Gee Loren, how do you know all this stuff? :clapping:

Looking to replace top on my '01 Porsche Boxster. The rear window is cracked and was told by the Porsche dealership in Barrington, IL the whole top needs to be replaced. I was given a rough estimate of $2,700 just for parts. Now, I'm considering my options and trying to figure out the best plan of attack for replacing the window/entire top. My current headliner has been warped in the front and hangs low, this too will need replaced. Now my question: If I go for the GAHH or Robbins top, will I also be able to get a headliner for it? And will it fit? What would be a reasonable price to pay for an installation? And if there are any IL people here, where should I go?
Thanks!
You can buy a GAHH top for under 800 and Install it yourself. save yourself 1900 dollars!

Thats the one!! Thanks!! :D

Ok all, I have heard people reference the back seat access panel several times.
I have looked back there and I do not see an obvious panel.
How do you access this?
Thanks all

I see about 32 on the highway. Commuting highway and city I average about 25.
99 2.5

Ok, went and got an electric meter thingy, and with the car off, the battery fully charged, it read about 26ma.
what does his mean?

Thanks Loren, I will try this later on today I hope.

Hello all, I replaced my battery a couple of months ago as the old one went dead in the middle of 0 degree temps sitting in my garage.
Now the new battery is dead if the car sits for a few days.
Are there certain battery drains that these cars are known for? I can not seem to figure out how to find a battery drain.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Shawn

Hmmm, My boxster is doing the same thing, no noise when cold, then it itermittently ticks when its warm at idle. Do the boxster motor and the 996 motor have the same type of valves?
Oh, 99 2.5 with 92000 and 0-40 mobile 1
-
Ok, I have this ticking noise coming from the drivers side of the motor. You cannot hear it from the outside, just when you are sitting on the inside.
It does not tick at startup or when it is cold. It does not tick all the time. I usually hear it when I slow down and come to a stop light. If i rev the car up real quick, when it returns to idle it is gone, but sometimes it comes back and sometimes it does not.
It sounds exactly like a valve ticking, but I cannot figure it out. Its too intermittent.
Any ideas?

I found myself excited when I hit 91000 miles last week. Whats wrong with us? shouldn't we be babying these things?.......... NAAAAAAAA
drive them till they blow!!!

I refuel while my cars are running, no worries about theft where I live.
I will not do that with the boxster though, too finicky of a vacuum system.

Hello all, I am trying to find out if my 99 is an early year 99 or a late year 99. What is the cutoff month? Mine says 10/98.
Also, I see references to MY01 MY02 what do those mean?
Thanks all,
Shawn

Ok, at what rpm's do people feel the lugging line is?
I drive casual until the spirited driving bug grabs me.
By casual I mean shift about 3-3500 and cruise at 3. Highway is 5th gear 70ish @ 3
Is that lugging?

Anyone have suggestions as to who might have the best deals on motor mounts?
Also, what do we recommend for spark plugs?

Hey all, I have a stupid ?
I have a couple of rough spots in my accelleration. 1 at about 2500 and another at about 3800. You cant feel them when accelerating hard, just under slow acceleration or deceleration.
I cleaned my MAF and it helped a bit but i can still feel it.
In my area, I only have access to 91 gas.
could gas be an issue?
what octane does my 99 2.5 boxster need?

Does anyone have a digital copy of the Jim Pasha M96 article in Excellence?
I cannot find the magazine in my small town.
Thanks all

What a pain in the tush that was.
I finally finished the window. (hand sewed it)
when I went to put the top back on the car, my motors on either side of the car have gotten about one tooth off from each other so one side actuates first.
I have no idea how to get it back to normal.
After i removed the top, out of curiosity I closed the clamshell and I think that is where the problem started.
I dont quite know what to do. It works, just not like it did before. :(

Lately my boxster has developed 2 things,
1. It has a small intermittent ticking noise, sounds like a valve. It does not do it all the time and it is very faint. Is some valve noise to be expected?
2. right after cleaning and oiling my K&N air filter, I noticed a rough spot at about 2400 rpms. I took the K&N out and replaced it with the OEM filter.
Think its the MAF? and is it easy to clean?
Thanks all

Ok, I had to order the kit off of ebay from the miata guy back in October. I tried to get ahold of junniinc but he was away till a few days ago. The kit off ebay is a joke. The only thing you can use in the kit is the plastic and the thread. The instructions are so over photocopied that you cannot see the pics. I asked for a better copy and he said he did not have one.....?
Anyway, I wish I could have ordered the kit from junniinc.
Now, I have a few ?s
I have removed the frame and top, cut the new window, marked the top and bottom center, lined up the old window with the new and poked the same holes in. Should I have poked the holes in? I am usng the 2 needle method and it took 2 hours to go 12 inches. Am I missing something? Is there a way to use my sewing machine with the top still on the frame?
Also, can I add the seam sealer after it is sewn together?
Help please!!!!! :)
