  1. http://www.geocities.com/esklut/Erics996.html I kept the site alive and there is a link to the airbag light fix. I guess the key is that you need to do the full fix to get this to go away for good.
  2. I agree with most here. It's high mileage for the year, he's a poseur with the 'S' badge (not a strike against the car though), and who knows what you're facing in repairs. It's not a fun process when these things go, and it will go out someday. I'd continue your search. You'll eventually find what you are looking for.
  3. If you want cheap, go cheap. Nothing beats a full high temp cleanout, bead blast and full powder coat. Would you also repaint your car with touchup? :)

  5. Has anyone been through the removal and installation of the 3rd brake light cover, as would be done on an aerokit? (996) This is the long piece that replaces the current brake light, and has the "PORSCHE" logo on it, so the brake light is no longer visible, and the rear wing has the other light in it. Just need info on the existing one being removed/replaced. I need some step by step info if you have it. Thanks!
  6. Most of the cars have small white grommets. Those go in first. A hole in the center takes a small screw, through the rubber pod. THAT is the screw I'm talking about. Go a bit larger on that one, and the grommet should spread into the hole for you.
  7. Ditch the plate, order from BumperPlugs.com. Done. :) Sounds like your holes were reamed. Try a larger screw into the white anchor, and that should hold it in, if you are compelled to run with a front plate.
  8. 1. It is illegally parked over the line 2. Orient Red Metallic, a color not offered pre-2000 model year, with 1998-1999 headlights 3. Unknowing owner mistakenly thought they had to mount a front plate, and did not put in BumperPlugs first
  9. What are you driving? Standard 996 and Boxsters all have factory punched 6mmx7mm holes, and we provide plugs, of course. But you should NOT have to drill anything on those models.   10. It can happen but there are no odds on it either way at this point. Do you have the measurements your tech made on the area? Get them, I did. Mine was .24 out of round. If it's .30 or more, it's engine replacement. I also found out that just because it measures within tolerance at one time, does NOT mean it will stay that way. Best of luck.

  13. My '04 C4S Cab began showing a few signs of oil about a month ago (took delivery May '04). Small spot in same location, about the size of a quarter. Not a puddle, not black, but light brown, almost looks like a smudge. Not there each day. Car might sit 3-4 days, then spot. Otherwise nothing much. Only slight drop in oil measurement noticed. Service appointment next week. Yeah, I'm concerned about RMS, but figure it might be something less dramatic. Hoping, anyway. Thoughts?
  14. Found it! The leather side panel where it meets the rear firewall (behind the back seat, driver's side). Not sure yet what the fix will be, but located the source at least. Thanks.
  15. Dealer tech worked on it for a while, no luck. Thought it was the rear firewall area behind the seats, tightened up a few things. It is not the window, and does not seem to be coming from inside the rear interior quarter panel (had those noises in my old '99 Cab). Also does not seem to be either rear or driver's window. Can hold pressure on all these areas and noise is still there. More of an annoying clicking sound than rattle. Are there some TSB's on an '04 C4S Cab with a rattle from the rear? Everything seems tight as a tick, but nothing is working so far. Seems to be near the higher side of the vehicle, not down low in the seats. Thanks in advance.

  17. OK, I've read about a dozen posts over the past year about the Becker in the '04 and the quirky problems. So I had my head unit replaced last week. Big deal...NO CHANGE. My V60 interfaces well with it, but every 3rd or 4th call causes the radio to go blank display with audio. Turn it off (sound stays on) and back on, and now all presets are back to '0' for no reason. Sometimes just startup causes this, sometimes phone calls, sometimes no reason. What I can't understand is how Becker can produce these units over and over and over, and they have the SAME problem. I asked my tech about it, and he says next step is replace the amp. What a pain in the butt. And all for a radio! Geez, it took me 5 months just to bring it in for this (and a few other minor issues) because I'd rather hear the PSE than the crappy radio anyway! Anyone have a better solution? Why hasn't Becker figured out the software glitch, and ponied up a simple 'insert this cd in the unit' software upgrade or something that actually works?
  18. It's urethane. Are you planning to fix this yourself? Probably best to get a high end body shop involved, and see how long they've been working with plastic. Experience will pay off here.
  19. What year is the car? Sometimes you need to reset the drop on reverse by leaving the car in reverse gear when setting the seat memory, and that might reset it. Otherwise it could be a dealer service call.
  20. I bought a spare set on eBay for around $500 from a '99 (when I owned my '99) and had them cleaned, bead blasted, rebuilt with new bleeders, bleeder screw boots and piston boots, professionally powdercoated in red with white porsche lettering. Pristine job, a few hundred bucks I think. Unfortunately I sold the car before I could install them. Now that I have the '04 C4S Cab, I don't need 'em. Just sold 'em on eBay a week or two ago. Email me and I'll dig out the contact for the powder coating if you want to go that route. eric@bumperplugs.com :drive:
  21. Couple of thoughts: the replacement handle from the factory should be in the $130 range from most dealers, and a simple solution. Yes, we can paint it. We are in some trials now with a newer alumalook finish, but a lot will depend on the year. In the earlier models of the 996/Box, the alumalook package matched Arctic very well. In the more recent years, '03+ the alumalook seems to be a bit more grainy and with a matte clear finish. We are working on some test parts now to match that finish. What year is your vehicle? Is the door pull grainy looking in any way, or a smooth look?
