  1. Thats what has got me concerned. I dont have a lift (yet) but I can get the vehicle high enough in the air to perfrom the job. I also have all of the lowering lifts for the transmission. On the 996, it didnt appear that difficult, but I am not sure if the top bolts are accessible. I am going to dig into it tomorrow evening to see if I can get to them. Thanks! I need to get a lift......
  2. I have seen conflicting information regarding replacing the clutch on the 997. I have seen some posts where the engine and gearbox need to be lowered at the same time, others where you can just lower the gearbox. Before I get elbows deep, I want to make sure that I can reach all of the bolts for the 997. Has anyone seen a link for a DIY or how to? If not I will take pictures and post how to perform this, but before I start I want to make sure that it is not mission impossible? Thanks ! Car is a 997 carrera 3.8 manual transmission (obviously) LOL 34,000 miles Its blue, not sure if that adds to the difficulty!
  3. Hopefully you have solved the issue by now, if you haven't I recommend replacing the crankshaft position sensor. Porsche dealers and mechanics will tell you that this part rarely dies, however it has happened to me. The part reads the flywheel and picks up a magnetic frequency and adjusts timing from the CPS. If it faults, it will limit fuel and retard the timing on the bank that it faulted. There are 4 of these sensors, typically the two in the back of the motor (closest to the front of the car) are the culprit. They are less protected and receive more heat. When I changed mine on the 996 I noticed how brittle the wires and the plastic were. Additionally the sensor was almost fused to the head. I hope this helps.
  4. Hello, I have a 2005 997 Carrera 2, I checked the fuse (good). Ran a circuit tester which shows no power to cigarette lighter and accessory port in center console box. Any ideas??? Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the reply Loren, I have a Coupe, and I installed a GT3 aero fixed wing with no harness. I appreciate the help!!!
  6. I need some assitance in Jumping the PINS on my 03 996 in order to stop the rear spolier light. I read the TSB which states jump pin 2 to Pin 5. However it aslo reads "new" harness. I havent changed the harness and I am looking for a way to stop the warning light without purchasing a new harness. Any help is greatly appreciated! I did search the forum and cannot find any direction specifically to this issue. To clarify, its the warning light that I need to disable, thanks!
  7. (2003 996 Coupe) So hear is a good one, I have been working on cars for all of my life. When I get on the car hard either from a stop or while in second gear, the windshield wiper will come on, only as a single pass. If I corner left hard it does the same thing. It must be a loose connector or something along that line. Has anyone had the same problem, if so could someone point me in the right direction of where to start searching? I appreciate any help, :o
  8. Everyone thanks for the great write up, heres a pointer for starting the nut. I noticed several people were having problems with starting the 10MM bolt the connects the module to the sterring column. Here is something that has worked in the past for me: Items needed: 1. cheap magnetic pick up tool. 2. Long reach slotted screwdriver. Purchase a cheap magnetice pkup tool at any autoparts store. The magnetic part of the tool should be no larger than the diameter of the bolt. Take your 10mmsocket and wrench and rest it on top of the bolt, which will keep it from turning, take the nut and position it on the magnet diagonally so when anged under the dash the nut lines up flush with the bolt. Slowly turn the nut clockwise until the nut is threaded. I would keep threading the nut on the bolt until the magnetic pkup tool becomes useless. Take your slotted screw driver and place it through the gap between the ignition swith and the dash. (you can see the blue bolt and nut through this opening). Put slight force on the nut to prevent slipping and tighten the bolt with your socket wrench. This should do it! B)
  9. Interesting, I wiggled the key and the small round lights came on, however the low beams did not come on. My ignition switch is loose and most liekly needs replaced. I appreciate the help!
  10. I have a 03 996 coupe. Just purchased the vehicle. I cannot get the headlights to turn on. When the light switch is turned on (all the way right and knob pulled all the way) the small indicator bulb turns on (passenger side) but no headlights. When I pull back to utilize the high beam flash, both high beams work. I checked Row A, fuse 9,10 (15A) both not blown. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
