  1. I installed a Dension ipod adapter in my 2005 CarreraS. I leave my ipod plugged in, in the trunk all the time. It allows control of the ipod from the PCM. If you do a search, I am sure there are some posts on it. John

John, many thanks for your response. Wich Dension model you installed?

We can help you with the Dension....email me or visit us at BumperPlugs.com

    eric@bumperplugs.com

    Thanks!

  2. I have a 997 S and would like to eliminate the ashtray and create a storage bin here. Does anyone know if there is an ashtray delete kit for the 997?

These guys : http://www.bumperplugs.com/BPindex.html advertise a non-smoker package, but don't tell you what it is. Check them out.

    dadbeh

We DO tell you what it is! :) It replaced the ashtray on the rear console of any 996 or 986.

And it is for 996/986 ONLY. Nothing made for 997/987 variants (yet).....

    Thanks for asking though. Sorry.

  3. The Dension will work just fine IF it is programmed correctly.

There are multiple ways you can configure it through the menu system (designed that way). If you have the time and patience to pull together the correct manuals, you will find the programming steps necessary to go from track numbers to text display.

When WE ship customers the GW500 units, WE include a detailed installation, user and programming guide to help with this. Some other vendors fail to provide this level of detail and also fail to support the product.

If you bought from us, feel free to email me anytime with your questions.

    Thanks.

  4. Drive the car around a little (get it warm) and pull over with the door open and pump the clutch a few times; is there still a noise? My car does that when it is cold, but the noise goes away with a little driving. I had the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, and lever replaced 9,000 miles ago. About 250 miles ago I had the whole actuation system replaced and flushed (master/ slave) because of other issues (probably just needed a bleed). The noise is slightly less, but still there-- it is the release lever and pressure plate. I wouldn't worry about it, I noticed it and replaced everything in that area (for other reasons) but the sound never changed. If Porsche wants to pay for it, I would have them attempt to fix it, if not I wouldn't think about it.

There is a chance: pressure plate is cracked.

Just did a 250 mile run today with my son. Up and down some nice mtn roads, great twisties, and some great food in between. :D

Could hear it at a stop light after the first 100 miles or so, and plenty of other stops along the way back. I do not believe hot/cold affects it at all. But for now, I'm driving it as is.

    Thanks!

  5. Eric,

My 99/996 manual had similar problems, there is a TSB that covers it. I thought that they had fixed the problem for the 2004 models but it would be worth double checking with your dealer.

They had 4 attempts to fix my car but finally had to remove the gearbox and replace the throw out mechanism. No problems since then and that was 8 years ago.

Thanks....TSB no longer applies to '04, they changed some things. Still hoping it will go away same way it arrived.....out of the blue. ;)

  6. OK, posted this to Loren, got some great advice (thank you).

Would appreciate any opinions on those who've been down this road.

2004 C4S Cab, 16.5k miles, dealer maintained since day one, no tranny issues, etc. Engine was replaced in late May (Porsche's tab, thank you), and at that time, the top tech who does all the svc on my car did the job. He had the tranny out, so we looked at the clutch just in case, and in his opinion, it looked like new.

All lube points were taken care of during the engine swap and the car runs like a champ (though I do have to go through break in again).

A few weeks prior, I did hear a slight noise when I was almost ready to fire the engine up and was pushing in the clutch, but I did not give it a second guess.

So a few days after this is all done (engine died while driving, no idea what it was, but engine was replaced with new), I notice as I push the clutch in before I start up in the garage, I can hear that spring noise. So I stop, and release the clutch, and can hear it on the up travel too. I figure it's related to the pedal and I'll deal with it later.

Clutch travel is normal, engages where it always has, no trouble with tranny/gears/etc. Engine sounds great (PSE), so while driving, you don't hear it.

I swing by the dealer for a review, and the tech can hear it quite well, and it seems to be stronger from the rear.

I get out while I had a tech lube the pedal points, and he presses in then lets out, and I too can hear it from the rear wheel well quite easily. Lube to the pedal points does not change the noise at all.

So, there are some opinions that this is common, no problem other than noise, drive on.

There are others, dealer included, who say I need to replace the pressure plate, though all the internals were fine upon inspection back in May.

And others are suggesting slave cylinder (lubed), other points along the way (all lubed during engine swap), etc.

So I'm stumped. I don't want to risk anything (and don't think I will should I opt to leave it alone), but I also feel like something is amiss, and should be rectified. But most folks agree that a pressure plate should not be shot at 16k miles, or that it may not be the root cause. Is there a cable we've missed, or a lube point we should hit?

Any other suggestions? And I'm no mechanic, so this may be something I'd do on my own if simple, or I may ask the dealer to do it. But I'd really appreciate any help from someone who may have experienced this same problem.

    Thanks!

  7. HELP! I have a 997 with Nav/PCM. I need to know how to remove the faceplate. I can remove the whole assembly unit from the dash easily but I cannot seem to figure out how to remove the cosmetic faceplate once the assembly has been removed. I know that Porsche repairs the nav/PCM units should they break so I know there has to be away to get them apart. This is the piece that you can have painted to match. Anyone?

Take off the side leather panels first, then it should be pretty clear.

We paint them every week. :)

  8. Recently one of my wheel crests on my 2002 996 came off. I was shocked to find out the cost is $215 for 4 replacements but this is including the wheel insert, not just the crest. I did find a web site in the UK that sold just the crest, but I was hoping to find it in the U.S. Hoping someone has found a more cost effective way to solve this :-)

    Thanks.

We can order them for you, one at a time.

  9. Hi Karl

Did you leave the CD changer in the fibre loop?

    Shap

Shap, we are the primary US distributor for Dension for the Porsche, and can answer most of your questions.

The CDC is taken out of the loop and is not supported by the Dension, however there are some threads on Rennlist regarding a few hackers who have managed to make it work. Feel free to email me with any questions: eric@bumperplugs.com

If you go to our site at BumperPlugs.com click the Order page and see the item description, there is a link to details and screen shots.

    Thanks.

  10. Hi,

I am doing a bit of interior detailing on my 996 40th Anniversary edition and I am wondering what product to use on the dashboard as I am not sure whether the dashboard is leather or vinyl/plastic? I believe the 996 40th Anniversary edition was equipped with "full leather" interior but does mean the entire dashboard is leather or just the instrument cluster cover which I can see is leather due to the stiching?

Do you see any stitching around the hump over the instrument pod? If so, likely leather. HOWEVER, Porsche cautions on using leather conditioners on the dash, as that leather is treated much differently than seat or door panels. The leather is dried and stretched so that it can take the extreme temp variations under the glass. Too much conditioner, and it may loosen. You should simply wipe it down with a damp microfiber (not while it's hot from the sun), and leave it at that. A tiny bit of leather cleaner if needed, or even conditioner, should do the trick, but don't go hog wild.

I've rarely used leather conditioner on the dash. Only the seats and occasionally the doors. And then only once every 6 months or so.

  11. A friend and I both have Ocean Blue Boxsters (which is a dark blue in case you didn't know). He has the clear 3rd brake light. I have the smoked. I have to say that I think the smoked looks much better. For some reason you don't notice it as much when you're standing behind the car but when I drive behind him, the clear brake light really sticks out. There's something about the way it reflects sunlight. It is too bright and detracts from the beauty of the car.

I haven't seen the same problem with tail lights, just the 3rd brake light.

We have both in stock...feel free to email me for more details and pics.

  12. I've read a lot of posts about the Dension Ice>LinkPlus, mostly on pre-MOST bus cars. Does this interface work with the MOST fiber and a CDR23 radio? If I understand the posts correctly, it should because it connects and acts like a CD changer - so you can not use a CD changer and an iPod with the Ice>Link Plus interface, right? I know about the Gateway 500 and it may be overkill for me since I do not have or need a CD changer.

    Thanks in advance!

    Scott

We have been coordinating a large group buy on our site. Email me if interested. This will take the place of the cd changer, and if you have PCM, it will show most of the details in your screen, with toggle-capable features. These units are MOST bus only, and will work with all '03 Porsche models and newer. Non PCM units will be available soon too.

  13. I just purchased a new silver ignition switch trim and I haven't a clue how to remove it.

Can someone please help me out?

    Thanks

Hmmm, we include instructions in ALL our painted trim, so I guess you got it somewhere else.

Plastic spatula, pry from one side. If you notice the prongs on the one you have, you'll see exactly where you need to push in a bit as you ease the old one out.

Good luck. See me next time. :P

  14. Does anyone know if there is a way to wire in a iPod into the 997s stereo?

We have a large group buy underway, in place for months. We are a Dension distributor for their newest unit to interface through the MOST bus for Porsches from '03 to present

    Updated information is HERE

    Email me:

    Name

    Model/Year

    Nav?

    CD Changer?

    Bose?

If you would like to get on the list. No obligation, just that we will notify you when the units are ready to ship, and with a 'deal' price we hope based on the large size of the group buy.

    Thanks.

  15. About the painted plug covering the tow hook hole on the 987 Boxster (possibly all are the same). How do you remove the plug safely without damaging the paint?

    Scary: paint+screwdriver+scratch?!

I was hoping for a gentler method?

    Thanks

Try a toothpick wrapped in paper towel. Should tip right out and then you can grab it.

If you need a replacement, we stock 'em.

  16. Know a source for model year 2005 production numbers?

    Short answer:

    2005-2006 Fiscal Year: 102,602

    2004-2005 Fiscal Year: 90,954

Porsche sells more than 88,000 vehiclesTurnover and revenue have increased again in fiscal year 2004/05

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, set new sales and turnover records during the past fiscal year 2004/05 (July 31). Speaking during the run-up to the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, Porsche CEO Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking declared: “Our profit has also risen for the eleventh year in succession – thanks to our consistent growth policy and ongoing efficiency increases. Details of earnings can only be issued after the figures have been approved by the Supervisory Board in November.”

According to provisional figures, Porsche Group turnover rose by 6.8 percent to approximately 6.56 billion Euros (corresponding figure for the previous year: 6.15 billion Euros). 2004/05 is the first fiscal year in which Porsche Group accounts have been prepared in accordance with International Accounting Standards. Compared with the accounting procedures in accordance with the German Commercial Code, this had the effect of reducing turnover during the past fiscal year and, due to retrospective adjustment the preceding fiscal year as well. One of the main reasons for this is that in the case of specific leasing transactions, only earnings from interest and not the entire leasing charges are included in turnover.

Group sales increased by 15 percent to a total of 88,379 vehicles (previous year: 76,827 vehicles). This increase is due primarily to the extremely successful market launch of the new 911 and Boxster model generations. 27,826 cars in the 911 model line were sold, an increase of 17.4 percent compared with the previous year (23,704 cars).

Total sales of the Boxster model line were 18.009 units, an increase of 38.7 percent (previous year: 12,988 cars). Sales of the Cayenne, which has now been on the market for three years, rose again. 41,884 units of this sport utility vehicle were sold, a sales increase of 4.9 percent over the previous year’s figure of 39,913 units. Sales of the high-performance Carrera GT sports car went up strongly, with 660 units sold compared with 222 in the previous year.

Production totaled 90,954 vehicles, and thus went up by 11.6 percent over the previous year (81,531 units). A total of 28,619 units in the 911 model line were built, an increase of 7.4 percent. The corresponding figure for the previous year was 26,650 units. Output of the Boxster model line rose to 20,321 units, compared with 13,462 units the year before (51 percent more). Of this figure, 15,892 cars were built in Finland (previous year: 8,862). A total of 41,299 Cayennes and 715 Carrera GT high-performance sports cars were built at the Leipzig plant.

Despite imponderabilities in the global economic situation, Porsche is confident about the current 2005/06 fiscal year. There is strong demand for all three model lines. From October on, four new all-wheel-drive variants of the 911 Carrera will reach the market, continuing the generation change in the 911 model line. Developed on the basis of the Boxster, the Cayman S, a two-seater mid-engined coupe, will follow in November. With this new model, Porsche not only fills the existing gap between the Boxster S and the 911 Carrera coupe, but will also achieve a lasting degree of expansion of its customer base in the classic sports car segment. In view of the extended breadth and appeal of its product program, the company anticipates renewed growth in the current fiscal year.

Porsche Up Once AgainSales of Sports Premium Cars up Almost Ten Per Cent

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has exceeded its expectations in the 2005/2006 year of business, which ended on July 31. As the company stated on the eve of the Paris Motor Show, Porsche has reached new record levels in revenue, sales, and profits. According to provisional figures, revenue of the Porsche Group was up 10.6 per cent to approximately Euro 7.27 billion (previous year: Euro 6.57 billion). Profits increased overproportionally versus revenue growth. This is attributable to special effects such as the sale of the car roof production company CTS Fahrzeug-Dachsysteme GmbH as well as effects resulting from the company’s share in Volkswagen. Profits continued to increase even without these special factors.

Group sales were up 9.5 per cent to a total of 96,794 cars (previous year: 88,379 units). This growth was driven in particular by Porsche’s new sports cars, the 911 accelerating by 23.6 per cent to 34,386 units; never before have so many 911s been sold in one year of business. With sales of the two most powerful models, the 911 Turbo and 911 GT3, starting in June 2006, the new generation of this model series so rich in tradition has now been introduced almost completely in markets the world over. Starting in November, the new 911 Targa will also be at the dealership.

Up by 55 per cent, the increase in Boxster sales was even more significant. Out of the record figure of 27,906 units, 14,002 of the cars sold were new Cayman models. The market launch of the more powerful Cayman S had started in November 2005, the “basic“ version of the Cayman following just before the end of the last business year in July 2006.Sales of the Cayenne amounting to 34,134 units (previous year: 41,884 units) reached the same high level as the 911 even though the Cayenne was already in its fourth model year and Porsche as a company consistently maintains its policy not to grant any discounts on its SUV. Sales of the Carrera GT ending production as planned in May 2006 amounted to 368 units in the business year now under report (previous year: 660 units).

Total production was 102,602 units, 12.8 per cent more than in the previous year (90,954 units). Production of the 911 in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen amounted to 36,504 cars, an increase over the previous year by 27.6 per cent. The Boxster model series assembled almost entirely in Finland due to great demand for both the 911 and the Boxster and Cayman models, reached an overall production volume of 30,680 units, an increase by 51 per cent. In Leipzig production of the Cayenne model series amounted to 35,128 units (down by 14.9 per cent) as well as 290 units of the Carrera GT (previous year: 715 units). This makes the Carrera GT the most successful high-performance sports car of all times, amounting to a total production figure of 1,282 units.

Despite all economic imponderables, Porsche is confident that in the current 2006/2007 year of business sales will at least achieve the exceptionally high level of the business year now over. This expectation is also attributable to the company’s further enhanced and even more attractive model range, as well as the ongoing penetration of new markets. Particularly in rapidly growing markets such as Russia, China, and the Middle East, Porsche cars are in increasing demand. Porsche expects the next major boost in growth as of 2009, when the four-door Panamera sports coupé is launched.
