  1. Wow...sounds like you had a bad run with the GTI. I got a 2006, first one on the lot in Northern VA, and had ZERO problems in 3 years of ownership...no squeaks, no rattles, nothing. Had it modded out pretty well with ECU programming, aftermarket suspension, intake, wheels, short-shifter and lot more...car loved the mods and never gave me a hiccup. The end of the term was coming and I had a choice to refi or trade, so I went with the Boxster. I miss my Dub until I'm behind the wheel of the Porsche. Now I have to wait and see if it's as trouble free as the Dub was  A pic for nostagia's sake:
  2. I have the silver bulbs all the way around...the only thing I havent done (and am hesitant to do) is the orange filter removal. Maybe one day when my hands are feeling extra steady :)
  3. Front plates are required in VA, so I already have the front bumper drilled. Having the euro plate allows me to have something to clip the VA plate onto while Im driving (already had 2 tickets for no front plate on my previous GTI). Eventually, I plan on a Show-n-go retractable plate holder and some color matched bumper plugs. Not a priority right now though.
  4. Hey all. Been tooling around RennTech for a few weeks now...have learned a lot already. Just got into my first Porsche a few weeks ago...have always wanted one, but never thought I'd have the means. It's an 02 "S" with 21,000 miles, Litronics, and stock 17"s (for now). Upgraded the sidemarkers, tails and the shifter (to a B&M) so far. As for the rear plate, it's nostalgic. I've been in the VDub tuning scene for years, but I still consider myself part of the [extended] family.
  5. Hey guys. I've seen a few people have the aspherical mirror listed in their signatures, but I can't seem to find them anywhere online. Here's a that shows what Im talking about: http://www.toolworks.com/bilofsky/boxster/mirrors.html Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.
  6. I won't use anything but 303 Aerospace protectant on my interiors. It's a little expensive, but worth the extra cost. It doesnt take a lot and should last a year or so. It makes vinyl and leather look new and lustrous, without the cheap-looking shine that most others give. Don't know what kind of shape your wheels in, but this might help.
  7. I used Castrol Syntec 5W-40 in my turbocharged GTI for three years and had great results. Even after 7 to 10K miles between changes it still looked a lot cleaner than some others I've used, plus its readily available at Advance, AutoZone, and Wal-mart. Plus, its Porsche approved. Here a list of other approved oils for our cars. Cheers.
  8. Sounds like the immobilizer to me. Can't imagine what would trigger that while driving though. Good luck!
  9. That's what I thought, but just wanted to double check. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for all the replies. Good ideas, all :) Does anyone know the answer the original question I posed? Is the bonnet on the 986 the same for all years up to the 987?
  11. I grew up in NC and never realized how easy it is to get out of a ticket with a lawyer....living in DC now, its a different story. I know a guy in Greensboro, but don't know if he'll be of any use to you. Send me a pm if you want his name. Cheers.
  12. Hey all. This is my first post as Im 4 days into Porsche ownership. Picked up a mint 02 Boxster S with only 21K miles this week. I occasionally take trips out of state and am looking for a hood guard. I had one on my GTI and it did a great job protecting against rock chips. The only one I can find for the Boxster states that it fits the 1999 model, but not the 2002. Visually, the hoods look the same...is there a difference? Thanks in advance for the replies.
