  1. OEM air filters are great. They may last 15-30K miles, but their peak performance is when new and with my other cars, that newness dies shortly after install (just like copper spark plugs). The BMC and KN filters are great since you can clean and reuse them (which should be better for the environment). I have a K&N filter...been 4 years. No issue with the MAF. I know a lot of friends rush the cleaning process, however, I let mine dry over night and when I oil, I let it absorb for some time before it gets reinstalled. I also rub a towel against the filter to pick up any excess oil.
  2. Was the header repaired on or off the car? I am still suspecting that it is the header.
  3. Box goes in vertically and then you twist/turn it down to the horizontal position.
  4. I'm going to repost my question here since I got not responses in the TT forum. I bought my MY01 996TT last September without a PCM1 Users Guide (it's not available for download either). Does anyone know if you can permanently turn off the navigation voice guidance? When I set the destination, the voice prompts start. I can go into the menu and turn the volume off, but when I stop the car, turn off the engine, and start it up again, it defaults back to about 1/3 volume. Hopefully, there is a way for me to save my volume preference on the nav system. If not, can someone confirm this is a normal function of the nav system? Thanks.
  5. No responses? Can someone at least confirm this is how the nav was built by design so I don't have to wonder if there's a solution to this?
  6. This is awesome. Thank you so much jpflip. At least this narrows my problem to ONLY the knock sensor/wires itself. I'll have to carve out some time this week and get this fixed. My mechanic wanted $1000 to get this work completed. If I am not mistaken, it will cost no more than $300 in parts assuming both wires and sensor are bad. Thanks again.

  8. Thanks Loren. However, my code is related to the knock sensor (P0327). Can you confirm if this code is ONLY triggered by a faulty sensor/wires or can it be triggered by other factors? Also, it seems like I can probably check the knock sensor the same way. Where's the DME located and do the knock sensor wires route directly back to the DME? I know there is a box of some sort under the front driver seat? Thanks again.
  9. Hi All, My car (MY2001 996TT) consistently throws a P0327 Knock Sensor code for Bank 1. This code puts the car in limp mode (pulls a lot of timing in the upper RPM ranges). I'm running a mixture of 100 and 91 in California. I've done some research and found 2 other cases where the wires were chewed up by critters/rodents. Before I start to tear the car down to reach the knock sensor, does anyone know if other factors can cause this code to be triggered? I'm hoping that it is just a wire issue since this car only saw 2K miles in the last 2-3 years. However, I would hate to tear it down to find that a bad MAF, fuel pump, etc could be causing excessive knock which triggers the code. Thanks in advance. Larry
  10. I have an 01 with 60K miles and I only see .6 bar. I believe those that are seeing .9 bar have the X50 package. So I think you are ahead of the game if you are seeing a constant .7 bar.
  11. I am a new p-car owner and I've been lurking on this forum for a while and I have to say I am amazed by the knowledge Loren has. Thanks for contributing and helping us out. Those go at the bottom of your air cleaner hosing to hold it in place.
