  1. I've got a handful of local FM stations that have been set for four years, and they all work just fine, but the call letters displayed are wrong.

I've even contacted the station engineers, but nothing resolved.

One even shows a west coast series of letters starting with a K, the other just wrong altogether.

Did not see anything in the manuals or online about manually setting call letters for radio stations.

    Odd....

  2. For those of you who have installed the Dension 500SBT (not the older Gateway 500), there is a new firmware release available now.

  3. We like to call it Black, Red and Fast as Hell!

With some new BumperPlugs goodness added in for good measure.
Customer with 2010 GT3 updated interior with some painted trim:
Gloss Piano Black Rear Center Console
Gloss Piano Black Front and Rear sections for console
    Guards Red Shifter Trim
We know the stuff looks great when we complete the work and ship, but we don't always get to see it on final installation.
Thanks Eric J for sending the images! Drive safe.

  4. Um, guess I can weigh in here. Our paint process is quite unique, and is not a quick spray job. The paint process itself involves over 15 stages, and requires nearly 9 working days to complete.

Spraying the rubber bumperette with a rattle can of paint, even the best paint, will give you nothing more than pebble textured, rubbery looking finish, in the color of your choice. It will likely spider and crack within days.

When ours are completed, they are smooth, flexible, and mimic the same finish as the bumper. Moving slowly through the process, something we've learned in 14 years of painting rubber, is key. We cure every stage of the finish, so that in the end you get something worthy of installing on a fine vehicle like this, AND something that will last a long time. We have our painted bumperettes on some vehicles over ten years, and they look as good as new. You cannot, under even the best skill, achieve that with a rattle can in the backyard.

But of course, some people will try. And I can't blame them. But it's $249, not $300, for the complete painting, and it does take a long time and a lot of labor to complete. Shipping does add some cost.

Many thanks....and VP, they look stunning!

  5. Cavs - did you get your Dension from us at BumperPlugs.com?

We have direct access to Dension Engineering, and have worked with Dension for more than five years as primary distributor, AND as a result of our participation in the Apple Development Group, discovered this charging issue some time back when the i4 was intro'd.

We carry the iPhone 4 cable and boosters to charge the i4. The issue is twofold: 1) if you plan to connect to the Gateway via cable from the device, you must have the iPhone 4 cable (available on our Order page at BumperPlugs.com), and/or 2) if you need to have charging for the device on the cable, you'll need the booster as well. Boosters have not yet landed in the US but will be in our warehouse in just a couple of weeks.

The iPhone 4 cable charges at 1/2 the power rating of the iPhone 4, so it WILL still charge without the booster, but will take longer. The booster allows full speed charging. And for those using an iPhone 4 with the older cable, forget it - you need the iPhone 4 cable.

But another note: many of our customers know they can stream audio via Bluetooth with our Dension Kits that have the BTA1500, so they don't use the cable at all.

For those of you with older Densions, the iPhone 4 cable may not suffice (older, as in first generation - third gen is what we sell now, and we ALWAYS have the newest boxes in inventory as we receive shipments about every ten days).

Harperb and Thunder - if you bought from us, we're here for support, just email me so I can try to help resolve.

  6. Hi All

I've got a facelift 996 with some sliver trim on the centre airvents slats. I'm trying to figure out what the acutal colour is so that I can get the side airvent slats painted to match. Any tips on how I can do this?

    Thanks!

Those vent slats are Alumalook. It's not an easy formula to match. We've done it for years, but we won't paint a/c vent slats. The film build is the issue. If they are painted now, and you need them to be re-done, they may have too much material on them once completed (if done right) and then they won't move correctly.

We do most of the other interior parts in any finish, including alumalook. Feel free to email me.

Here's a 996 Turbo interior we did a few years ago, all Alumalook:

  7. Hi all,

Really hope some tech wiz can help here, topic title kind of says it all but in detail..

Vehicle is a 997 C2S 2006 with PCM 2.1 and v3 software with satnav and bose, no CDC.

I installed the GW 500 and initially all was ok, worked perfectly. I then did the firmawre upgrade with FW from the dension site. the .ROM file was deleted from the USB stick, but no .bin file to say new firmware upgraded. Now when i start the unit the PCM does not see a CD Changer and the ligt on the dension flashes a few times and goes out...not good.

Is there any way to recover from a failed firmware update or do i have a £300 paperweight?

    Any advice most appreciated!

Did you try the RESET button on the Aux switch? Often this clears past histories and puts things back in order.

You can email us for firmware anytime too (not sure where you bought your unit, but there are some unscrupulous resellers out there who don't support their customers. We do.). We have earlier versions too, and have had a few situations where reverting to an earlier version, then reset, then move to a newer version, then reset, did the trick.

  8. Hello, I drive a 2007 Porsche 997S with Bose premium sound system and navigation. I would like to add a handsfree Blue Tooth and satellite radio receiver at a reasonable price. Suggestions?

Our Dension kits can handle this, but you will need a sat radio module. The Dension will allow you to tap the MOST bus, allowing any other source connected to the Dension to route audio directly to the optic loop. iPod, Bluetooth, Aux and USB. Sat Radio module should have audio out, and you run your audio to the Aux switch of the Dension, bringing the audio straight to the MOST bus.

To get full sat radio display on PCM is a heavier move, requiring new OEM parts and wiring harnesses, but it can be done (though much more costly than doing the Dension).

Email me with any questions: eric@bumperplugs.com

  9. I have a 2006 C4S Cab with the factory installed ($900) telephone option. I want to remove the module, or at least take it off the the MOST fiber optic loop and install a feedback closure instead. I know I need to then have the PCM re-programmed by the dealer in order to take the telephone out of the system as I am installing a BT module, which can't co-exist with the factory installed telephone module.

But, I am having a hard time finding out where the physical location of the telephone module is. I have been told it is under the passenger seat, but have looked... and it is not there. I have a service manual for my car but it is dismal when it comes to servicing this option. Looks like from one graphic illustration it might be in the driver's side dash above the instrument cluster?

Does anyone know where the factory telephone module was installed on my year and model Porsche? Also, depending on where it is located, can someone point me to a website or information which would help advise on how to get to it?

    Thanks, John.

    Email me anytime: eric@bumperplugs.com

We can advise on both removal/deprogramming of the factory phone module, and other BT options if you want to add true Bluetooth to the vehicle.

  10. First remove head lights to gain better access to the nozzle opening.

Insert a small flat head screwdriver (with tape on the head to prevent damage to nozzle) into the opening in the nozzle head and pull the spray nozzle up and out (there is quite a suction on the nozzle so a second pair of hands is useful here to hold nozzle up from the stalk when it is up)

Hold the nozzle head at the top and disengage the catch on the spray nozzle with a very small (watchmakers) screwdriver. The nozzle head is released. Insert replacement nozzle into head (locks into place) and release nozzle, which returns to its original place.

    Refit head lights

  11. Hell all,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of the Dension Gateway 500. My son in law wants one and is going to take advantage of the cheaper prices in the USA so would like a name of a supplier that will get the unit sent to his West Florida address.

    Your suggestions are warmly welcomed

    Thanks guys

+1 on Bumperplugs! Great Service both before, during, and after purchase.

We have new shipments from Dension every ten days....in stock and ready to go!

    Thanks.

  12. Since we handle Dension and NavTV products more than the mObridge, I don't have specific knowledge of this issue, but one question: have you contacted mObridge for tech support?

Most of the mfrs do offer support for setups. I realize you likely bought this second hand, but they should still support it. Perhaps start there and see where it leads. I'm sure they can get you up and running in no time.

  13. Just installed it. Why the car doesn't come this way from the factory is a mystery. I can't imagine anyone would prefer rowing but what do I know. Again, great if not mandatory mod. Should be standard.

Agreed, it's such a significant improvement, you wonder why the standard shifter is and has been such junk all these years.

We stock the B&M for those who prefer to have a solid as a rock shifter and not spend the dough on the Porsche unit, million mile warranty, etc. I've had both, and like both.

    Enjoy the ride!

  14. Mentioned this on another board, but if we sold it to anyone, and anyone has an issue with the B&M unit (as rare as this might be) all they need to do is contact us.

We are their largest east coast distributor, and have leverage to lean on them if needed.

Hope all goes well. Thus far this has been a phenomenal product (and I know the post was not slanted against the product - which is great - just the service side). I've posted this to our National Acct Rep as well.

    Thanks.

  15. Thanks. I will contact him.

Hey guys, did anyone ever nail down the paint codes or if Eric at bumper plugs was able to help?

The baby poop color of some of the plastic is called Volcano Grey, and it's not a paint code within the Porsche system. We have done some other pieces to help a few folks out with their car not matching, but it's usually the other way around - we paint the Volcano out to body color or alumalook.

A local touch up guy might be able to fix the problem if it's small, otherwise email me for some other options that might be more costly, but would be stunning on the car and eliminate all of the poop plastic. :)
