  1. Thanks to the excellent info available in this thread I just replaced my Moll w/a 48-3 Everstart from WalMart for $64.96+tax/fee. They had several in Inverness, FL. The 8+ year old OE Moll has lived on a "Battery Tender" the 4 years I've owned this 2.7L/986/Tip, and is in fact still strong, comes up to full charge and load tests fine, ..but as it only comes out for day trips I prefer to skip the "fails 150 miles from home experience". The tip re:"settings keeper" much appreciated. $5.99 "NOCO" BTE296 at AutoZone w/9v incl. A 10min. swap. Fwiw, tho I reached around back for the freshest 48, dated 01/08, it took the "Tender" several hours to achieve a 'green' light. I finds pays to slow charge them before loading them the first time. Thanks again Tool Pants. Harley.
  2. Moose, I prefer the "Battery Tender".. and have three I rotate among my three bikes and two cars, which I have done for long enough to know it saves battery $$$, but that is not the main concern. When out of service this way, whether you disconnect it or remove it you want to charge it with a charger before you put it in service, NOT the vehicles alternator...which is designed only to issue a maintenance or "surface" charge. In many years of selling these parts it is my belief that this type of use causes premature failure of the charging system components more often than any other cause.
  3. ...err.. the seat track retension bolt socket is E12, and I had the seat in and out within an hour of receipt of the correct tool. The T20TR is for the MAF connector and was purchased mostly as a hedge, and $2 has always been one of my favorite prices! Incidentally, the MAF/E throttle function failed at 13297miles ('00 2.7L/tip) which afforded me the opportunity to limp through rush hour Orlando traffic at 15mph for the 5 mile trip to the dealer. Porsche of Orlando treated me like I was their best lifelong customer, (this was our first contact), had me in a prepaid rental for the 80 mile trip home, and fixed the car overnight, (986-605-115-01 ttl.hsng.), all under warranty. :clapping: fwiw, when the MAF failed the vehicle would start and idle, but had no response to throttle input..the kicker? No MIL indicator! The CPU/ECM set P-1502 in fault memory, but did not share that info w/the MIL. Oh well, I didn't need no stinkin' light to tell me the car no go!
  4. An item of interest to many here, eBay item #7956429645, a complete 15 volume set of 986 shop manuals for $600. which, considering Suncoast wants $1500. seems like a deal... however.. this same guy had another (?) set listed about 8-10 weeks ago. Considering he has 63 negatives in the last 12 months??? I sent the winner of the last auction an e-mail through eBay, though it went unanswered, so whether he got his??? If I lived in Canada, and could see them in my hands I'd be interested...through eBay?... not this time, not this seller.
  5. ...here's a shot of the Bend-Pak...
  6. ...arrived today, no backorder, in perfect shape USPS Priority Package. I did opt for the 8 piece set of 3/8" drive E6-E16 sockets, and the T-20 Tamper Resistant bit...total $23.93. Now if I could just locate a WKD 483-521 CD I'll be in great shape. The Bend-Pak LR60 has proved to be the ultimate accessory for my level of DIY, that and, of course, the excellent advice available on this site. Thanks again Tool Pants... :clapping:
  7. ..fwiw. Checked here for size of tool to remove 986 seat track (E12), saw post re:maf security (tamper-proof) screws (T20), and with the proliferation of these fasteners... a reasonable source I discovered is www.bobstools.net . Click Lisle-Automotive link. The T20, $1.99; E12 3/8"drive, $2.99. No minimum's, S&H to $99.99 is $6.95! Sets are available at similar savings. Thanks again Tool Pants, it's a wonderful thing you do for us DIY'rs...
  8. Thanks, didn't think it could be that easy. Still dry here tho, so.."What, Me Worry?"
  9. Howdy Tool Pants, A couple or three months back I posted a question re: incidence of failure of RMS in TIP equipped cars. You responded, reasoning that the loads imposed by the two systems might differ, and indicated you would ask around. If you have since responded, I apoligize for having missed it. I have been off riding one or another of the three M/C's in the shed, different brands all. My question was posted under the user "HarleyDuc", but was unable to log in this time that way...hence "blakbox", fourple black if you count both tops! Ha! Now that the weather here has become bearable again it's back to 986 projects, first of which is those rusty lug bolts...ugh! Thanks Tool Pants, I appreciate your insight. '00 986 2.7L/Tip. 'duc
  10. I'd vote for an A/C line insulator. May not be off the 986, but what else gets parked there? These can prevent moisture from dripping where it is not welcome.
