  2. Hi, I need to replace the front drop links on the front stabiliser on my 98 996 C2. I slackened off the bottom 15mm bolt (drop link to stabilizer) and disconnected that end of the drop link from the stabilizer. I slackened the larger bolt on the suspension strut (the upper threaded part of the drop link appears to clamp the whole wheel hub to the suspension strut?) I backed the nut all the way to the end of the thread and then gave a few taps with a hammer but the drop link wont budge? Once the top nut is off is it just a case of applying a bit of force with a hammer to drive the threaded shaft out of the hub or does the top connection need to be unscrewed from the hub (there is a hex right next to the balljoint which can be gripped with an open ended spanner) Thanks
  3. Hi, I have just discovered oil dripping from the big chain tensioner nut on the left bank (cyl 1,2,3)of my engine (1998, 996 UK, RHD). It seems to be coming from where the nut screws into the engine and not dripping from further up. I understand replacing the seal is fairly cheap and simple to do but can I just go ahead and unscrew it or do I risk messing up the chain tension/valve timing? Are there any special precautions to take before removing it? Thanks!
