  1. So I went with the 03 and bought my first 911 yesterday. 2003 turbo, 4200 miles (now 4900). I promptly drove it 700 miles to get it home. Hell of a ride. Totally different world of fastness. I would say having this car is extremely dangerous, but its so stable at high speed that it actually feels remarkably under control. A lot of similarities, believe it or not, with my 2000 audi a6 (2.7t 6-speed stg3). Not in handling of course but in rev-matching, turbo delay (lag such an ugly word) etc.

So I've had it less than 24 hours, and I'm looking to make a tweak or two. On my short list is a ssk. Reading the groups I get the feeling I want th schnell or the factory kit. I put a uuc kit in my audi, seems like a similar amount of effort and I'm planning on tackling it myself. Any kit recommends or installation warnings?

    Thanks in advance...

B&M makes the shift kit for Porsche....and we stock the B&M as well. Seems to be the standard in this market. Easy to install (about an hour), reduces throw around 30%. It is a bit more notchy than stock, but if you are used to short shift kits, you know that already.

Factory piece is nice, and comes in its own tower so you don't have to break out the old bushings to install. But it comes with a price, about $500 over the standard B&M.

  2. I have a 1999 Boxster. On the temp gauge there is a yellow lights that alarms you if your car is overheating or if it's too cold to run. I first had this light go on because my engine was very cold and i tried driving it. Now months have gone by and even if it's hot out this light still goes on. Any one have any clue as to why this still occurs. If i let the car heat up and run for a little bit, then turn it off and restart it the light will go away. BUT then if i'm on the highway and the temp drops the slightist bit the light will flash again. Any clues?

I'm bringing it to the dealer this mornign so any help would be great before i bring it in

Could be low, but I bet it is the reservoir. Common problem.

  3. Porsche does it the same way we do. Laminated Carbon over existing parts.

We factory-match the grain/texture/color and finish exactly like the factory, putting it right over the existing part. The only difference is our 3-stage clear allows ours to age perfectly, whereas much of the factory carbon turns yellow.

These are 997 parts. The grain it completely different from 996/986 carbon, which we also stock.

  4. I have the "Technical Manuals" but I couldn't find out HOW to disassemble the lower slots(the CD-Storage & the empty slot on my '99 996C2) underneath the dashboard. I looked thru the TM, but it only show me how to disassemble the dashboard, but no reference to the lower slots!

    I am really puzzled....

They simply pull out. If you are referring to the storage units, they may need to be coaxed a bit by pushing the edges of the frame (top/sides) but they will pull straight out. Just don't hit yourself with them when they do!

I have found they often will ease out from one side a bit, then you work the other side, then back, and so forth until you have them out.

    Keep pulling.

  5. In my 2004 C2 997, there is an area for CD storage below the radio. Has anyone taken this out and put in something more useful, like a nav system?

A lot of our customers put the second storage unit in place of the cd holder. You can have a custom plate made for aux stuff like a Sat radio control.

The storage box is about $35 from any dealer. Same as the lower one, different outer shape to fit in the upper cubby.

  6. For the price he charges I would think the frames were included.

When we first set up the system for painting these vents, the charge is fixed based on labor and materials. These are extremely difficult parts to paint. Probably one of the toughest things we have ever faced. Because of the cavity, and our own anal-retentiveness, there are small areas that will tend to create runs or spots after they are done. We end up doing them about six times to get perfection. This involves a ton of prep, then buildup for the layering, then resanding, etc, etc.

We were also mistakenly informed by our Porsche source that it was a plug-and-play deal, and only the exterior component was needed.

Only after the first installation did we uncover the fact that the inner bezel trim and clips/seals are required. We supply them at our cost.

Sorry if there's been any confusion on this, but these things come out so nice, but are a real pain to produce. Add 110 degree heat outside the booth, and no one is very happy these past few weeks!

    :(

  7. Mmm...Denison site says "Porsche available end June" ?

The product is now officially in release. We are not their spokesperson, just a distributor. But we have a large standing order that should be to us within a couple of weeks, three at most.

To get on the list for the group buy, just email me your year/model, whether you have nav/bose/cd changer, and your name. I will add you to the list and when we have the actual product in hand, the order site will list it.

First models are for '03 to present, MOST bus, NAV only cars. Next model in about 30 days for non nav.

  8. Is the Upper Center Console (Horseshoe) available only arctic silver, or can it be ordered in the Alu Look for a MY2003? I have Alu Look in most of my interior, and I was told by the dealer that the Upper Center Console (Horseshoe) can only be ordered in arctic silver, if you like a silver look to your Upper Center Console (Horseshoe).

I just received an arctic silver Upper Center Console (Horseshoe) but I am not sure I will install it b/c it's color is a bit different from the Alu Look. BTW, the exterior color of my car is arctic silver.

    Anybody know?

    Thanks,

    Mike

We produce both finishes. Until the '02-ish time frame, alumalook from Porsche WAS Arctic Silver. Then they lightened the tone and beefed up the metallic flake content. We produce exact matched alumalook in nearly all the trim.

Where did the Arctic one come from?

What else in the car is Alumalook?

If you look at the alum/leather shifter/brake, that is true alumalook. Take a look at our Gallery page for a full blown aluma interior we did recently, and you will see why it is different from Arctic.

  9. One of our customers is battling with his 997 rear center console. The silver trim at the base of the shifter won't come off the old console that he is removing.

This is the long trim that sits below the shifter leather and rests on top of the console at the front.

Anyone have some suggestions? I thought it pulled off from the clips, but apparently his is adhered more strongly.

    Thanks.

  11. My rear TT bumper is just about ready for installation and I was going to go the euro no bumperette route but have decided that the extra protection that they offer is important.

Does anyone know if the old style bumperettes (pre '02) are the same on the turbo and non turbo cars?

    Thanks,

    Stan

    Not the same.

Turbo and C4S bumperettes are different from pre '02 Carreras, and different from Boxsters as well.

And of course, if you simply want body colored Turbo bumperettes.....go here:

http://www.BumperPlugs.com and order them. Swap them with you.

  12. Hi all,

It seems that the US Boxsters have those ugly bumper blocks (next to the license plate) on the back which the European cars don't have... I removed one of them to see what was behind, and it looks like they've welded a block of metal on, and cut a hole in the bumper, to screw that thing to it... I can only assume these blocks exist because of the higher chance of rear-end accidents in the US.

My questions is, are these blocks there for legal reasons (i.e. it's illiegal to remove them), or could I remove it (and replace the bumper because of the big holes they cut out)?

Alternatively I might paint them to the body colour, but I'd prefer to get rid of them...

    Thanks!

    Shash

We offer them painted all day long (core swap). Easy solution.

or.....remove them, weld off the brackets, replace the bumper cover with a euro bumper cover, fit, prep and paint. $245 vs $900+. Your call.

  13. Has anyone purchased carbon fiber interior bits from MAcarbon? It looks pretty good on their website. Does anyone have another source they would recommend? Also, how much headache :cursing: is involved installing this stuff?

    Thanks for any help!

    Glenn

Depends on what you need. We manufacture some of the finest factory-matched carbon. MA does carry a few things that I believe are good quality as well. Our stuff is more custom oriented, things Porsche does not offer or carry.

Take a look at our order and gallery pages for more info.

    Thanks.

  14. I had this problem on my old '99 (since sold). The window separated about 2" from the canvas at one spot.

When replacing the window, I was told that half the time the zipper breaks. So they tried, and yep, zipper broke. Required new canvas. $1000 labor, and about $3000 parts later, new top and window looked fine.

Pissed me off...car was 3 months out of warranty and PAG told me to shove it.

  15. This is odd. We get requests all the time, and have produced this piece quite a bit. But now we have an installation problem.

This piece goes where the 3rd brake light would go on the 996, and it should snap right into place. From all the installation info I have, the light comes out and the piece snaps into position where the light was.

However, one of our customers has his in, and every so often one end keeps popping out!

First I thought maybe he ought to put the lens back in, and tape the cover on it, but that is not how it is supposed to install.

    Anyone?

    Thanks.

  16. This happened to my radio too. I have the upgraded Bose system and all I got was the visual display, but no audio. I brought it in under warranty and they first changed the headunit (last year). It acted up again this year and they recently "upgraded the amp" and/or the amp's software.

    So far so good.

Thanks. Yes, I'm on head unit #2 also, same upgraded Bose system. Just had some info passed along from someone in the know (vendor related), and it sounds like an amp replacement. I'm going to dig a bit to see if they can upgrade the system using the CDrom as well.

    Thanks!

  17. Last week I cranked up the '04 C4S Cab and the radio came on properly but without sound. Well, except for a high pitched whistle. Display was fine. Just no true audio. All memory settings and stations were fine.

Turned off the car, restarted, radio was fine again.

Happened again last night. Turning off just the radio won't solve it. But turning off the car, then back on a minute later, seemed to.

I'm sure it's a head unit replacement issue, just wondered if anyone has had this happen.

    Thanks.

  18. 997 steering wheel in996? will that be possible?

    GAG.

Pardon my own humble opinion, but why in the world would you want to put the world's ugliest Porsche steering wheel in the already stunning interior of the 996?

I mean, have you looked at a VW Bug or Mini yet? That wheel with the center round hub looks so ridiculous (again, my opinion) I still don't understand why they did that.

3-spoke thicker all leather 996 wheel was a beauty.
