  1. Thanks to Loren for a great write up and to Danyol for great photographs. I changed my drive belt this past week and would like to add a few things I learned along the way. 1- getting the belt off is significantly easier than getting the new belt on! 2- leave the new belt in the sun so it will warm up and be a little easier to stretch while getting on. 3- I needed a second person to help pull the tensioner while I slipped the belt on the last pulley. 4- I was able to do this without removing the servo pump wheel. Thanks again Sameer
  2. what was involved in replacing the alternator? was it simple or did it need any special tools? Thanks Sameer
  3. what are the benifits of the EVO Shift Link, i only use the car as a daily driver. do i need it with the B&M short shifter? thanks, Jacob the only benefit of the Evo shift linkage is that it is stronger and won't break. the short shifter will work either with or without it.
  4. an aftermarket exhaust should be enjoyable both from a performance as well as aural stand point. If your ears are being ripped and you have to keep the car in the sweet spot, I'd just swap back to stock or sell the current exhuast on Ebay and buy another brand.....
  5. After 1500 miles you will be deaf....? Europipes are the best! I feared as much.....my fault for not doing the research. After 1500 miles, there is no way they are going to exchange it for something else, so I guess I start the fight, sorry, negotiation now. I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise that when they remove 28 lbs of material from a muffler, there must be a trade off. I can't believe Porsche would leave that weight saving on the table if it were as easy as this. Less weight = fewer intricacies inside the muffler like baffles and choke tubes to deal with resonances. Thanks for the info. I tried the Fabspeed but was disappointed with the drone. I currently have Remus and am very happy with the sound and lack of drone.
  6. I had a quote from my local Porsche dealer for about $800.
  7. thanks for the write up. Are you using stock WG's or aftermarket?
  8. For those interested in this project, I attempted to do it myself and would not recommend trying it. In addition, the red gauges are too dark and I did not like them once I got them in the car. Without going into all the details, the whole project turned into a mess. I now have a new GT2 silver gauge cluster and love it. My old cluster will be put back to stock one I get it working again (it’s too painful to explain what happened) ok I'll bite, What happened?
  9. is it that the linkage between the cable and the shifter is broken? maybe you need an Evo billet shift linkage?
  10. You'll need the spoiler spanner tool- I found mine on Ebay for about $10.
  11. droning is a severe resonance that typically occurs with aftermarket exhaust systems. The drone is usually apparent at a particular rpm range (2-3K rpm) and is present with windows up and more pronounced with windows open.
  12. I've had the Kumho's also and for the bang for the buck, the other more expensive tires are too hard to justify....
  13. I've jack it at that point numerous times without any consequence....yet!
  14. sounds like a nice car although a bit pricey for non X50....
  15. get the 996TT. It has a different engine which may prove more reliable in the future. Additionally, while you may not need the additional power now, trust me, in a short while, you'll be wondering where you can get more! Good luck Sameer
  16. Looking for a DIY instructions for removing stock turbos and replacing with upgrades turbos. Anybody got instructions or can point me in the right direction? Thanks Sameer
  17. "your wife's daily driver"! YOU Sir, are a better husband than I will ever be! :notworthy:
  18. one other thing to keep in mind the ability and ease of modifications. The TT with an ecu flash and exhaust is easily good for another 100+ horsepower and with new turbos, some people are putting out 700hp! I doubt similar modifications are possible for the 997. Good Luck! Sameer
  19. question for the motorheads: is it possible to replace O2 sensors without removing the whole exhaust unit? I realize that they are easy access once the cats are out but was hoping not to have to remove the whole exhaust assembly to access them Thanks Sameer
  20. ended up figuring it out by myself. The fan is located in the passenger foot well- just remove a couple of screws to remove the access plate and it is right there. I removed the fan and tried to oil it. It was quiet for about a week but then started squeeking again. I called my local dealer and was quoted a price of $495 for a new replacement blower/ fan motor. Luckily, I was able to find the same part over the internet for $325. Pays to shop around. Regards Sameer
  21. Hey Guys, My 01 996TT's climate control fan seems to be sqeeking intermittently. I'd like to remove it and either lubricate the bearing or replace it altogether. Did a search but couldn't find what I needed. Where is the climate contro fan located? How is it accessed- under dash or through trunk- schematic would be great! Thanks in advance Sameer
  22. Loren or anyone else, does anybody have instructions on how to bleed/ adjust the hydraulic system for the 996TT rear deck spoiler? Mine is going up unevenly although I have yet to see a "spoiler failure light". Thanks Sameer
